Stars?

I might just move to Canada. Just so I can see the night sky for what it brings to us at night. I think Luna would like it if we stopped bringing in all this light pollution.

Yeah, I really wish my area would get out of the religious nut gloom and actually care about the environment, my area needs to practice Earth Hour sometime.

Yeah I've had thoughts of moving west to Wyoming or Montana, less urban areas. :D

Syracuse is near a hotspot with many, many lights, but there are great places to stargaze if you go up into the Onondaga Valley region. I actually live near the Reservation and there's this park that's atop a cliff-like landscape, and if you go to the very top, you can see a crapload of star constellations. I haven't been there in a while, but the last time I went there I think I saw 5 of them, not including the Big Dipper and Sirius.

I live in a pretty rural area so yeah, I can see quite a few stars here. At the very least, I can see the planets if the air quality is REALLY bad, but at most probably a few hundred stars.

However, you have NOT seen stars until you see them in a secluded area of a desert on a moonless night... You could literally find your way by the light of the stars, they were so bright. This picture is pretty close to what I saw: (except the ground was coated in sand and evening frost, so the ground appeared to be glowing, and the stars generally were more blueish in hue)

I wished I could have stayed out there longer, but it was freezing cold and there were coyotes on the prowl. (That sniffed my tent quite a bit after that)

The coolest experience though was just looking straight up into the milky way. I just was lost in that void, feeling so small but awed. Something you have to see for yourself to feel.

Lucky you, to those who can see stars. I live in a city, so that limits the possibility. :( One day when I move to a house of my own, I would like it to be a place where thousands of stars can be seen at night. I've been considering this for a while.

You people have no idea how jealous I am of the ones who can see the stars at night. I wish I could live in one of those areas without light pollution. GAH! I'm so jealous right now.

I used to be able to see the stars. Then I took Toronto in the knee. :P

Yeah I used to live more north in the country but my family and I moved to Toronto and now I can't see a single star. :(

I'd imagine you can see the CN Tower all lit up at night though. It may be pretty but it's not the same as the real stars. Where did you live before you moved to Toronto?
