I can't help thinking, with all the discussion of cutie marks being switched around, that the CMC are going to factor into the finale somehow. I'm not saying they will get thier permanent cutie marks, but they could temporarily acquire one of the other ponies' marks.

That's an interesting theory, it reminds me almost of the Portal series.

I personally, am in agreement. I don't think the Alicorn part will be permanent. Though she probably will be a Princess, but not "Ruling over Canterlot" kind of princess.

More of a "Princess but still most importantly the student of Celestia" kind of Princess.

I think I'm in denial too ;)

Don't forget, not having wings.  Otherwise, Rarity would be a lonely pony if she's the only unicorn in the Mane 6 (or Mane 5 if Princess Twilicorn is permanent).

forget about Alicorn Twilight. There are much bigger things to worry about. namely this:

Hello all. I saw this topic while surfing the web and wanted to chip in. I love the show, and I love Twilight Sparkle, and personally I believe she deserves becoming a Princess. But I read a few things on the first 10 pages of the topic that I thought were a little over the top or a little off. I want to give my opinion on these matters and see what everybody thought. the first point that I thought was off-base was:

1:Twilight becoming a princess ought to mean the show is coming to an end.

Um, why is this? When I see this, i take it to assume that the show is soley about Twilight Sparkle, but its not. It isn't even about the mane six. It's about friendship. About how to deal with those different than you and realizing that they have something to offer you, and realizing that having others around you just makes things better.

Look at Twilight Sparkle during the first episode. At first she didn't care about anyone other than Celestia, Spike, and her, at the time, unkown brother and parents. She wouldn't have even been to Ponyville if Celestia hadn't ordered her. Plus when she met the others, it was obvious that she couldn't get away from them fast enough. But by the end of the second episode, she realized that she wouldn't have succeeded without the help of ponies who had welcomed her as a friend, and that together they were capable of doing something far greater than they were able to alone and together they learn about friendship along with the viewer.

img-1150327-1-mane_six_no_bg_by_aquillic

If anything, I would imagine making Twilight a princess woud help the show run even longer. Nothing tests a friendship like a big change. I would compare Twilight becoming a princess to her winning the lottery. People always treat you differently when you're rich, and from the season 3 finale on, I would expect everypony, her friends included, will be treating Twilight differently. Twilight herself, being a mare of modesty will need to learn to cope with her differentiated treatment just as her friends might need to realize that despite the wings, tiara and title, Twilight is still the bookworm wizard they know and love.

2:Twilight, as a princess, will have to leave her friends and participate in Equestria politics.

Did i miss the episode where they said that a Princess is incapable of having friends, or dod this mean that Princess Celestia ordered Twilight to make friends, learn all about how wonderful they are, only to force them apart? Cause, that would be, you know, cruel. I doubt that will happen, because the show is about friendship, and Twilight would need her friends to keep the party going. On the other hand, she could just make new friends and forget about the others, but I don't think anybody wants that.

img-1150327-2-sad_pinkie_pie_by_brianc10

As for her taking part in Equestria politics or her replacing Celestia and Luna,( Who, lest we forget, are co-rulers of Equestria) I sincerly doubt that is gonna happen, at least in the span of the show's life. Regardless of what we may think, I believe Twilight is still very young, maybe late teens to early twenties(if you assume that Equestrian ponies age at a rate similar to humans), due to the fact that she is very much still a student. Celestia is very wise, as we all have seen, and she won't shoulder a burden on Twilight that she isn't ready for. I'm not expecting Celestia to hand Twilight a crown and say "get to work"

Twilight will eventually take a leadership role in one form or another. But that isn't until Twilight has learned a lot more. In the mean time, she'll be getting into tons of antics with her friends.(Just imagine episodes where Rainbow Dash teaches her how to fly, spike turns the library into a Princess Twilight mueseum with admission costing a jewel upon entry, or Rarity "borrowing" the royal tiara and subsequently breaking/or losing it and then trying to get it replaced.)

3: Princess Twilight would make the other mane six obsolete, and that she would become way too powerfull

I'd like to address the second point first with this:

img-1150327-3-Filly_Twilight_in_full_pow

When Twilight Sparkle's magic awakened, she not only hatched Spike, she aged him to the point where he was 4 to 5 stories tall, transformed both of her parents as well put some sort of continous levitation spell on four judges, put on a spectacular light show, and apparently discharged lighting. Does anyone really think becoming an Alicorn will cause that much of a difference other than giving her wings? And the problem of her being too powerful is only a problem if she abuses her power, which she won't, or is a master spell caster, which she isn't. Having the power isn't the same as being able to weild it.

As for the argument that the others would become useless, that would only happen if Alicorns are naturally (i.e. being able to do with no prior experience) able to:

  • make sonic rainbooms
  • be master flyers
  • work with plants, the weather (not counting the sun and the moon) and critters
  • be skilled business ponies
  • have the uncanny ability to predict random events
  • communicate with animals
  • tame the fiercest wild animals
  • throw parties for any occasion
  • be strong and athletic
  • Make top of the line clothes
  • be skilled bakers
  • Master Ice Skaters
These are all talents that Twilight, nor any of the Princesses have really shown, yet the rest of the mane six have shown more than once. These fillies are some of the most talented in all of Equestria, and twilight becoming a princess will never change that.

