I got a Tumblr. Now what?

I got a tumblr because everyone seems to love it and I was told "crazy" people are good bloggers (my life is pretty weird, so am I). But it seems really boring...is there something certain I'm supposed to do? Why does everyone think it's so awesome...?

(P.S. I might have put this post in the wrong place. If so, feel free to just move it or lock it if a similar one exists. Whatever~)

Well, Tumblrs are great if you're popular (especially in the fandom) because ponies can ask you questions :P

Also, tumbrs are also good if your "artsy" :P, like in music and art. When you write something, it's normally like a cross of a blog and a Facebook status. Not a long explanation, not a annoying snippet, but somewhere in the middle....

I have a tumblr also, but I'm nowhere near active :P

I just got into Tumblr. I made one a couple of years or so ago (I really can't tell you when exactly, it might have even been just a year ago) but couldn't understand the appeal back then. I then came back recently (like a few weeks ago) and decided to turn my Tumblr into a woodwind themed blog where I post woodwind images. That instantaneously got me a number of followers for some reason...

From there I split off because I saw a lot of images from other categories that I wanted to reblog (that includes ponies, yes), and I wanted to keep them separate, so I created my own 'personal' Tumblr.

It seems like to me that Tumblr is big for images, not so much for lengthy blogs, although you can post those.

I'd like to know what Tumblr is fun for, too. I was thinking of joining maybe. But then again, I don't have much to blog... so, maybe not. Maybe I'll join if I have some short and nice stuff to post about.

You should do everything people tell you from now on, because what's good for one person is the proper choice for everyone else.

^ Facetiousness.

Just using it as a repository for images following a particular theme will get you some followers, but the most successful tumblrs seem to be ones owned by artists. There isn't much point in getting a huge number of followers, or any followers, unless you're posting original content with the desire for feedback though. As for blogging about your "crazy" life, I don't think that will go very far unless you have some exceptionally weird circumstances to recount. If you do, keep in mind that you might get some equally weird people following you. A tumblr might not be your thing, and that's alright. If you don't need it, you don't need it. Simple as that.

I just use it for the funny images and to follow some ask blogs I like.

Also, there's usually some pretty sweet music floating around there.

I personally love blogs beside my own, and use it for storing a bunch of GIFs and clever images that I look back on later/use on forums. There are plenty of blogs out there that have plethoras of content pertaining to your interests (art, humor, ponies, etc.).

I use my tumblr to post silly, depressing, relevant, pornographic, foul language, rant, and pony stuff. Pretty much all of my friends hate mine. You can follow if you want. not-going-to-bed.tumblr.com

personally i find tumblr rather boring. most people just copy other peoples stuff anyway (repost or reblog or share or something) and most people dont read things when you post actual content anyway. i found it to be more about images, but not creating your own images or sharing unique images with friends, it became like collecting images. how many of the same thing can i repost from everyone else. idk, i got real bored real fast. i preffer to stick with livejournal, which i rarely use.

Actually, I'm more intrigued by the 23 per cent who are apparently doing quite well for themselves."

Tumblr is pretty useful for me. I can post updates on what I'm doing and anyone can ask me questions in regards to what I do. It's also fun to interact with other artists on there as well. Sometimes it can make for some truly funny communications.

Even if you don't have much original content, just being part of the experience is normally enough fun for most. It's a fun way to stay connected with artists you like and interact with them as well. You can ask questions both by name and anonymously, so it can make for some interesting times.
