Oooooooooh my, do I love Magic! Liek, srsly. U don't even know.

So I see people have been posting their favorite strategies and cards, so here's some that I like to use:

http://gatherer.wiza...iverseid=279711

Meet Stuffy Doll. Stuffy Doll is indestructible. Stuffy Doll will take any damage you do to him and throw it back at you. In short, Stuffy Doll will fuck ur day up. Now, Stuffy Doll only has a couple of weaknesses.

1: There are unblockable cards that can bypass Stuffy Doll, such as 'lightning bolt'.

2: Stuffy Doll does not have flying, and thus cannot block other flying creatures.

Now, all we have to do is make sure that all of the damage the opponent throws at you is directed at Stuffy, and make it hard as hell to get rid of him. There are several ways to do this.

First, let's get rid of our flying problem. The easiest way to do this is to either stuff your deck with flying creatures (which is also good from an offensive perspective) or stuff it with:

http://gatherer.wiza...iverseid=262867

Crushing Vines. Take out their fliers before they can even attack you. Sounds great, right? Well there's one problem. Crushing Vines doesn't kill Lightning Bolts. Although it is a good card to have, there's an even better way to go about things.

http://gatherer.wiza...spx?name=Pariah

Meet Pariah. Pariah is an Enchantment card. Pariah goes VERY well with Stuffy Doll. If you equip Pariah to Stuffy Doll, all of the things that can get past Stuffy still deal damage to Stuffy (because they attack you directly), and thus your opponent. It is a truly diabolical way of playing the game.

Other cards that do well with these two are any which can:

give temporary invulnerability (Stuffy Doll is already invincible, but Pariah isn't, so if there's a 'destroy enchantment' card in your opponent's deck, be prepared)

shield you from death (a good example would be Platinum Angel. It's always good to have a backup plan in case Stuffy fails)

resurrect cards from your graveyard (if Stuffy Doll somehow dies by, idk, infest (one of the only things that can kill an indestructible creature) then it's always a good thing to be able to get him back)

Strong flying creatures (defense doesn't mean much if you can't kill the other guy. Flying creatures are a good, quick way to do that)

Cards that give you life (Nothing is more annoying than seeing your opponent rack up life left and right and not being able to do anything about it. Whoever you're facing will be absolutely livid, and even if he does manage to kill Stuffy, he'll have a lot of work to do trying to finish you off.)

Oh, and poison counters. Poison counters are always nice.

And that, my friends, is how to unbelievably troll at Magic the gathering.

Driku12, we're done here.

(ps: how do you attach pics to a post? I put in the URL, the pics showed up, but when I tried to submit it, it said that I wasn't allowed to use the image extension in this community. Any ideas what that means?)

You can deal 13 damage to all creatures if you have two Stuffy Dolls.

http://gatherer.wizards.com/pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=222206

this is a good way to kill your opponent.

Or give it revenge of the hunted and make all there creatures block it and deal damage to it and if they are less then 6/6 they die. and just give it Deadly Allure and it killes them for sure.

http://gatherer.wizards.com/pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=275712 ( revenge of the hunted)

http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=262690 ( Deadly Allure)

Yes, both black-white and mono white work well for a life gain deck. Another good color to have is green, it has a lot of weapons, creatures, ect. that give you life when they die (a good example would be Sylvok Lifestaff). Although if you want something really good for infinite life gaining, a black-white would be great. Y'see, since black has a lot of cards that return things from your graveyard to your hand, you could just keep playing a good life gain card over and over again until you've accumulated some serious life. If you do go with the black-white, I recommend 'diabolic tutor', 'disentomb', and 'child of night'. As for white cards, angels and any type of blocking creature are good. Soooo... yeah :) Some good combos are black white, green-white, and maybe even black-white-green if you're feeling adventurous.

Thanks a lot. I didn’t even consider green. I don’t have any Diabolic Tutors, but I do have a Diabolic Revelation, which is kind of expensive but I could grab any card I’d need for some combos.

