Is bronyism just a fad?

I dont think it will end. Like may already said Star wars fans and Star trek fans are everywhere. But the reason there are so many Star wars fans could be due to the fact George lucas has made bank off of it. I think that the only way to keep it alive indefinitely is to just KEEP BUYING MERCH. Toys, shirts, posters, blind bags, all that stuff gives a portion to Hasbro. The more money Hasbro makes off the show the longer it will survive. So in short go out and buy all the pony toys you can. Who cares if it is show accurte or not. The more we spend the longer it will run. I would rather have Pinkies party train and more FIm over no toys and no FIM wouldnt you?

See, I'm Greed. I want everything you can think of. Money and women, power and SEX. I want everything this world's selling! and immortality's topping the list!

I think that it will last for a long time, like people have said, startrek fans and Starwars fans remain, and Pokemon has lasted the test of time. It may die down a little but it will not vanish completely.

I've met a few people that were just "bronies" because they wanted to look original, so they might consider it a fad. But for the most part, this fandom can't just be a fad. The true bronies will stay bronies for a long while after the show stops airing.

It's hard to tell now though, the fandom's only two years old...

Like many have said, the bronies have become far too large and well known to be just a fad. Star Trek, Star Wars, their fandoms have lasted this far and are still going and growing. FiM is still growing at an incredible rate. I doubt it will die just because the show ends. Fandoms usually last a long time after the show ends. I think we'll last a VERY long time after the show ends, maybe to next couple generations of MLP.

Everything's just a fad. If the fad goes on until after I die that's just fantastic. I won't forget how much this show has done if I live to be 200. And there are people just as fanatic as me in the fandom who will keep making stuff that commemorates it.

I think those who really love the show will never let it die. And who's to say generation 5 won't be good? Ponies have gone in a new direction, and changing that would cause Hasbro/The Hub to lose a lot of customers/viewers.

G3 and G3.5 were poorly animated; they were very choppy and cheap. The ponies had no personalities. All the content was basically cookie-cutter party junk. And the voice work? not the best. There wasn't much love or thought put into it. But I think now that the love for ponies has been revived with G4, it will be revolutionary. I hope that each generation will carry on this way, encouraging others to love what they love, love one another, and to be comfortable with themselves.

This is certainly not a fad. Fads don't have conventions. Fads don't last this long. Sure there will come a time when the show ends, we will probably lose some people. But there will be many people who will never forget. I know I am one of those people. I will always remember. I will always be a Brony.

I think it’s amazing we are even having this conversation, the fact that this fandom has grown so large that we can seriously entertain the idea that bronyism is just a fad, like I said before though, I don’t think it is a fad at all, and I’m sure there are people out there who are into FiM for all the wrong reasons, but I think the fact is that overwhelmingly people who watch the show are legitimate fans.

If a fad keeps going for over two years, then yes, maybe we are a fad. But who knows until the show has actually ended. (hopefully not in a long time)

Am I the only one who thinks Friendship is Magic is going to be around for a long time? With it being so popular right now, I can see it going on for a long time. For heavens sake the Simpsons has been around from since before I was born, and it is still going on without as large a fanbase as ponies. As long as there are still people who want to watch the show, they will still be making episodes.

I don't think it is just a fad. Ponies might be in the media for the long haul.

Yes and no, maybe the current trend might die out a little as people move on in life, and all good things like FIM will have to end eventually

However My Little Pony has been popular with children and adults alike for along time, a lot longer than bronys and Friendship Is Magic. Sereously, it’s not just a franchise people forgot about. Evreyone fan or not has most likely heard about MLP.

So in a way the Trekkie equvilant of My Little Pony already excists.

For example

When the show ends, it'll be very sad. But, I will still continue watching the episodes, and being the brony I am. When it ends, I'm guessing most people will still be bronies. That show has changed so many lives, and why would they give up on it? Star Wars movies have stopped, and they still honor it today. But, if there are true bronies, they will continue to watch the show. I know I will. The only problem is, all the cute pony toys will be gone! D: But thankfully we still have Ebay in hand. That'll be good. But until then, I will cherish the show and watch it. If it wasn't for MLP, I would've never met you guys!

You made a good point in your post, but I disagree on your comment 'cute pony toys will be gone'

Keep in mind the toy line My Little Pony made by Hasbro isn't a new brand. It's been reinvented sevral times but it's been selling and popular since the 1980s, maybe it will all end completley after g4 but it's unlikley since it's one of there well know brands

With all the fans and stuff and fan created content i'm sure bronys will be around for atleast a while after the show.

I mean eventuely i would assume it would end, but everything does I guess eventuely.

I'm sure its not just gonna die when the show stops airing tho. I mean they have plenty of other things that have fans still long after the shows or whatever aired.

Me myself? I'm not ever just gonna hate the show randomly afterwards and I may even hang around and look at other MLP related stuff for a good while, but I mean eventuely I may not have time or stop being interested one.

Who knows how long I'll stay interested. What I do know is I'll be sad when MLP does end. But I hope that doesn't happen anytime soon!

Look at it like this, We as a collective group have participated in MANY charities, saved many lives from donations including 30,000 for one Tara's friends, made hasbro into alot more than what is was with our many purchases of ponies, gotten the support of military men whom are now bronies, made countless pieces of fan art which will exist FOREVER because once something is on the internet it will never leave, and to top it all off we are international and over 2 million strong!

Eventually there will be so many of us that being a brony will be just like a star trek fan, noticed but nobody thinks twice about it.

The mind of the host will desperately try to create memories where none exist. Simple right?

In a sense, yes, it kind of is. In another, it's really not. I think it depends upon ones' own perspective of the fandom, and their own depth into it.

I do believe the massive amount of fans, and therefore, fan-created arts, will gradually fade into obscurity in time. This is natural for anything popular; what goes up, must come down. In this way, yes, it is a fad just like any other.

But on the other hand, we simply don't know what will happen with the franchise in the next few years; it is still fairly young, and could possibly have a lot more potential in it. And maybe not. In the same way that there are some who claim to be "bronies forever", the answer to the question of what will happen to the fandom is the same: you just can't say one way or another for sure. (And I'm not trying to put y'all down; I'm just saying, you have no idea what you'll be into in a few years. Perhaps bronyism will define you for life, and perhaps you'll grow disinterested in a few years and find something else.)

I believe the whole ordeal summed up, is this: The brony fandom is something that is new, and unexplored. There's no way of knowing where it will go, where it will end, because nothing like it has ever happened before (to my knowledge). We, the bronies, shall do what we can to keep this fandom going strong, but in the end, there isn't a whole lot that is in our control anyway.

Only time will tell the fate of the bronies.

I personally believe it is just a fad. As FiM comes to a close, and time starts to pass since the series ended, the Brony community will slowly fade out of existence. Now if Hasbro, or another network starts up a new generation quickly, and is just as good/better than G4; there's a good chance the fandom will live on.
