music Does your music define who you are?

I've got the likes of classical, to pop and even metal, some rap, techno  and who knows what else.

I guess I really like a whole mixture of things, I like music of any kind. Depends what I feel like at the time.

I'm sure we all know the stereotype for classical music lovers, and rap lovers for that fact too.

I wouldn't say it defines who you are completely. It might shape you a little bit, but I even know a nice old lady from church who has some heavy metal song as her ringtone. Who would've guessed.

Music is an art, and anyone can appreciate it in my opinion.

Usually it does. I like all kinds of music from: Classical to Pop to Hip hop to a little bit of rap. Only genre I don't like is country.

In my case - no, my music does not define me. I listen to very varied music styles. There are simple, upbeat songs, there are dark, creepy or even scary songs, there is depressing music that goes almost to suicidal-like sound and all You can find between like for example parodies/comedy songs or love songs. There are even agressive/violent sounding ones and I am far from violent person.

I'd be one weird person if I felt it all at the same time.

Yeah. I listen to death metal which fits me because I'm a tough and angry person, but I'm also a passionate and empathetic person. Passion and empathy are communicated through death metal in way that many other musical genres cannot, and a lot of people who take it at face value don't realize this.

I listen to beautiful symphonic music and soundtracks, Christmas music, and other religious music, and that fits the good, virtuous, kind aspects of who I am, even when they're buried pretty deep within me.

I listen to gangster rap all the time and it fits my problems with anger and apathy, but I certainly do not agree with or support the kind of content they have in their lyrics, such as glorification of violence, drugs, unsafe sex, and so on.

It kinda does,

I tend to listen to really extreme kind of Metal music which sometimes match my angry personnality, but since I also tend to listen to a lot of technical metal music and even sometimes experimental metal it matches with the fact that in my life I tend to be experimental with my projects and my actions.

It depends. I have about 1000 songs. Only three of them are non-visual kei. What does that tell you? Well, I think it is safe to say that visual kei pretty much defines my life. I'm not so sure about me as an actual person. I have different types on my iTunes such as j-pop, j-rock and j-metal. So, it depends on what other people think of that and how that alone defines me in my opinion. It's not about what I would think.

oh yes! Very much so...

While I tend to like at least one song in every genre,

My main loves are electronic, classical, and punk/post hardcore.

When I was a kid, I got into classical through my grandparents. My Grandad (RIP) was a

very talented opera singer, and my Grandmother was a fantastic pianist.

There was always some kind of concerto or symphonic piece playing in the background when I was a kid,

(My parents and I lived with them temporarily while my Dad was getting his masters degree)

and I loved it! I love good melodies, sweeping strings, and deeply moving compositions.

It's just so beautiful to listen to.

As I grew older, I got into a bit of pop and rock. I enjoyed metal-esque guitars, good drums, and well thought out instrumentals. But then came my biggest love,

Electronic music.

When I was a kid, I was a gamer...or at least, as much as I COULD be. All I had was my dad's old Gameboy, and 3 games. Super Mario Land, Nemesis, and Tetris. While Super Mario Land was my favourite of the 3, I probably played Tetris the most. It was (and still is) just a great puzzle game you could pick up and play any time! But most importantly, I found the music to be incredibly addictive! I always loved the "B" theme on it, such a unique melody. And then one day, I went out lazer tagging with the family and ran into this song.

Tetris Revenge...

A melody I recognized, with a crazy twist.

I searched and searched for that track...it was the first EDM track that got my attention and inspired me to seek more.

I bought some mix CD's, started making mixtapes, and my genres progressed the more I went along.

I started out with Hard House, (which is an American made genre that had its roots in chicago, and LA) and then moved on to trance, progressive, house, hardstyle, and finally dubstep/brostep/idm/etc.

Whenever I play music, it always matches my emotion at the time. I'm generally a somber/sometimes edgy guy. So I'll always be playing something with a good melody or an intense drop. The same goes for my productions.

I got into producing around 4-5 years ago, and have found that it's a great outlet for capturing ones emotions/memories at the time, and storing them eternally for reliving. So basically any music I create is based on who I am, and how I feel at the time. Anything that inspires me or speaks to me, I'll put into my productions. It gives them soul.

I guess in the end, I'm a music lover in general. So therefore, if it's a track that speaks to me, and it's something that I feel represents me in some way, I'll have it on.

So, short answer? yes...my music defines EXACTLY who I am.

No, since I listen to a shit tonne of different styles of songs.

Ranging from calm IDM, to upbeat EDM, to ear-blistering brostep/metal.

Probably not. I listen to too many genres that it could seriously define.

Musicals do certainly define my bad temper and highly emotional personality. Besides....Some of my favorites also define my search for tranquility.

In a sense I suppose it can. Let's look at my favorite types of music.

Power Metal

Symphonic Metal

Progressive Metal

Classical, Baroque, Romantic, Neo-Classical, etc.

Movie, TV, and Video Game score/background music

Ska/Punk

Now, if there is one thing that I am is that I am very inquisitive in regards to certain things, I am a think & day-dreamer, and I try to be helpful.

I think both the metal & orchestral sides of music can speak to me of that, not sure about ska/punk though. XD
