MLP Trading Cards

As much I like that video, the fact they mixed up The Dark Magician Girl's stats with Dark Magicians is bugging the hell out of me now that I noticed it.

its a parody, and she is mimicing dark magician girl, thats how i think of it

besides, ponies playing yugioh, is there any hope for the cards to be like this?

Well, she has the purple costume and DMs staff, not the DMGs.

And God I hope so, I can't even find any crossover fics based on the old show.

All right! Great news from me! :)

So I got my Derpy Tin from Hot Topic and my 30-pack box from Toywiz today. Series 1 is complete with the exception of promo Rainbow Dash. I will get her one of these days...

I was very pleased with what I got for series 2. I have all of the Friendship Moment cards and the Items from Equestria. I have most of the character common cards, but enough doubles to trade.

I got 2 gold cards - King Sombra box topper and Princess Celestia in a pack. I got 8 of the 9 stickers, and 6 of the 9 standees, a 7th standee being a duplicate. I got many foil cards, and several more to go.

I should have just bought a box for series 1. I do not need to buy anymore packs. I can trade some of my common doubles for the ones I am missing and still have plenty leftover. I can fill in my missing foils on eBay and Toywiz. I wasted so much time, energy, and money with series 1. I know how to play the game this time. :) It would be awesome if I spent less than $100 on series 2. Barring promos, of course. I already paid $75 for Big Apple Ponycon Pinkie Pie. :P

So stoked! I got my Derpy tin FINALLY last night. I still have a few more holes to fill for series 1 and just started series 2. :) I know a few cards are on their way from trading with people across the US...thanks to tradecardsonline.com  :)

I use that site too! :)

I haven't in a while, though. But I will be using it some for series 2. But I am only missing 4 common cards for series 2, so I won't be trading too much.

I am thinking about getting another box, though. I figure that unless I get all of my foils (gold included) for like 2 bucks each, I will be spending more on getting just the foils than just by getting another box... I dunno, I will have to look at Toywiz prices and see. :)

I ordered two boxes and found it to be just right. You get two gold cards per box. i got each common and all foils except 3 puzzle pieces!

My Derpy tin should be getting here soon. I ordered it with issue 6 of the comic, and Hot Topic is breaking the street date again. It will be a little while before I get a series 2 box though, Cardfight Vanguard has priority over it.

I go to the comic book store down the street to get my MLP comics. They always give you a free insert to protect your comic. Also, I rather support my local comic book store than corporate hot topic.

Yeah but this thread is about the trading cards, not the comics. I am all for supporting your local businesses though. It's just that I don't think that local comic shops have as much merch as Hot Topic. Particularly the trading cards.

That narrows down the decision quite nicely img-1406680-1-happy.png Guess I'll just search for tins and packs in stores. Will definitely place an online order soon. Thanks for clearing that up.

Series 1 is available in very limited quantities in stores. If you want series 1 at all, get a couple of boxes online and get the rest eventually. Maybe only one box will do.

Sounds solid. Seems like the boxes contain an exclusive foil card along with a random assortment of other cards. If the price difference isn't all that great, I'd be glad to limit my outings to Target, Walmart, and the rest. That said, I'm going to learn my way around some of the sites you've all mentioned (Enter-play and tradecardsonline).

Thanks for all tips. Starting to understand which purchases make the most sense. Will likely return with more questions after reading up on them, but hope to join the main conversation soon.

I was thinking about getting the Derpy tin myself. What all does it come with? Did you think it was worth buying? I'd prefer the collector's tin with the Twilight card, but I could always get both. smile.png

Also, does anyone know what the difference is between the tins and the Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie boxes? What's the better deal? Sorry for all the noob questions.

So they finally released the Trading cards in the UK, and as soon as I found out I went to Toys 'R' Us to pick up a bunch, I have bought 12 packs now, I think. I have 6 shiny cards! and a bunch of regulars plus I have a few double which I plan of giving to my Friend.

Each of these boxes has a bunch of common cards, exclusive stickers, and exclusive foil cards. I have all of the tins and boxes so far, because I want to collect all of the cards. I use them now to store my duplicates and my top loaders and plastic sleeves that I receive when trading or buying and send when I am trading or selling.

The boxes are worth it.

They contain an exclusive gold box-topper foil, and 30 packs of trading cards. You are guaranteed at least one more gold trading card in one of those packs, and for series 1 you will get foils and standees. The standees will get annoying, however, because they made them appear in 1:2 packs and there are only 9 standees as well as 28 foils plus gold foils. Yeah, they mostly fixed that problem in series 2 where they made foils in every 1:2 packs, and standees and stickers appearing in 1:4 packs, making the chances of getting tons of duplicates less likely.

Anyways, as I was saying, getting a box is worth it. If you wanted to sell the cards, the box would pay for itself in the gold foils alone, and add to it by selling the common and foil cards and the standees. The box is $60.00 on Toywiz or Enterplay. Each pack costs $2.00 anyways, and you get an extra gold foil on top of it.

The best places to buy online are enterplaystore.com and Toywiz.com. I recommend that you only buy individual packs in stores because it is not worth paying for shipping for a pack. Toywiz also sells individual cards, which is great when you only have a couple left to get and you can't even find them on eBay (and if you have a coupon to lower the overall price, which if you subscribe to toywiz's emails, there will be lots of chances for coupons). I have gotten most of my individual cards from eBay. Shipping costs less most of the time.

@@RockinRarity, Thanks for all the awesome advice. Will definitely get one of the 30-pack boxes for my birthday. The $10 Collector's Decks and tins seem like steals, too.

Once I finish moving, I'll order the binder, extra card pages, and probably a collector's tin (for the Twilight foil).

Might start with season 2 cards since they have a better distribution, but I'm sure I'll eventually want season one as well...

I'll post my haul within a month if things go well.

I didn't know MLP had trading cards! Reminds me of when I first start collecting Pokemon cards when I was younger! img-1379355-5-xtWXQl1.png

I recommend getting series 1 first. They are not printing them anymore and if you wait too long, you won't be able to get the boxes. Series 2 will be around for a while longer

That's a good point. I've only seen the Pinkie Pie and DJ Pon-3 collector's decks around though. Glanced a few more tins, but not sure if I'm finding them all.
