gaming Is Call of Duty Black Ops 2 getting too much attention?

I have never been too much of a CoD fan. Most likely because I have never beaten a campaign or payed any attention to the story. I just go online and play multilayer. Here's my question to you however, is Call of Duty Black Ops 2 getting too much attention or hype JUST because it's the next CoD game? Or did things change other than graphics, is the story good, multilayer different, or anything outgoing enough to really catch your attention? If so, please post it. I'm fascinated to see if this game is worth buying or not.

Normally I'd say CoD is the most overhyped series in gaming history (which I think it is as a whole) but from what I've heard they actually made this game more sandboxy so that's got my attention...

Okay, maybe I'll look into more. Oh and btw, love your Metroid suit. /)o3o( But what all have they changed if you could possibly elaborate?

I have it and, to be honest, I'm really enjoying this years outing. :P Solaris is right: the game does feel more Sandbox-ish, and you're open to play the kind of game you want with the new class building system.

It's a fun game, but do I still think it's overhyped? Oh yeah, big time. There have been so many better games this year alone, and none of them have been so over hyped as CoD. Quite frankly, it's getting kinda ridiculous.

To be honest I don't really know.. I'm not a huge Cod fan really, I play it here and there, but I'm totally crap at it to say the least. I don't really know much about how the game is since I've never actually played it or looked at much of it, but its apparently suppose to be better then the others as far as recycling goes.

I don't have the right to say anything since I haven't played it, no reason to judge a book by its cover. I mean thats why we're all here right?

Probably. The zombies isn't as good as I expected, although I did have fun. The maps are either too confusing or too small, for me. Maps are always so expensive on CoD, anyway, so while all my friends are playing on these new map packs, i'm on free maps.

I haven't bothered to play the campaign, yet.

Multiplayer is alright, but a bit confusing and takes time to get used to. A lot different from the first Black Ops.

Call of Duty Black Ops 2 is getting attention because of two reasons:

1. It's the new "Call of Duty" game.

2. The game has changed a little bit since there's some future stuff now, but it still feels like cod. So don't expect any huge difference to the preveous ones. Also, the campaign has been changed so how well you do in it affects the gameplay in other missions and stuff. There's also some special levels you can go play as either one in the force or you can play as some overwatch guy, I don't know too much about this since I haven't played that mode yet.

Also, there's Zombies. Zombies was enough reason for me to buy the game.

But there's a bunch of new things added to it, I can't really say it here since it's alot but you can find it in many youtube videos. There's for example differend game modes in Zombies such as "TranZit" where you can go with a buss to different locations in one big map solving clues and build stuff. (Also since it's a Treyarch game there's loads of easter eggs)

Since I am a big cod fan it was an obvious yes for me to buy it, I preordered the Hardened edition.

Normally I'd say CoD is the most overhyped series in gaming history (which I think it is as a whole) but from what I've heard they actually made this game more sandboxy so that's got my attention...

Call of Duty is very overhyped yes. Though don't hate on it for being overhyped, the game "Team Fortress 2" is the most overrated game ever. It's so overrated I shit bricks thinking of it.

..And ye that sandbox thing describes bo2 quite good. You get 10 points and you can spend them in your class however you want, everything costs 1 point. Ex you can get 6 perks and no secondary gun if you so want.

Oh and I almost forgot to say, the game is really balanced. I can say this since I have played it alot now. Im soon Prestige 2. It's really good imo, if not the best cod ever. I personally love cod4 which everyone says is the best, but to be honest cod4 is overrated.

Oh2, (lol) the emblem editor is awesome to play around in, I've made a bunch of pony emblems :)

I have been reading some well written articles on how World of Warcraft (being the most popular game ever created thus far) has been using subliminal message tactics to get you better hooked on their products. For example, if you slow down some of the roars of the characters or bosses (I don't play the game so forgive me of my WOW ignorance!) you can hear very clearly in English, sentences like "Extend your account", "Give us your money", "Play everyday", and "Buy the update. You will be happier" etc. These messages apparently do not register with your awareness, but with your subconscious.

In relation to COD, I wonder if they use hidden subliminal advertising to increase their sales. If just a few get the subliminal messages, the players over hype the game and the company can take advantage of viral marketing via word of mouth, and the cycle continues once more get "unusually hyped" about the game, possibly due to subliminal adverting. Now, this is all just a theory and speculation ..but some of the evidence and videos I have seen are interesting. Who knows?

Subliminal advertising is illegal. But people still do it because it is hard to detect anyway, It tackles the subconscious.

Example of WOW Subliminal (now, this video could also be invalid: that's the great, and dangerous thing about subliminal ..its VERY hard to prove.

