How Many Season Will MLP: FiM Last?

I don't know for sure how much longer the show will last, but I hope it lasts for a while longer. I'd be happy with 5 or 6 seasons in the end. I just pray this show ends on a high point, before it jumps the shark.

Nobody can know for absolute certain, as shows are renewed on a season-by-season basis depending on how popular the show is.

Well... I'm gonna go ahead and guess it will be... 5 or 6 seasons and I'm basing this on how long have these kinds of shows gone on. Shows like Teen Titans, Transformers ( G1 ) and The Powerpuff Girls.

Personally, though, I'd like MLP: FiM to have 8 seasons. It will all depend on what kinds of ideas they'll come up with.

No one knows, it's up the the creators to know when it's time to finish the series. I'm strongly guessing that season 6 will be the last season, as much as I love this generation of MLP, they just can't keep going forever. If they make several seasons and episodes then the show might start to lose it's touch for me. Exact same thing happened to Spongebob, I loved the show that it was basically the only show I watched until it got boring and less funny until I eventually stopped watching.

I don't want that to happen to MLP, I want it to end while it's still an amazing show that we all love and enjoy watching, instead of slowly fading out of the fandom because of poor episodes.

I'm hoping for a LOT. I really would be cool with it going and going endlessly, as long as it didn't become complete garbage or anything. I think it'll at least last 5, at most 10. But that's just speculation (and a pretty vague answer if I do say so myself).

Thing is, it's Hasbro we're talking about, and they enjoy making money. So who knows what could happen if the fandom keeps going, which it probably will.... I mean, I'll keep waving my pony flag probably the rest of my life(or at very least, sometime in the distant future, put my pony flag in a safe spot with easy access)... so there's that, haha.

Also, that's another thing too, even if the show ends there'll be so much fan made content coming out after the fact that it'll live on pretty strongly for a while even after the show has run it's course.

I'm not too worried.

Here's an interesting thought. Seasons 1-3 has just enough episodes for syndication. It can actually be sold as a 'block' in TV terms.

If they change up the focus enough, and do Seasons 4-6 with the same number of episodes. It too could be sold as a 'block'. Meghan has already said that they're being ambitious with Season 4. Maybe they are changing the focus enough to re-freshen it.

At that point, they could continue doing this forever if they wanted. Incremental changes rather than reboots. Gen 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, and so on instead of needing to go all the way to G5.

I can see Hasbro buying into that idea as there's less retooling between generations, yet still shaking up the franchise enough each increment to keep the toy sales going.

@Brony4lyf99, nobody knows how many seasons G4 MLP will last at this time. Because of this, all there was to do in your thread was to speculate over how many we think there will be, and many were already beginning to do that. We already had a thread for discussing that, so yours has been merged with the older one. Just letting you know :)

I've never actually looked into this figure, but I once saw somebody mention that Faust originated shows have a tendency to last 6 seasons, so 6 seasons is what I expect MLP to last to, if not more.

I like the term "Faust-originated show." It's like she's the Kubrick (deservedly, of course) of animated television for children and so much so that we can just make terms for her and no one contests it.

But I really cannot see the show lasting beyond 6-6.5 seasons without a heavy re-tool in either format or narrative tone. I am sure the show and its merchandise would also not be that profitable for that long. I mean, keep in mind, that's the lifespan of children younger than 7. That's a long time for a show to be on air with the same dynamic and format; I doubt interest around the show will remain as high as it is now for longer than 6 seasons.

Which is fine by me. Better than it getting stale.

Considering the Brony fandom I could imagine Hasbro ending up selling their rights on MLP to a different company once they finished MLP G4, simply because they know about the demographics of the show and might want to put some more "mature" content into it. I don't mean content like 18+ or 16+ or anything but maybe it will include things that make you think a bit more about the storyline and character development. Maybe a show about the mane 6 being a little older and the CMC being at the age of the current mane 6 or whatever. There are many possibilities.

7-8 I think. It would be really nice when they can make more, and i really wish that the show never ends, but they will stop making episodes one day..so i hope there will be like 7-8 seasons.

I hate to go off-topic but you know things are getting real when Button's Mom jumps into the topic.

Hasbro accidentally sold a chunk of the rights to G1 off once, so they're unlikely to do that again. It's the reason why Friendship is Magic doesn't have Surprise and Firefly in it, as those were the names Lauren Faust wanted to use. Hasbro sold the rights to those pony names when they sold off the molds for the G1 toys when they were retooling for G2. They had misunderstood how copyright and trademark laws worked internationally, and didn't realize what exactly they were selling off until it was too late.

Given My Little Pony has been *the* foundation product of Hasbro's Girl Toys division since the 80's, they're not likely to knowingly give those rights away again. :)

If G4 would finish, I hope G5 would retain the G4 feel to it, as I loved My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic since three years ago. For now, I'm just gonna wait for Season 4 to pop up in November. :)

Now there's an idea. They should totally connect two generations together. Of course, G5 would have different mane cast, but there would also be some familiar characters. A different setting perhaps, but the place is still the same Equestria we know. And the time G5 would be set on is... well somewhere between 100-500 years after the events of G4.

Plus... I don't think no one else has done something like this. Connecting two generations together, that is.

As I have said since s2, 6seasons and a film :D!

And no eqg does not count, I think that they might take eqg to a season but that doesn't count as fim. But they will run out of ideas eventually and after s6 it would just best stale :)

I was listening to an audio recording of "The Neverending Story," and there was a quote towards the beginning that made me think about the end of "My Little Pony."  I don't know how many seasons there will be, but I am pretty sure that I know how I am going to feel when it is over.

"If you have never wept bitter tears because a wonderful story has come to an end and you must take your leave of the characters with whom you have shared so many adventures, whom you have loved and admired, for whom you have hoped and feared, and without whose company life seems empty and meaningless."

  • 2 months later...

I mean we have not heard ANY news of a season 5 yet.  We knew 100% that Season 4 was going to happen by the first week of November last year.  The financials do not seem to have that information this time around...

Could this be the end of FiM?

Last season was by far shortest. And I doubt it, as far as I know Hasbro have had big time selling ponies so there is no reason to cancel the show so far. Still CEOs and business man do whatever they want, so whe should be prepared for sad news.