4: Luna was jealous of Twilight in "The Crystal Empire," and fears she is being replaced

Again I ask "Why?" as in "Why would Celestia replace her sister, who she loves and is her equal?" That just doen't make sense. I thought, when I saw that episode, that it was a worried look, like Luna was worried for her friend Twilight. The friend who reunited her with her sister and taught her how to cope with the new Equestria she found herself dealing with.

It was also mentioned that Luna left the room for the briefing. I think it would only be natural, considering Celestia called the task she had for Twilight a "test," and left to give the two of them their space. After all what business of it is Luna's to sit in on a private discussion between mentor and pupil?

Well that's all I've got. I tend to rant sometimes.

Aaaaaall of this. People need to try and relax a bit and stop assuming the worst or that only the worst is possible. Those things could technically happen, but um... lol. I can't see the writers going "okay, Twilight's an alicorn now. Let's make her friends look irrelevant!"

Eenope. We'll see how it goes when it goes, and I have no doubt most, if not none, of these fears will come true. Time will tell.

I've tried to view the picture, and unfortunately it's broken.  What is this picture of?  Why are you showing this to me?  In what way is this more relevant than Princess Twilight the alicorn, and why?

It says "To Be Continued", like at the end of S1 E1. I assume it means that Twilight's transformation into an alicorn isn't going to be a one time thing, but ongoing. When I first saw the post, I thought it was going to refer to humans appearing in S4.

I like the sound of this. I don't think it'll be the case, but I would approve.

I'm wary about this alicorn stuff, but at the same time hopeful and optimistic. Here's hoping. lol

I really think this Alicorn transformation might be permanent. Twilight will fufill her destiny, and learn more advanced magic. Then, I possibly hope for a return of Trixie!

I'll be honest, I think Twilight is going to pull a (Disney) Hercules friendship style and deny the role as a new princess and instead choose to be with her friends.

That, I would also like to see.  But, as usual, we'd have to wait until the episode comes out.  In the meantime, we can always post more rumors.  I could've added a poll on this thing, though.

EDIT: Never mind, everpony!  I've posted a poll on this thing, so that you could vote as to whether you'll think it's temporary or permanent.

I honestly still want it to be permanent, like something happens that she gives up or has the Alicorn form reversed, but I'm not sure how much I believe it or not.

I kinda wanted the Alicorn thing to be like if anything a temporary transformation so that Twilight can do something, but I'm having feeling it may be permanent.

I guess I just have to wait and try and be hopeful and optimistic for this to be handled well.

If not I'm going to miss Twilight :(.

That's quite the theory, but I don't think Celestia will do it. I also truly hope the effect will be temporary, but the reason she will become an alicorn, is because Hasbro wants to sell more toys. That might indicate that the effect will last for a while, or permamently at worst

But when you think about it, Celestia wasn't nicknamed "Trollestia" without a good reason, right?

Because she's the god-ruler of Equestria and Twilight's mentor, she was intended by the writers to have an air of mystery around her.  She did have Twilight unlock the Elements of Harmony with her friends to save Luna without telling her firsthoof!  Oh, and she never revealed that her pet bird, Philomeena, was actually a phoenix until the end of the episode, A Bird in a Hoof.  And, she allowed Twilight to pass the "Save the Crystal Empire" exam, even though it was actually Spike who saved the day.  And, we never know how Princess Celestia would have mortal relatives, like Prince Blueblood and Princess Cadence.

If she can pass Twilight for sending Spike to save the Crystal Empire in her stead, then sure, just surely, she might have set up all of those aforementioned events just to prepare Twilight for the highest-level spells in Equestria, rather than princesshood.

EDIT: Also, let's not forget about the previous episodes designed to sell certain toylines.  Sonic Rainboom had Rarity develop butterfly wings, just to sell pony figurines with butterfly wings of their own.  However, those wings were temporary, and then we had our old Rarity again.  A Canterlot Wedding and Crystal Empire were also designed to sell certain sets of toys, but even then, they were brief, and then we were back with the Mane Six.

If those were temporary, then surely the same can be said for Princess Twilight Sparkle.  Am I right?

You do raise a good point, but the things Celestia have done in the past have made me go I-see-what-you-did-there.png

But if Celestia decided to change the destinies and lives of every resident in Equestria just for a "test", I'd be pretty pissed off.

Well, what other theory could I have come up with?  I'm just simply in denial over Princess Twilicorn, constantly hoping that it would be temporary even though the writers never confirmed if this is either temporary or permanent.

Well, I think we have confirmation as to what happens now, mostly due to what we saw in the preview of the final episode of S3.

