Why does Rainbow Dash sleep in trees?

Several times, we've seen Dash sleeping in trees. She napped in a tree at the start of Best Pet episode, she slept in a tree in the third episode, after having fallen down on Twilight and Applejack after hearing about Twilight's ticket to the Gala, and there might be other instances. It may come down to something as simple as 'just feels like it', but I like to be analytical about these things.

 

Here's my thoughts. Every time we've seen Dash napping in a tree, she's had a pillow, and sometimes a blanket as well. Meanwhile, as far as I know, she's never had a pillow or blanket with her when she's sleeping on a cloud. However, she does have pillows and blankets on her bed, in her cloud home. So my theory is this:

 

The choice between tree VS cloud for Dash, has to do with if she wants a pillow or blanket or not, for if the weather is a bit colder than usual, or she wants to take a pretty long nap. When she's just being lazy and taking short naps, she goes in clouds, where pillows and blankets would fall through the clouds, ergo render them unusable. She's not always near her cloud house, so she might occasionally just decide to nap in a tree wherever she is.

 

I had another theory about how the clouds would drift off to outside Ponyville while she's asleep, and thusly that might be a factor in why she would choose trees a lot of the time, but then I remembered clouds don't move by themselves in Ponyville xP

I think it's because she just wants a place to crash... A tree is the safest place she could find so she selects the tree... So there's my theory.

She's a daredevil flyer, almost always outdoors, I'm not surprised that she sleeps in trees. If you spent most of your life outside, where would you sleep?

The clouds :3 like she does the rest of the time. My question is why does she even bother with trees when she sleeps on clouds the rest of the time. She has to have some appeal she finds in them, some reason.

Lol, well clouds seem to almost serve as pillows and blankets with their plush texture and they almost adjust to your body like a TempurPedic bed or w/e it's called.

I'm convinced her cloud home is a separate type of cloud material than the weather clouds she takes naps on. Like in my first post, they probably support furniture, cause they're made for homes, not spilling out rain or decorating the sky.

If you were to spend a lot of time napping in the clouds, you'd probably want to go to a more solid place eventually.

I think it's probably because of the security a tree provides. If she's napping on a cloud someone could either come along and move her, or take out the rest of her cloud with a loop-de-hoop.

 

Another thing to consider is obviously the huge comfort difference between these two things. Clouds are puffy and can mould to your shape, whilst trees are just trees.

Because I have a memory foam mattress, my body gets used to the extreme comfort, and after a while this comfort becomes incredibly UNcomfortable, so to remedy this, I lay down on the couch for a while. It's far less comfy, but I feel a lot better afterwards.

In that case I submit the following fact: Rainbow Dash is a prankster. I can almost guarantee that she's probably pranked plenty of pegasi (alliteration FTW) who would like to get revenge by, say, pushing the cloud she's napping on over the Everfree forest where the clouds DO move on their own. When was the last time you tried to move a tree?

Maybe trees just give better support for sleeping on, like the difference between a firm and a soft pillow/mattress, it is probably more likely that it is just laziness that chooses her sleeping locations.

Maybe she sleeps in trees so the sun does not get in her eyes. If she sleeps on a cloud then the sun is shining on her when she is trying to sleep. In a tree she has the shade of the leafs.

I have to disagree with you on that part. Rainbow Dash likes many things that deal with her being a pegasi, flying and being quick while doing so amongst those. She also likes to manipulate clouds for her own bidding whether that be pranks or to sleep on. I think when it comes to her sleeping she just finds a place to chill out like a cloud or blanket and falls asleep. Sure she has a home, but given the freedom she has she's obviously taking advantage of where she can go to sleep.

 

As for any arguments on the weathers bearing down on her, whether they be cold or rain, don't forget she is a pegasi pony. They probably have a better body built to elements of weather plus she can just push the rain away from her. When it comes to snow weathering as such I'd imagine that's when her home actually gets used.

 

Lastly most of the times she is seen sleeping outside it's usually what appears to be spring/summer time so it would be ideal for her to sleep outside like that when she gets the chance.

 

That's not to say she doesn't use her bed at all, she may opt to use it for those extreme cold days or when she would prefer the comforts of home.

 

Oh I did go just now to check on some images from the show and what do you know she actually does have a pillow with her in that tree. That would be a point across she doesn't really care where she sleeps so long as she feels comfortable. Guess she can prepare for such things there. As an after thought, maybe she sometimes sleeps in the day to work night shifts for weather control?

No I wasn't disagreeing the entire thing, just the thought of her choosing between a cloud and a tree. I don't think she really cares and just chooses something because that's what she likes for the day. I mean, she controls clouds and sleeps inside a cloud home. I'm pretty sure she just changes things up a bit for her own personal reasons.

 

Another thing to add in, maybe she also does it for communication purposes? Think on this, when she sleeps in a cloud it becomes near impossible to get to her. But in a tree it's easy enough to buck it or call down to her. She might sleep there in an attempt to see if anyone is interested in hanging out with her here.

Don't forget Dash also manipulates clouds, she probably puts them close to the ground for such a reason here. Clouds are supposed to stay away from the ground in general otherwise we'd see more of them ground wise in the show right?

Why does my Dad always choose to take his naps on the couch? Cause my mom takes her nap in the bed. There for their must be somepony else sleeping in her bed. I'm kidding. Shes just looks for a place to crash.
