Actually there are sometimes where I will play a game (or do any other activity) where I am just horrid at it. Sometimes struggling to reach average makes for a decent change of pace.

For the most part I try to play for fun.But in order to have fun I need to beat people, and in order to beat people I need skill so I'd say it's about even on both grounds (:

Most of the times, I just do the stupid things I want and laugh like an idiot afterwards... But I take my time to improve as well. Also, I find a lot of fun in competitive gameplay, like Clan Wars. It depends a lot on the people I'm playing with though, if they're nice or not.

I play for fun. Not to brag but I'm pretty good at most multiplayer games I play so it is quite fun to have skill.

In all seriousness, I play for fun. What does it matter how well I do? As long as I'm enjoying it, it doesn't matter.

My logic says that game is fun, when its not fun, why play? I do like a challange and I think its fun so sometimes I will aim for skill but in the end its for fun not skill.

For the fun of it ofcourse. I suck at some video games, but are good in others. But Frankly idc if i'm sucking or not :P .

As long as i'm having fun its all that matters. Some might say that when u sucking at a game that means ur not having fun. Frankly if u don't care then u acn still enjoy it. Even if ur doing terrible u can still have fun out of it. Think of it this way. Its a challenge. And to try and get better at it is the fun of it. If ur not having fun with the game why are u playing it? If ur just playing just so u can be "MLG pro" or whatever then whats the point? Videogames were made to entertain, some to be challenging, but all in all to be fun. Something to do with freinds or in ur spare time. Just cuz u have skill in a game doesn't mean shit. "OH LOOK I DID A 360 NO-SCOPE QUAD TROLOLOLO" What do u want? a cookie? (cuz i do :( )

As long as ur having fun and laughing with friends an having a good time, thats all that matters. :)

Both.

I don't find sucking at a video game very fun. At the same time I don't need to be incredible at a game to find it fun. It's always great to become better at a game as long as it's not at the cost of enjoying the game.

I play to have fun, but I also play to win. There's not much point to playing a competitive game unless you are going to play your best. You can't half-ass a team-based game and say "I just play for fun", because other people on your team probably don't care about you having fun; they want to win.

To me, playing to win and playing to have fun are the same thing. I simply have more fun when I'm winning, and I think that holds true for most people.

I play mostly FPS games. If you aren't winning then your losing and losing sucks. nothing is worse than playing a game where you better than everyone else. I game for both fun and for skill, usually together. I find competitive player vs player matches to be fun because they require skill. If it was casual then it wouldn't be fun.

Some people said I suck a bit.

Does it really matter if I am good or not?

Can't everyone just enjoy video games no matter what?

Playing very bad players is like playing a brick wall. Where is the fun?

More likely though, the person that called you bad is probably just mad that he is getting dominated by some other better player so to make himself feel better, he insults those that are worse than himself.

It really depends on how I'm taking the game at the moment. There are times when I just get uber Competitive and usually I get really angry.

Then other times I'm just trying to laugh my A:D off and I goof of.

With friends I'm usually more of a just for fun guy. But if it gets to a Me Vs. Public I can get competitive.

Also in SC4 I'll become a Screeming nut job against against the Computers. They cheat...

For me it's both. There is no point in becoming more skilled at a game if you are not having fun playing it. It defeats the purpose of playing a video game in the first place. However, a perfect mix of the two can create some very memorable experiences I think.

If you have to sacrifice a small part of your humanity to have some 'fun' in a game, that's no game you're playing there :/

Most of the time I only play something if that game can actually give me a reason to smile. Be it some achievement or lots of mooks to kill, any reason to say that I'm satisfied with all of those time spent playing it.

If I had to wanders around doing nothing but gathering pieces just to snatch your lost wallet in a dungeon, or when to achieve something I had to resort to dirty tricks else I will have to 'mediate' my way out of the boring routines, I'll delete that game ASAP

I do both! Having fun is a great way to increase your own skill level, really. You get more used to the controls, understand the gameplay a lot better, and in turn that helps out with whatever you're faced with. Sometimes the best way to get good is by approaching the game with a relaxed attitude and just playing the game for the sake of having fun instead of wanting to always get better at it.

Both. When I say I game for skill, I mostly mean that I enjoy challenging myself to get better, and especially earn achievements, particularly the most difficult ones, but I mostly game for fun; there's nothing quite like enjoying great storylines and characters in a great single-player experience, or having a blast with a great online multiplayer experience! :D

Forgot to mention, I get REALLY competitive in games I'm good at (like Halo).

I usually play for fun but once Halo Reach 3 Ball hits the playlist, someone's dying. I swear I've never lost a game of 3 Ball ever, and I don't plan on it.

I also really like challenge, so campaigns and RPGs on highest difficulty are really fun to me. Some people consider that skill, I don't. I think it's fun!

I voted for skill in the poll, but my answer is really a mix. I find trying to get better and better to be a lot of fun, and looking back at how big of a noob I used to be always gives me a good laugh. If I'm playing a single player game that has some kind of scoring system, I will restart if I'm not doing as good as I would like to be, but I'm not freaking out about it, and I'm certainly no butthurt raging gamer.

Purely to have fun. In fact, I don't believe challenge is even required for a game to be fun. A lot of people say "The game would have been better if it was harder" but I will never ever say that in my entire life.

On the other hand, if a game has a set difficulty and it happens to be pretty tough (Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, for example) I'll enjoy it regardless. I just don't think a game needs to be challenging or have to test your skill to be enjoyable at all. Not for me anyway.

Of course, that doesn't mean I don't have some skill, which comes from 15+ years of gaming, but I don't play games to increase my skill. I will never play games competitively, especially fighting games. I play them, sure enough, but I don't enjoy having to redo the same thing over and over again so why would I enjoy losing to the same person over and over again because they are elite tourney players and I'm just a guy who normally plays single player anyway? It's just not my thing to be the best at everything I do.

I play platformers purely as a test of my skills. I like to speed run, and I always feel this inexplicable urge to do 100% runs.

In RPGs I always play to collect everything without ever dying if possible. I always play at the hardest available difficulty, but despite all that, I do actually take the time to try to appreciate the characters and the stories.

In fighter games and party games I play to win, I myself feel that there's no fun in defeating an opponent who was not giving it their all, that having been said, if there's a clear gap in skill between me and my opponent I will tone it down so the game doesn't become dull and one-sided.

I enjoy playing co-op games the most, because that way I can get serious with the game without deducting from anyone else's enjoyment. I also refuse to yell at someone for playing "bad" like some other, more competitive players would do.

Anything else I can just play to enjoy the game though, because if I find myself playing any other genre of game, that will most likely be around friends, and everything should be played "just for fun" when you're around friends.

When I game, I game because I think it's fun. I don't do any challanges or xbox achievements etc. I play what I think is funny and I don't really take it too seriously if I fail over and over. But then.. um.. I ragequit quite easy xD

lolnope now I only play to win
