You can't lump episodes one and two as the same.

What are you talking about? I've never heard of them being mentioned as two separate episodes. Wherever I go, they're always referred to as "The season three opening" or something.

 

Anyways, I would appreciate it if the writers would more equally spread out the screen time of any one pony. That said, I suppose each of the mane six should get an equal amount of screen time.

Of course she is. All characters who are not Rarity are getting way too much attention. I mean seriously, EVERY episode should be about Rarity and yet she hasn't even been confirmed for one yet, and there isn't many episodes left in the season D:

And...yeah, Applejack gets too many devoted episodes.  It's natural that Twilight should get a lot, considering that she is the mane mane character.  But AJ's attention is just odd, especially considering that Applejack cultists sometimes think that there's a conspiracy to remove her from the Mane 6   .  Good to see a thread that claims the opposite for once.

As far as the most recent episodes go, but if I was to sit down and watch all of the episodes starting from season one. It still wouldn't fare much better for everyones favorite cowpony. I mean, all season combined she probably has the least amount of character focus out of the cast of characters.

Not too much, no. Definitely more than she's gotten anytime recently, though. Keep in mind back in season one there were a lot of episodes that had a focus on all the Mane Six, and had a few episodes focusing on a specific pony. Season three has been doing a lot of this in numerous episode. Spike at your Service, the Crystal Empire, Too Many Pinkies, Magic Duel; pretty much every episode other than One Bad Apple and Sleepless in Ponyville, which had half the Mane Six and not all, has incorporated most of the ponies. On top of that AJ, like Dash, has had two episodes so far in which she's been the lead Mane Six.

 

So, cumulatively, she's gotten quite a bit of screen time. But now, it's not 'a lot' per each episode, it's cumulative, like I said, so it's not 'too much'.

I wouldn't go so far as to say AJ had an over abundance of screen time so far in S3. Only 2 episodes were focused on her. (As of Ep. 9) "One Bad Apple" and "Sleepless in Ponyville" didn't give her alot of focus either, she was just kinda there.

 

Besides, she didn't have too much screen time in S2. Only AJ episode from S2 I really recall is "The Last Roundup". Even then she was sort of overshadowed by Derpy talking there. If anything, S3 is being fair with screen time of the ponies so far (Except Flutter. She's barely got any.  )

I don't understand how anyone can make such a claim without tongue in cheek. As stated before, Applejack has had more character development than even Twilight Sparkle. Outside of Twilight (the mane mane pony), AJ without a doubt has gotten the most attention (devoted episodes). This especially applies to season one. Seriously, to all those crying about poor AJ not getting focus, re-watch the series because it couldn't be any further from the truth. I am currently converting my husband in to a brony and he is the one who pointed out to me just how many episodes are AJ-centric. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against AJ or her hardcore fans. I'm also not saying that she has too much screen time. I've never been bothered either way. Truly. So please take no offense. I'm simply stating the truth as I see it. I just don't get it (the claim).

"Is AJ getting too much screen time?" I don't think that it is possible use those words in a sentence like that. It just doesn't work. Try using some different different words like, "Applejack's amount of screen time is perfect." Or "AJ needs more screen time."

I think I heard a long time ago that the writers wanted to focus more an AJ in season 3, since she is the least popular of the mane six. I think it's perfectly okay for her to have more episodes, especially considering her lack of fans. I think as season 3 goes on we see her character getting more developed, and we can see her personality more clearly. Plus, I learned a lot more about AJ.

 

So I think it's good how AJ is getting more lines. Now, all I need is a Rarity and Fluttershy episode, and I'll be happy as ever (I want to see more Rarity, and Fluttershy hasn't really talked a lot...)!

It would be a VERY big stretch to say that was a central Applejack episode. Just as much of the episode focused on Flim and Flam, and a bit on Rainbow. Given, she did write the letter at the end, but I still think that's a half episode.

Similarly, you could argue that a large focus of the Round-up episode went to the other Mane 6 characters and that the episode wasn't Applejack's... :v

 

I think it's fair that Applejack get's more screen time. She seemed awfully...well, with the lack of better word, secondary-ish in Season 2, not feeling like a main character. I think they're doing the same with Spike as well, as we see him more often as well. The focus on Fluttershy and Rarity, however, went down.

 

Whatever the case though, I can't say I agree with the shift of focus in Season 3. I'd rather have a Season where they each have balanced amount of screen time in the season, rather than them trying to balance it throughout the entire series, which, to me, ends up as a mess...

Even though I'm suffering from a bad case of Fluttershy withdrawal, I'm OK with it.  The extra time AJ gets this season made up for the lack of time she had in the past AND for having one of her previous episodes overshadowed by Derpy.

Let's look at how Applejack was used in season 3:

 

Ep. 1-2: Took command of the others while Twilight was gone, kept the ponies away from the biggest attraction for the fair, and acted as spokesmare for the other 4 (and even for Twilight at the library) before then.

 

Ep. 3: One of three friends that Pinkie had tried to spend her time with.  However, scenes were only spend on her and Rainbow, Fluttershy was forgotten along with Rarity.  Also, rounded up most of the Pinkie Pies.

 

Ep. 4: Was the go-to-pony for the episode (was the preferred one by Sweetiebelle over her own sister) and supervised the CMCs.  Provided infomation on the new character and helped teach the lesson.

 

Ep. 6: Served as the example sister, and her style of camping with Applebloom was made to be compared to Rarity's style with her sister

 

Ep. 7: Outside of Rainbow, her presences was second only to Pinkie of the mane 6.  There was a scene that her and Pinkie Pie shared where she tried to comfort Pinkie (a role usually reserved for Twilight).

 

Ep. 8: Nuff said.  Pretty much got the sole song of the season.

 

Ep. 9: Played Hero twice, and was the mare that the focus character looked up to.

 

In conclusion, Applejack has been used pretty well this season, even in episodes where she's not the main focus, she's playing a key part or getting more attention than some of the others.

people always complain that they don't like her because she "doesn't have enough character development"

then when the writers try to fix this by giving her more screen time and episodes, we get complaints that there's too much AJ.
