I don't have masses of time for video games anymore, so I usually just play for fun. Still, I've never been one of those people who obsessively play online games like WoW or COD.

Empire Total War is probably the only game I've played for stupidly long hours.

I prefer playing games alone... mostly because I play for FUN.

When I play anything multiplayer... all anyone cares about is skill skill skill. I used to have a friend who would always rub it in my face about just how great he was at video games...

But I didn't care because his skills amounted to nothing in the real world, and he'd get so worked up that no one else around his could have any fun.

I can get competitive(like with fighting games) but I don't make it a goal to train to be better than everyone else. I know some people are into that, but I just like to not get stressed out when I'm taking a break from everything.

I can see how playing for skill can become playing for fun. It does feel good to be at the top. But I'm too lazy to really get there.

For fun. I am only concerned with upping my skill on playing the bassoon and as an musician altogether. When I play video games I'm playing them for fun and relaxation. So a game that is frustrating in any way is not for me.

It really depends what I'm playing, and if I get caught up in the heat of the moment if you will. I play TF2 simply because it's a fun game. CS: GO is fun too, don't get me wrong, but just the competitive nature of the game can get me a little caught up.

I play games for the fun of it. That's why no one will ever catch me playing xbox or playstation. I'm sure my xbox is getting dusty somewhere in my room.

I prefer simple fun games like Mario Kart or Banjo Kazooie. :P

Halo or Call Of Duty is not for me, too many angry people playing those games. I prefer a good story mode over a mindless point and shoot any day.

I've also been drifting away from video games. I'm starting to realize how they hold most people back.

I just play for the fun of the game.

I don't have a lot of friends who have XBOX 360 and I'm not that good with commentating with people. So I just play single player games that are just easy to win.

It depends, really. I am in a competitive clan, thus forcing me to train my skill, discipline and teamwork. I find public servers most useful for 2/3 of those things. Skill wise, in Mount and Blade Warband, I can say I'm decent, and slowly improving in both shot and melee... And use of mortars.

But there are also those times in which I just relax and play for fun. It's quite fun to jump on Teamspeak with clan mates and run around the battlefield playing music, carrying flags and shooting people with muskets.

It all depends on the game in my case.

For RPG's and platformers I of course play for fun, I love this genre of games cause theirs no competition and no stress (I'm talking about single player by the way)

Starcraft, I'm fiercely competitive, I hate losing, and I get crazy excited if I'm winning.

I used to be a competitive tf2 player but not anymore

These are the only games I can think of right now

Well if my videos are any indication, I play for fun. Even when I play PayDay, TF2, CoD or any other "competitive" multiplayer game my friends can tell you I tend to just screw around in matches. I play video games to take a breather from life so I'm not going to get all serious face when I play a game. Please don't get me wrong, if you like to play games seriously and you enjoy playing that way that's cool. :)

What's the point of perfecting a game, if eventually most of my skill will become obsolete? Nah, the only games I've perfected were those that were naturally fun to play.

Some people said I suck a bit.

Does it really matter if I am good or not?

Yes. You are required to be a master of every single game you play or you will forever be a worthless person in the eyes of the world.

Obviously kidding. Nothing wrong with playing for fun, though I kinda thing the two go hand in hand. The better you get at something, the more you tend to enjoy it.

I dont think thats true in all cases..... I play League of Legends (alot) and the better I got at the game the less I enjoyed it.... Having to start playing serious and the increased amount of hate and complaining.... Ugh.... But yeah stopped playing competitively for this reason.... Got sick of it... so now I only play casual and enjoying myself alot more now then I was at higher ranking...

My point of view is extremely bias. I really don't play multiplayer games. To the point where I only have Xbox Live to utilize the arcade. Even in Diablo 3, I have public games turned off. I like single player games. That's the whole reason I don't see the appeal of games like LoL, or even the COD series.

The only exceptions to this are old 16 bit beat 'em ups like Streets of Rage, or Halo 1 multiplayer.

Yeah thats a fair enough point if you dont play multiplayer games in a competitive enviroment..... With me in LoL it got to that point where I was too serious about it and I HAD to be winning.... and it just wasnt as fun anymore.... Got sooooo sick of all the hate and rage...... So yeah went back to casual unranked matches.... ;)

But yeah single player games are alot more fun the better you get at them... I definately agree with you there ^_^

I play games just for fun. It is getting boring playing the same game over and over. My younger brother is my opposite (not only in this thing) - he play those multiplayer games over and over... I rarely see him playing games with a storyline. There is only one game I play for skill with my brothers and cousin and it is Starcraft brood war. (I'm not sure if I should count Crash team recing, because I play it very offten and I'm improving my skills a lot, but I really play it just for fun... I rarely play multiplayer)

Pretty much in between. I mostly play games for skill when it comes to earning trophies. I simply play for fun whenever I'm playing the PS2 or the Dreamcast, so even with my skilled experience, I mostly just have fun, even if it means completing the game on either consoles. :P

Both. Mostly for fun. I prefer playing Smash Bros. in 4-player free-for-alls with items over competitive rules but I still like playing competitively too.

One of my favourite games is Ninja Gaiden (NES) which I specifically played because I knew it to be considered one of the hardest games ever made. I beat it, so I certainly increased skill playing it but it was also tons of fun.

Well, to be honest, whats the point in playing a game if you arnt having fun playing it? Surely thats the main reason we play video games?