Zombies could improve a lot. Maps are way too small and (personally) fire is annoying to no end. The new "wonder weapon(s)" are a total bust. I thought this new 8 player zombie mode would actually be like 8 player co-op, but it's just a huge troll fest for about 15 minutes. If that's what they were going for, then they got it right.

Kino de Toten and Ascension were probably the pinnacle maps of zombies, which is something they need to look at when going further with whatever they are planning.

Campaign however is what Treyarch does best when it comes to Call of Duty, and BO2 is no exception. I didn't even realize that certain actions will actually alter what happens in the game, something completely new to the CoD series.

Multiplayer has improved I feel, so that's a plus. Still getting used to the maps, but overall it's fine. The emblem editor is, for some reason, one of the reasons why I love BO2 the most.

Overall, it's a nice addition as compared to MW3.

Uh, well yeah but seeing how games have gotten really stale during the last generation of games, it's not even worth trying. Hopefully these games will go the way of Guitar Hero, forever forgotten.

Oh god does it get too much attention. I mean I don't hate the series or anything, but I don't think I'll be playing this one for a while, I didn't like the first Blops much anyway. Plus, there are tons of other games I'd rather play anyway since FPS isn't exactly my favorite genre.

BO2 is getting exactly as much attention as the other games get around this time of year. Its like this every year for the COD games, so this year really isnt a surprise.

It is getting WAY too much attention. I honestly dislike all of the CODs so making a new one was just a waste in my opinion. Honestly though, Halo 4 is getting a lot of attention, and so is that one other game that recently came out, I can't think of the name.

Some of the things that I enjoy about the game:

1: Enjoy the Custom Class making in Campaign

2: The way you play the game effects the outcome a bit

3: Completely customization of Multi-player classes, if you don't want grenades you don't have to have them. You don't want perks, don't need them.

4:The score streak system is awesome.

I think they did a rather good job on it.

Meh, in my opinion it's not getting too much attention. Even though people may complain that it's too "unrealistic", I've always thought of the Call of Duty multiplayer as a deathmatch sort of game...which is why I love it. And though they may come out with a new one every year, I'd rather just buy the new one since more people play it. I'm not obsessed with Call of Duty, I just find that as long as you turn voice communication off it's a very enjoyable multiplayer experience.

And yes, even though some people find that the robots and futuristic stuff is weird, it kinda reminds me of MGS4, which is awesome.

Any call of duty game gets to much attention in my opinion. Treyarch (and activison) just gets people pumped up for their game, so people pre order it rather than waiting to see gameplay of it to see if they will enjoy it. I am not going to state that their game is bad, but yes, I think BO2 does get too much attention.

All CoD games get too much attention, I just suggest they let the series die on it's own.

But the only thing CoD is actually useful for, is filtering. All the little shit talking kids are too busy playing CoD to get on and shit talk on games like tf2.

I played call of duty at a friend’s house many times and i don’t get the.. well anything in 1 game i grab the

shot gun and landed a double barreled blast to the head he spins around with an smg sprays me in the

stomach whith a smg and runs off and i die. :(

I thought i missed or something i asked him how he survived a shot to the head and he replied whit

"well you used the shot gun so of cores it’s not going to kill me in 1 shot try the sks or something"

Um... it’s a shot gun to the head in halo even with an over shield you don’t survive that

I don't think it gets too much attention, yes the marketing is very strong but I don't think it overshadows any other major releases (especially on PC) so I'm too bothered about it.

BO2 is the first CoD game I've bought since MW2 and it's actually quite enjoyable. The multiplayer is a great way just have fun and shoot stuff because really thats what CoD does well, it allows jump in and have some dumb fun.

I agree it's just a cash cow but I have to give some credit to Treyarch for at least attempting something different with the campaign even if they didn't do it as well as I'd of liked.

I haven't played the campaign yet (I usually don't play it until I hit the final prestige) but if I'm perfectly honest, this is the best CoD since 4 and if they add real dedicated servers (PC gamer here) then it'll be the best CoD made to date.

So, zombies, played a little and it seems more entertaining, more maps to start with is always good.

Multiplayer, the guns seem more balanced than previous CoDs, while some can be a little overpowered in certain situations, it beats the old CoD style of 'give them the best guns first' each gun is specialised in a way, be it the least recoil of its type, biggest magazine, best fire rate, hugest damage. Also I like the whole weapon prestige feature and i like that when you prestige your unlocks don't reset, hated having to choose between golden guns and prestigeing in the old CoDs.

Here we go, the cliche hater thread against CoD. I wish people would give it a chance.

I don't like BO2 to be honest. I really like Black Ops 1, though, and it will remain my favorite game in the CoD series.