Life gain isn't a very good deck. It's kinda nice if you have a few cards that do stuff and ALSO gain a little life, since aggro is big in standard right now (and that's probably unlikely to change anytime soon), but a deck dedicated to life gain won't get you very far unless you're gaining insane amounts of life or have a reliable infinite life gain combo, of which there really aren't any in standard right now. Black generally has more creature recursion than spell recursion; that's mainly reserved for blue. Green has recursion of all types of cards, but generally has restrictions, such as putting them in top of your library as opposed to the hand, which is card disadvantage :/

Also, there aren't many spells that gain good amounts of life. However, that one spell that gains you 7 for GW (Heroes Reunion, I think?) in standard right now, which is pretty nice and will stave off aggro for a few turns. Maybe throw it in a UWG control deck? I dunno, I don't play much standard.

The best life gain spell we have in standard right now is Timely Reinforcements, because it also gives you dudes and is low costed. But IIRC, it's in m12 and not m13, so we're losing it in a few weeks.

So. I hear you guys like magic? I've been involved with magic for quite some time and recently got back into it cus I met some friends that are into magic. I have 3 decks currently; the first is red/blue based on storm cards. The second is black/red based on sending your own creatures to exile/the graveyard and return them to your hand later. The third is green/blue and is built around graft.

@@Evilshy, I’ll have to check out timely reinforcements, I don’t have it. Yeah, the meta here is aggro, and they play extremely fast as you’d imagine an aggro deck would. I think If I could build a solid life gain that would be a nice counter to the aggro. I like the idea of playing some black in it though because I could side board in some spot removal if needed as well.

I've always found a control/burn deck is a good counter to fast aggro. All you usually have to do is survive the first five or so turns and kill most of what they play and when they're forced to top deck creatures etc you will usually have the edge as you will likely be drawing more cards than them and you will still have ways to kill what they send at you. Obviously it doesn't always work, but compared with just life gain it will usually come out on top.

I just got back from going to a pre-release today. We got a bunch of the Return to Ravnica cards a week early! :D

They were all really great, actually. Cards of all colors do great with each other in this new one. Even the most inexperienced deck builder can have at least a mildly good outcome just because all of the cards compliment each other so well. btw, white-blue's new 'detain' ability is awesome. (I used blue-red-black myself, but the people who had blue-white did really good. I lost against them twice. Then there was one guy who had blue-white-green, and when he used detain and populate together, he just destroyed people. So yeah, the new cards are nice.)

Anyway, back to the point. There's a new Pegasus card I got: http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=concordia%20pegasus

Thought you'd all like to see it, lol XD

I did that too and I went as Izzet but I had better Rakdos cards to use. I only had 4 Izzet creatures to use so I made a good Rakdos deck.

lol, that's exactly what I did. I had Izzet, but there weren't very many good monsters (Don't get me wrong, there were good creatures, but I couldn't have my deck rely on 4 really good cards) so I used some great Rakdos cards that I got from the provided booster packs and that gave it the extra push that I needed >:3

It's great, really. I'm working on a white-red-green right now.

I played Azorius today at a prerelease. I did fairly well, but it is a shame the rare I got in the guild booster was Azor's Elocutors. Oh well, at least I got 2 white/blue shocklands and Isperia in the other boosters.

I ended up playing at the pre-release, and just got raped. I played Rakdos, honestly just because I wanted Carnival Hellsteed :P Not even because it’s a great card, but because I just think it is the coolest looking card I’ve seen in Magic hahaha. So far I’m a huge fan of the detain mechanic.

At midnight, I picked golgari, went jund and went 1-3-1 (would've won that draw if overtime was 6 turns instead of 5 :(). In 2HG, some in our group of friends couldn't make it, so teams got a bit screwed, and I was with another player who isn't very good at limited. Went 0-3-1, but enough people dropped that we got 2 packs each anyway.

Here comes the good part.

