People who easily get offended

what do with these people. Especially if you put your work out there for everyone to see(call it art, music, literature). This happened to me on my deviantART with this artwork:

 

One user got offended by the word "RAPE" and commented on my artwork. This is the conversation:

 

 

User: If this is meant to be funny,then I'm pretty unamused.

 

Me: well, I can't please everyone, thanks for commenting I guess?

 

User: Do I have to remind you that rape is indeed not funny...

 

Me: geez, seriously relax, I know how awful and terrible rape can be, but I didn't intend to go through that way.

 

User: Then you might not want to say RAPE in big letters at the top.

 

Me: This is a very touchy subject that won't take place here and I won't partake in it because did nothing wrong, I'm sorry if it's offended you and like I said I can't please everyone. I intended to write "rape" because it's fun, it's called humor, some humors are very direct and spicy and many would get offended, but I enjoy these humors and if you want me to take down my artwork, I won't.

If you don't like it, don't see it and don't comment as simple as that.

 

User: I understand that many are going to be offended by this and you meant this to be a "joke" but rape is a serious matter and is something not to be joked with.I am not saying to take down your work,just maybe upload a version without the word rape at the top.

 

Me: and racism is a serious matter too and yet there are plenty of black jokes, and they are quite funny. Sorry but I won't change my artwork, it would lose it's essence, so I kindly ask you to not waste your time on this.

 

User: My my, if you had any sensitivity left in your "human" body you would think about it.Since you have you no humanity left I must get going.

My bet is this person is not even offended at all. He's just your everyday White Knight who will try to be as political correct as possible. He just have too many free time in his hand. The last line clearly shows that he's doing it for the laugh.

I very much dislike it whenever people make rape jokes for reasons I don't really feel like explaining (it would take like 20 years). However, I'm not some butthurt kid who flames about it. People have different senses of humour, and people joke around a lot. I usually make fun of/harass people all the time, saying rude remarks and whatnot, but it's all in good fun, because I'm just being silly about it. My legitimate views on people who harass others, though, are completely different.

 

People need to learn when to not take things so seriously and to heart. Simply ignoring things that "offends" them can solve millions of problems in their life.

Well i dunno, I mean its hard to tell if they're just being a troll, or they actually are truly offended. You do have to take into account the fact that some people may be touchy on certain subjects due to past experiences, personal or of close friends or family. I would just remember to look at things from the side of everyone.

However I don't find it offensive really, if he himself found it offensive I don't know if he really had to say anything about it, but I dunno what to think on that really.

 

I don't really think theres anything wrong with people being offended sometimes by things, if they have something thats a touchy subject to them then you might be better off just not discussing it at all with anyone. Some people just might not see it as a joke, even if you and me do and others aswell.

 

I don't know if I'd say you did anything that was particularly wrong, but just remember to look at it from both sides.

 

Theres some things that I can be easily offended about to be honest. I mean this isn't one of them for sure, but I'm sure theres people who are. To be honest I'm probably a bit sensitive for a guy though(Maybe to sensitive), so who knows if my opinions totally valid for everyone.

 

Just look at it from both sides, and understand some people make be offended by certain things more then you, however I don't think he really had to express his feelings regardless, therefore your not in the wrong for sure. And of course he could always just be a troll.

Well, if he/she truly was offended by it, then he's not going to have a fun time on the Internet if he actually realizes how many "Rape Meme Pics" are out there.  However, I think it's just as likely that he was being a troll, but sadly, we're at the point where I can't rule out either option; some people sadly try to be that politically correct these days, and it is mind-numbingly infuriating!!!  Oh, to answer your question Motion Spark, you did nothing wrong here, both in the artwork and in the conversation; I particularly enjoyed your little zinger about racism (very "Touche" moment, if you will  ).  You didn't come off as a jerk; he, on the other hand, came off as either a jerk, a troll, or just plain stupid.

I'm sorry but that artwork is hilarious, this is just another case of some person who gets butthurt over something that offends her/him even though it was clearly not meant to be taken seriously xD

Until a photographic evidence is presented, assume everyone is a guy. Even if this guy is indeed a girl, it doesn't mean his/her opinion have more weight than before

 

There are a LOT of worse arts (moral-wise) out there. Yours is not even that bad. You can almost say it's an image macro.

Truly, seeing that conversation, I'd love to see that guy respond to the song "Rape Me" by Nirvana, I think if someone tries to be THAT politically correct, they won't have the comprehension skills or lyrical interpretation abilities to understand the song.
