Seriously, why so sad?

Alright I want to know why the fan made brony music is so sad and depressing. Songs like A Final Twilight by Matthew Mosier and Home(zecoras theme) come to mind. I thought this was an upbeat show. Instead of being happy i find myself fighting back MANLY tears.

Because sad music is easy to wright. I can name off a bunch of brony songs that are happy, but more that are sad. Same thing goes with actual music. People generally connect to it better.

Same mentality for why there's asstons more depressing fanfiction than happy fanfiction. Most people seem to find it easier to push characters to their emotional limits with sad things than try to make casual or happy stories/music.

It is sort of like a bar. Everyone wants to push the bar higher when it comes to sad. I am writing a fan fic that is sad, and there is a bar that I want to get passed. Same thing goes with music. The music is getting sadder and sadder. It is this bar that make people want to  hit even higher. I wonder when there is a certain point when it cant be pushed any higher.

The majority of brony music isn't depressing. Most of what I've come across is ordinary dubstep/EDM, some metal, and even some

. There are also a ton of remixes of every song from the show itself that run the emotional gamut, and remixes of fan-made songs. The instrumental jazz/swing piece I linked to is a really upbeat remix of what was originally a dour metal song created by one of the most prominent brony musicians. Look around more. You'll find plenty of music to suit any mood.

I've wondered about this too. Their is so many sad fanfictions that are really depressing then thier are happy or funny fanfic's. My fav type of fanfic's to read are the one's that start of sad but have those happy endings. I just read a fanfic with Derpy that I was worried about reading but I was glad as it ended on a happy note.

I'm just gonna say it.  Everyone's come off of My Little Dashie and Mother 3.  So sad music is sort of a staple for the community as a result.

 

But not all the music I've heard is sad.  If you search youtube enough, you'll come across epic sounding music too.

I love Alex's work. he is one of the few artists that doesnt do sad songs(correct me if i'm wrong). I understand how music is art and part of that art is experimenting with different emotions and what not. What i find hard to fathom is why people want to push the bar. Isn't life miserable enough without seeing your favorite pony suffer?

Its just a popular way to make it sound, there is a lot of happy stuff out there too, but people like the "edgy" or "dark" styles that seem sad or angsty or whatever.

Well... I know you aren't talking about the dubstep or techno songs. Those are almost always upbeat (I can't think of a sad example). So are you speaking of instrumental? They are not always so depressing. Here's an example of a fun one:

 

I think it is a fun listen anyway.

 

 

Maybe it is that you are playing songs with a slow tempo and melancholic sound, and automatically assuming they are sad? Here's a song with the deep, dark tone.

 

It's not a sad story; it is one about rebellion and jealousy

Trust me, all the songs are by the artist, so, you will fall in love with the artist. I am also working on collabing with him. A couple of his songs are happy. I love them all. I have at least 7 on my iPhone

Well sad things are just easier to relate to and to write I suppose, its also easier to get an impact from being so sad then being so happy. It just seems to have more of impact on most people then happy upbeat stuff.

 

However to be fair, most of the songs I've seen around are dubstep like kinda things. I actually don't really have that much of a problem with some sad music, alot of it can be quite beautiful.
 

I honestly think theres a pretty good mix of different songs in the brony community, you just may be looking at the sad part of it or something.

 

With a community this big, if you look good enough your going to find quite alot of different things, with a pretty vast majority of any category of stuff.(Some of it may suck, and some may be amazing aswell.)

 

 

If you don't wanna listen to sad songs though you don't have to, I've seen quite alot of happy brony music, and plenty of dubstep type music, In my opinion I think dubstep is the most popular from what I've seen of the music.

 

Maybe I'm just crazy or something though , Sad songs don't bother me, I'll even listen to them sometimes, alot of the time it doesn't really make me that amazingly sad, in fact alot of times I just admire the beautiful music.(I didn't cry while or after reading My little Dashie though, so who knows .)

 

Anyways, I think theres plenty of music of different genre's to cater to whatever you like, you just have to search for it, if you don't like a type of it you don't listen to it, and its pretty much as simple as that .

I finished reading this and it was really, really sad  . I couldn't imaging being that guy(though I do wish I could own a pony in real life <_< ) The ending gave me small hope though as Rainbow-Dash taught him to live life.

It's because the fandom in whatever art form seems to find it more compelling if some emotion is being tugged.  Since sadness is the easiest, it's played out the most.  I honestly like sad music.  There are plenty PLENTY of un-sad things that come out as well, but as far as emotional art sadness is played out a lot.

Okay, now I know THAT'S a lie. I don't want to go through the great amount of brony musicians that I have that have lots andf LOTS of happy songs. And I can tell you many of them. Some have happy songs, sad songs, creepy songs, energetic songs etc.

 

And also, you're forgetting one important fact. Some of those songs actually carry a deeper meaning other than the headcanon imagination for it. A Final Twilight, the song you mentioned, was made because the guy who made it was leaving for the basic training in military, and this would basically mean he'd be away from the fandom until he came back a lot of time later, which was why he was sad. Using Twilight and his song is a great way to express it. So no, not all of the sad songs are just imagination. Sometimes the music carries not only imagination but the current feelings of the musician.

 

So yeah...trust me. There is NOT a majority of sad songs.  In fact, most of the instrumental songs that I know of, which would be the ones with most potential to be sad, are actually with different feelings, not even counting electronica genre.
