Not the movies. The company, itsself. It's the same thing that happens to most companys that are founded with good intentions. Once the founder passes on, it becomes more of a struggle to get as much money as possible than actually being morally and ethically sound.

Same thing happened to Walmart when Sam Walton died. It still produces quality product, but you ask anyone who worked when Sam was in charge and they'll tell you it was a whole different atmosphere then working there, now.

Walt had a passion for what he did but he was VASTLY interested in his company making money. He produced 5 feature films in a row during WWII that only appealed to certain international markets so that he could ring in the bucks while his other more noteworthy movies like Pinocchio or Dumbo were banned.

I see your point, but I still think the company was better with Walt around.

It's not a bad company, and I'm sure the creative team still has alot of passion, but I'm just not so sure the people at the top are concerned about the same things.

Beauty and the Beast still impresses me to this day, 20+ years after I first saw it in theaters.

It's not just nostalgia filters talking either.  I loved it when I was 13, but then I had about a 10-15 year gap where I'm not sure I watched it at all.  Then a couple of thanksgivings ago I saw it again, and I was floored as to how well executed it was.  There's a remarkable subtlety in the characters, especially in the Beast, whose tragic nature seemed much more poignant watching it as an adult.  I think I appreciated more how belle was a well rounded character (she's clever but sometimes lacks foresight, she's patient but she has her limits).  And most of all, I think I really realized how bad a guy Gaston was.  Before, I saw him as just kind of a really vain a-hole, but now... in the real world, this guy would have the markings of a future abusive husband.  Thinks of Belle as an object to be won rather than a human being,   expects everything in their relationship to go his way, makes threats against her in order to get what he wants..

Excellent, excellent film that deserves to be the first animated feature to get the Best Picture Oscar nomination.

I think I had mentioned before that The Nightmare Before Christmas and Frankenweenie is my favorites.

Back in the 1970s my family had Clock Cleaners on a reel.

My other favorites are Meet the Robinsons, Treasure Planet, The Incredibles, Wall E and Atlantis the Lost Empire.

I love Disney!  My favorite movies by them are The Fox and the Hound (which I feel is more depressing than Bambi), Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Bolt, A Goofy Movie, and Aladdin.  Also, my favorite movie is The Brave Little Toaster, which was published if not made by Disney.

I love you.

I always felt that The Nightmare Before Christmas got way more praise than it deserved. Probably because I'm not a fan of stop motion animation by any means, but I felt the story was bland and the characters weren't really memorable. It was more of a "goofy" setup on a play-on-terms with the theater genre and a parody of holiday specials.

Also, Beauty and the Beast is a great movie, but I felt that it's even more enjoyable when it goes on stage. I think it fits more as a theater number than it does as animation, but that's just me.

While all of the classics are amazing, and I highly doubt there will ever be another animated movie as as amazing as The Lion King...one of the most underrated Disney movies has to be Treasure Planet. It is a great coming-of-age story based off of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island.

I love Disney. The animated movies are so inspiring and beautiful, and a love a lot of the live action ones as well, especially the older ones. The theme parks are central to my life and their history (as well as all aspects of the company) has been a hobby of mine for years. I see Disneyland all the time but when I can afford to go on vacation I like to go to Walt Disney World just to shake things up. :o

My favorite animated movies are Beauty and the Beast and Tangled. Beauty and the Beast shaped my life when I was younger (not to mention now) and Tangled seems like it was written just for me; it's like they were inside my mind!

The Broadway shows are phenomenal, especially Beauty and the Beast, which I've seen many times. It's like an addiction (even the smaller companies). :twi:

When I was a teenager I wanted to be an animator or Imagineer but circumstances took me in another direction. (Not that my chances were all that great as an artist!)

Disney is a major part of my existence and I couldn't imagine living without it. Everything would just seem so empty. :adorkable:

While I will always respect what Disney has done in the past and their movies were a big thing in my childhood, I feel like one of the only people that is getting sick of modern Disney. Them buying up other media giants for more control, playing it safe with all of their properties, constantly churning out the same comic book stuff that hardly feels original and of course, remaking all of their classics into lifeless "live action" versions because of no creativity and plenty of nostalgia money to be made. Personally, I think Disney already needs to be knocked down a few pegs.

absolutely horrendous, bum-awful, lifeless remakes

am I the only one who actually gives any of the live action remakes a chance? Because some of them are actually willing to do new things rather than be a shot for shot remake. Because I don't like it when people are quick to say the remakes ruined my childhood. They still sell the original Animated films

I do appreciate the live action ones, thought some are admittedly awful like the lion king and others I like the visual translation but not the re writing. Also there's the nostalgia factor which almost by rule it dictates that the old or original version were always better but to be honest I didn't liked the genie from the original Aladin and prefer the will smith one when he's not trying to be Robin Williams (nothing against williams but I liked him better in other roles).

Yes, I've grown up with these too. There are some Disney movies I loved and other which I don't like so much. But even if I do not like every Disney movie, sure the quality was always high in these movies and I at least I could appreciate what they made.
