My friend seems to find Derpy's voice offensive but I don't see why exactly.

It was how I expected Derpy to sound, if she came out sounding posh I would have been disappointed.

Derpy is Derpy for herself. If someone finds that offensive then it is their opinion but I myself see no problem.

I think the best thing to do might be to just let the whole thing die and not try to get Hasbro involved. As it is right now, they don't see a problem with Derpy. They haven't been flooded with petitions and letters. I think we should let sleeping dogs lie. The more attention that gets brought to it, the higher the chance that they WILL decide to "censor" Derpy.

So last week, I got the best present ever. Studio B, with apparently blessings from Hasbro, set the brony mascot free and produced Derpy on screen. Called Derpy, being Derpy.

 

It was, if you ask me, fantastic. She was goofy, silly, klutzy and accident-prone and was exactly everything that she should have been.

 

Of course, this exultation of fun brought out the do-good brigade, the pants-wetting do-no-wrongs, the simpering surrender monkeys, the prissy PC righteous assholes - and they went and complained.

 

WAAH, Derpy is rude to the handicapped, WAAH, Derpy is an insult to the feeble-minded, WAAH, I can't bear to have Derpy called Derpy as I can't bear to see or hear anything less than bland, tasteless pre-approved non-confrontational, non-denominational, pre-digested explicitly inoffensive pap, WAAH won't somebody change my diaper and give me a bottle because the world is too scary and I can't stand it.

 

Well congratulations, hasbro caved. They called in QA, they complained to the writer, they had words with the VA and now they're pressuring WeLoveFine to pull anything with the "offensive" term of "Derpy" on it.

 

That can only mean one thing, they want to kill her off.

 

You short-sighted, self-righteous, self-impressed, puffed-up, pompous little wankers have taken yet another step in making sure that, in the future, amazing, enterprising, deep and overall fun shows like these are never made again.

 

We'll be back to gen 3.5 "newborn cuties" before you can say "boycott", which I'm sure was going to be your next words. You've got legal jumping all over it, now, and they're going to water down the show to make sure it doesn't offend anyone, ever again.

 

Which, as you know, leads to blandness and bullshit.

 

We can't have Zecora, she's insulting to Africans. We can't have Appleloosa and buffalo, they're insulting to Native Americans. We can't have Nightmare Night because it's insulting to Christians. We can't have Pip because he's insulting to the English. We can't have adventure, that scares the kiddies. We can't have anything too exciting, think of the angry letters when the kids wet themselves with fright.

What i dont understand is the need for it.

How did this even start? It's not like numerous news networks ran a story about the character's name and what not.

IMO why are they even bothering when no major backlash has even been present. People compain on the internet it's a given, if their going to change the show around that. They might as well go ahead and change everything else.

Her low, fast-as-walking-tree, flat voice. Her eyes. Her general clumsiness. If you combined all those factors with her nickname, you got a down syndrome. And that's why some overly-sensitive people who shouldn't watched cartoon in the first place found it offensive :/
