Sleep paralysis is a phenomenon in which people who are either falling asleep or awakening from sleep temporarily experience a sense of inability to move, similar to that which occurs when an arm or leg goes "to sleep", but not associated with numbness. More formally, it is a transition state between wakefulness and rest characterized by complete muscle atonia (muscle weakness). (From Wikipedia).

Basically, it's like your brain is awake, but not the rest of your body. You can move your eyes and breathe, but not the rest of your body. I had it once and it was REALLY scary. Sometimes you even start to see things. Have you ever had it?

Multiple times actually, I only have them when I decide to take naps during the day, I think it's happened twice in school, but it's hard to keep track of how many times it's happened at home.

It's actually a Sleeping Disorder, it happens to me a lot because I'm always sleeping either too early or too late.

Is it kinda like the falling out of bed feel?

Tbh, I never remember having it. I should watch what I say though, karma is a real troll sometimes.

Not really falling out of bed, but basically you wake up and can't move anything besides your eyes. And your mind sometimes is still in a dream/nightmare state, so you might start hearing/seeing things that aren't there. Very scary.

Wow, I would hate to have it that much.

I've had something like that before. On another one of your threads I told you about the nightmare I had about the no air thing. I felt something like that when I woke up. I couldn't move, I could only breath.

Ye

I got used to it though, I just go back to sleep and eventually I wake up normally xD

It happened during my finals in school, the teacher let us read or sleep after we were done with the test, I fell asleep and I couldn't move xD

Once. I woke up from a nightmare, and I had become fully conscious again, but I realized mah whole body couldn't move. Hell, even mah eyelids were almost completely paralyed :P. It only lasted for 2 or 3 seconds. After that, I was finally able to move

Consider yourself lucky, I don't remember how long I couldn't move, but it felt very long, like at least 15 minutes.

I've never had it and I honestly hope I never do. I read up on it once and if I remember right it said it could last from a couple seconds to a couple hours. I read that it's more likely to happen if you sleep on your back or front though, and I sleep on my side. I don't know if the info I read is correct though.

Yea, I woke up (well, mentally) on my back. It was pretty scary. If you don't want to be freaked out in the night, hope you don't get sleep paralysis lol.

Oh yes...a few times at least in my life. I'll tell ya, when it's the first thing you realize when you come back into the real world, it's panic from then on. I literally thought I was gonna die right there sometimes.

In other words, it's pretty scary. :c

Is there an "i don't know" option cuz i don't remember. I don' think i have but i might of without knowing. There were multiple times when i would "wake up" a couple hours before i actually do wake up. When that happens, i don't move my body or open my eyes, but i can hear everything around me. When that happens idk if its just i can't move or if i don't want to move. Cuz i don' remember if i try to move. Its like a dream, can't remember. Its just weird. Its like i'm out of my subconcious but i'm not awake. Like sleeping but u can hear everything. Is that the same thing? Maybe it is but i don't want to move and just fall back asleep lol.

Meh, humans are weird.

It happens to me every once in a while when I'm waking up. (If I had to guess, I'd say maybe 3 or four times a year.) It was scary as hell the first few times it happened, but now it's just a small few seconds of freaking out and then remembering it's only temporary. For me, it usually lasts no longer then maybe 15 or 20 seconds, but once it was for at least a good five minutes.

I think I was once on the verge of sleep paralysis. I was in a car, eyes closed and listening to some music while resting my head on a pillow, just trying to relax without actually sleeping. Then I got this weird feeling and I kinda freaked out, which made the feeling go away. Then I realized that it might have been sleep paralysis. I really want to feel how sleep paralysis feels like, so I felt kinda bad for making the feeling go away..

I had it few times, but it always lasts less than 60 seconds. First one was especially scary. It was like "ok, let's get up... OH MY GOD MY HAND DOESN'T MOVE!". Now i laugh when I think about this, but I was very scared then.

I've had it twice. The first time I hallucinated hearing two people in my room talking about how they were going to hurt me, and the second time half of my brain seemed to think it was on a speeding train full of ghosts in addition to being in my bed.

It's like a world of nightmarish sounds and images violating your mind and you are helpless and just have to take it.

When I had it I had no clue what was happening.

Was I sick? Did I take the wrong medicine? Was I poisoned by something I ate? Is Cthulhu trying to contact me?

Freaking scary.

I've not only experienced it, but I've found you can actually make your body go into sleep paralysis at will. (It's actually one method to achieve lucid dreaming)

Basically, you have to lie absolutely still. The only muscles moving being your breathing, and the occasional eye twitch if you can't help it. If you ignore the annoying itches and discomforts, (which are signals your body makes to make sure the brain is asleep) you trick your body into going into the state of sleep paralysis. Be careful though, because sleep paralysis also triggers a psychedelic state in your brain, and you'll very likely hallucinate both visually and audibly, and feel a severe distortion in time. (Hence why waking up into sleep paralysis feels so long and terrifying)

Yes, I've had it twice that i can remember, once i missed an exam because of it, the other time i had to take the day off work. It is likely that I've had it more than twice, i can just remember those two times because of what i missed because of it. Luckily the test was only a Religious Education one, and i didn't really need to do it, and i made up my time by working Sunday for my job.

It happens to me every other week. Usually those moments are filled with ghastly images and noises, followed by a strangling sensation. One thing I have noticed is how serene I feel once I've woken to new day.