The elements of Harmony are used on Twilight, and Fluttershy comments on her "looking like a princess."

There's still a lot left to uncover, but if this is how it happens, i'm actually... on the fence about it.

Larson could have done an incredible job here where Twilight has to "power up" because the spell she cast is so strong that not even Celestia can undo it.  Also, as a result, the elements of Harmony aren't strong enough being used individually, but only their combined power in one form will work.

Only thing that will anger me is if Twilight was a princess from the beginning and the only reason Celestia sent her to Ponyville was due to her having to learn about Laughter, Kindness, Loyalty, Generosity, and Honesty, then those others are turned away because they are no longer useful, unable to wield the elements of Harmony.  I hope that the other ponies stay with Twilight, acting as a guide for her, and Twilight has to be given power from her friends to utilize the elements she now embodies.  If that does happen anyways.

We don't know that.

As I said, maybe that spell Twilight created has side-effects, and Twilight would have to sacrifice her princesshood to reverse them.  And let's not forget about that book at the end of The Crystal Empire two-parter!  Perhaps Twilight will be given that book in the end, to compensate for her sacrificed princesshood, and the wings and magic that comes with it.

Enough with the side effect theories already, please.

I saw that trailor too, and it reminds me of something I've always been thinking.  That the elements of harmony themselves could have been responsible for Celestia and Luna originally becoming how they are. I think the form of a princess is more of a reward granted by the elements, not the relics themselves but the forces that empower them, to ponies who take part in guiding the destinies of all the tribes to a better future.  They must have done some great deed that helped all the other tribes and were given bodies that embodied all the tribes. That's what I believe at least.

So the hay what?

Hasbro and the writers made a mistake in changing Twilight into an alicorn princess.  If any time the episode airs and it turns out the change will be permanent, then it won't matter if that episode is good or not.  They've murdered both Twilight Sparkle and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, all out of fear of stagnating the series.

Luckily, I've just recently sent Hasbro an angry fan-letter regarding this.  I don't think they'll respond, but I hope they read it anyway, and understand how much of a mistake they're making in regard to this idiotic choice.

I'm sorry I don't understand why people are this upset over something like this? Yeah it's a serious jumping the shark move (or what ever the term is, I'm sorry I'm not very smart), but it's something that's been hinted at since season 1. We knew it was coming.

I personally am exited about this and how this will play out for her. How her new status will affect her and everyone around her, new obstacles, hopefully more personal interplay among the mane 6 that develops throughout next season.

Agreed.

Twilight becoming a princess is not the end of the show, it's the beginning of a new chapter. The more I think about it, the more excited I am for the finale, and that's saying something considering how knee-jerk against I was originally.

Here's another theory regarding the Season Three finale, except this time with a completely different side-effects theory.

You saw how five of the girls use the Elements of Harmony to turn Twilight into an alicorn, right?  Well, what if it also had the side-effect of stripping Twilight's friends of not only their Elements, but also their personalities, causing them to act opposite of their Elements, like in Return of Harmony?  At that point, the only way Twilight could restore her friends is if she gives the Elements back to them, at the expense of her princesshood.

I know because I once saw background cells of the Carousel Boutique and Sweet Apple Acres in complete shambles.  Odds are, that Rarity might have closed herself inside her own shop to hoard whatever gem or rock she could find for herself, as a result of losing Generosity, while Applejack would stop working on her farm while lying about it, a sign of her lack of Honesty.

And, please, stop coming up with stupid counterarguments that will only do nothing except make me rant and rave, and spell doom and gloom over both Twilight as well as the show.

Okay, now you're just reaching.  You clearly hear Fluttershy sounding unaffected in the new trailer after the transformation.  The Elements of Harmony have never had a determental effect to those who used them.  The entire point of the elements is to protect Equestria.  It's more likely that Twilight involved the Elements in her spell to save her friends, and Twilight was transformed after the fact, I believe because of how strong the feelings of friendship had become from the latest adventure.

The entire point of posting a theory is to get feed back on it and have it discussed.  You can't take it personally when you find it that others disagree with you or find flaws.

Well, what if the side-effects do not take hold until much later on?  Fluttershy might have seemed normal, but as time progresses, her loss of the Element of Kindness would gradually turn Fluttershy into a cruel-hearted jerk, like in Return of Harmony.

I have a feeling that if she ends up giving up her princess/alicorn-hood (either because she doesn't like it, or it is having aftereffects on her friends or Equestria*), it won't be until the beginning of S4. This has cliffhanger written all over it, and I know with almost complete certainty that the opener for S4 is going to bring closure to this.

This is a two parter, just separated by a seasonal hiatus.

*The other option being that just like during the magical release at the Crystal Empire, her alicornism is a temporary vision of her future. By saving her friend's destiny's, she gets a glimpse of her ultimate destiny. She experiences it, for just a moment. Then she reverts back to Unitwi, gets a visit from Celestia who explains what she experienced, and now that she knows her future, her duty to study the magic of friendship is reinforced.