At midnight, I pulled a Vraska, which I traded later for an Abrupt Decay, Sublime Archangel, Olivia Voldaren, Havengul Lich, and Deadeye Navigator. I gave my friend another Sublime Archangel and Thragtusk, and in return he paid for my 2HG fee. In 2HG, I pulled 2 Dreadbores and a Temple Garden. I traded Temple Garden for my Sublime Archangel back, as well as promo Lingering Souls. I traded one Dreadbore for dinner and still have the other. So I think I made money off this.

Oh, and I have an Izzet box coming in the mail from a friend who owns a card shop back home :)

My favorite card is Goblin Guide. If you don't have fast removal, he's going to hurt you pretty badly. Most of the times when he's in opening hand, I can have him deal 6 damage before he dies. 6 damage for one red mana is pretty good in my books.

Tomorrow at my local store we have our first proper standard event event since the new set came out (We did a draft on the release day). So anyway, what do you all think of my decklist I'l be using:

Creatures:

4 x Delver of Secrets

4 x Snapcaster Mage

4 x Goblin Electromancer

4 x Guttersnipe

Spells:

4 x Pillar of Flame

4 x Mizzium Mortars

4 x Izzet Charm

4 x Talrand's Invocation

2 x Bonfire of the Damned

2 x Searing Spear

2 x Brimstone Volley

1 x Faithless Looting

Land:

3 x Steam Vents

3 x Sulfur Falls

2 x Izzet Guildgate

6 x Island

6 x Mountain

1 x Desolate Lighthouse

Alright then, I'm still not sure what to put in the sideboard, but it'll most likely include more Brimstone Volleys and Searing Spears, some Smelts, Dissipates and possibly some Cyclonic Rifts. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Worked a bit on a few decks, that suck massively though. I would like to improve on the burn deck though, because I never had that much fun working with a deck like that. Also need to work on the Green and Black decks, as I've got no clue what to do with them. Green feels too mid-ranged in which for a novice like me, I'm not sure how to use, and I've always used Black cards as support to clear out monsters...

...am I doing it that right?

Because i'm not familiar with your budget, i think guildgate is a poor choice though, you'll find more often than not it will bite you too much. From the testing i've done with RUG control, i personaly found the deck to have a major issue with anything with 5+ toughness, brimstone can solve that nicely, i'd suggest maybe one more, also, cyclonic rift is really good atm because it can deal with alot of pesky creatures. The bane of your deck, and every other delver deck though is Thragtusk. Unfortunately Delver has lost alot of it's key cards to make it work. While you don't look specicaly like a delver deck, you do look like a deck that was tried at my last fnm, for the record it didn't do too well. The concept of the deck is fine, but really only testing should tell how it really plays out. Let us know how you did :)

I had a similar build minus the invocations and Brimstone Volleys. Instead I used Niv Mizzet Dracogenius, Hypersonic Dragon, and Thundermaw Hellkite. I also used Cavern of Souls so they can't be countered XD

The guildgates are only there until I get another Sulfur Falls and Steam Vents (Which should be friday).

As for the event itself, it was ok. I came 2nd overall (4 rounds, 3 wins, 1 loss). The first game was a complete massacre. The guy was playing an Azorious themed deck which was mana flooded both times. It was simply a case of killing what few creatures he did play and attack with delvers and drake tokens. The second game was against a white/red human deck, which was a close one. The first game was only won because of a timely Bonfire (It killed all his creatures and then he didn't play anything bigger than a 1/1 token for the rest of the game). The second game against that deck was a bit more in my favour early on. It went: Turn 1 delver, turn 2 Goblin Electromancer, turn 3 Talrands Invocation. Basically after this point he didn't draw enough removal to deal with the drakes and they killed him.

The third round was against a Jund aggro deck (Not fun to play against). Both games were close, but it was Mizzium Mortars that were the key to winning. The last round was against Red/Black Zombies which destroyed me. Oh well, at least I wasn't smashed throughout the event.
