Twilight And Fluttershy Have Aspergers?

Perhaps, it would be best if you read what you quote, my no offence was not to cover my ass but, to more or less state I don't know everything about the syndrome or all cases however the fact is most people do not enjoy having the syndrome they may deal with it, they may be appsoultly fine with it (like in most examples) however, I haven't seen many cases where people say "I have aspergers" and everypony says, oh congradulations you lucky devil. Comparing what I said to not only descimanting on an inter race and using the "N word" is completely over stateing, you changed a exchange of ideas into nit picking with what I said, "oh he said no offenice better make sure he knows that, that's bad". Secondly, one of the many things which is a huge factor in "western society" is that everyone has there own option and right to express it this means that you can being up or accuse me of over thinking my feelings towards a charter but being my oppion it will not change. The reason I'm getting so "worked up" about the Biomacnics of a Pegasus is becuase despite posting "no one could know or prove how it (being the Pegasus) works yet, you continue to think that I'm in a debate about the matter when in acctual fact, the only thing that is annoying me about it is that you continue to belive that you would somehow, have an idea.

Well yeah, it's not the same, and is an overstatement, but the point is, ignoring societies attitudes towards race vs. neurology and the loaded language the two things say the exact same thing. I'm not saying that's what you said, the analogy was to show what how you said could be interpreted, and the further implications of what you said. I'm not nitpicking with your words, I'm suggesting you try to change your attitude on this, which I admit is by no means an easy thing.

For all I know pegasi are filled with jello and have shrimp for brains. The point is that we are comparing them with humans and flight is meant to be comparable to a human experience, so it makes the most sense if it's interpreted as being analogous to a human thing like running, especially for our purposes here.

I'm very sorry of what you're had to go through and thank you for your information, it is a very good point that all charters show some form of Autism.

Thanks for your concern and yes I indeed go through quite a bit and there were plenty of moments that weren't pleasant but it does present me the unique opportunity to help others with Autism and their families and educate the public about it. It is an opportunity I fully intend to take by writing about my experiences with Autism, as though things have come a long way there is still a lot of work to do alot of kids who have benefited from early intervention and full inclusion/gradual mainstreaming programs graduate from high school alot of them end up still need help in other areas yet end up falling through the cracks.

My point was not that all the mane 6 have Autism but that they show some traits which are common in Autism but are not entirely exclusive to it so if you stretched it far enough you could make the case that all of them have it, but since nothing is confirmed one way or another you can't really say for sure that they have it or not. But despite this I still understand why people diagnose characters like this even if I may not entirely agree with it. I personally don't have all that much in common with Flutershy but had a bit more in common with her in my younger years but have a great deal in common with Applejack and Twilight due to my strong sense of right and wrong, disdain for lying and love of knowledge and learning.

Twilight definitely has aspergers but Fluttershy's abnormalities are more of a trademarked personality trait than a mental disorder. I mean her name IS fluttershy it's not surprising that she would exhibit lack of confidence, assertiveness and skepticism. Twilight not only has aspergers but you also make a compelling argument for having OCD as demonstrated for her desperate need of obsessive organization.

OK. So i am autistic like some fans. But i was wandering and this has probably been discussed before. Does Twilight have Autism or Aspergers? She demonstrates habits like OCD and is worried about failure. In fact, did Lauren Faust want her to be autistic in the first place?

Ok so I might be stating the obvious here but; you don't have to be autistic to have OCD. My youngest brother has autism but virtually no OCD habits whatsoever, just a little example but then again different people have different quirks.

I don't think so, she just seems like a typical high-achievement-focussed student to me. She's usually very quick to sense what her friends are feeling, and is quite people-perceptive. (When the plot doesn't require her to be oblivious.)

I'd look a little closer at Pinkie, to be honest. She's not very good at picking up social cues, and can also demonstrate all of the things you mentioned.

No she isn't. She can pick up on social cues when she has done something to upset someone and has absolutely no trouble at all at learning or picking up new skills. If its explained in a book, she can practically do it within minutes XD

There is no doubt however she has Obcessive Complusive Personality Disorder due to her reliance on organisation/lists for practically everything she does and how she freaks out (to varying degrees) when her lists fail her.Ofc, she has her friends to help her when this happens but she'll usually exhaust every other option first before asking her friends to help. :)

I never had any reason whatsoever to believe that I am autistic.  However, about a year ago, I was presented with some strong evidence that has led me to believe that there is a good chance I have very low grade autism.  It wouldn't surprise me if Twi is too.  Makes sense to me.

I highly doubt it, speaking as someone who suffers from autism it doesn't seem like she has the same difficulty picking up on social cues, is the most perceptive of the Mane Six, and the exceptions for this seem to be plot convenience.

As for being afraid of failure, the stakes she has to deal with are usually pretty high and I think that has more to do with her wanting Princess Celestia be proud of her and is worried that approval will disappear if she fails.

No, you don't necessarily have to be autistic to lack friends.

I myself have aspergers syndrome which is a form of autism, but I have quite a few friends. Granted, I didn't always have so many friends. But hanging out in bars with people I know and stuff and getting drunk has earned me some close friends and many know-to-see friends.

OCD like traits are quite common in people on the Autism spectrum though and that sure was the case with me during my younger years and to a lesser extent right now but despite those traits I don't have OCD but am on the Autism spectrum. It is like I said in the last thread that brought up this topic, just because someone has traits belonging to a particular condition dosen't always mean they have it. I doubt that Lauren Faust intended Twilight or any other pony to have Autism but probably did intend her to have OCD, I don't normally diagnose fictional characters but Twilights case is obviously severe OCD which you don't need to be on the Autism spectrum to have.

I don't believe so........her personality and her intelligence doesn't seem to be signs of autism, but sounds like she has OCD.

OCD: You bet your ass she does!

Autism: Doesn't look like it to me. Here, check out this website. It'll tell you what the symptoms of autism are. http://www.m.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/tc/autism-symptoms

Twilight doesn't appear to be autistic since she doesn't tend to have problems with expressing her emotions when communicating with others (With the obvious exception of Lesson Zero, which appears to be a regular mental breakdown).

No I really don't think so. I work with some little kids who have autism and they are not like Twilight. Twilight is a perfectionist and type A personality with OCD. Some people think Maud Pie, Pinkie's sister, has autism but she seems less expessive than autistic people so I doubt she has it either.

How expressive someone with Autism is depends on what form, Maud Pie could very easily have it as a matter of fact I think she is even more likely than Twilight. There are many people on the Autism spectrum with similar traits to Maud Pie and I know someone who personally where that is indeed the case, of course that dosen't mean Maud has it though.

True. Even if Maud has autistic-like behaviors I don't think the writers intend for her to be autistic unlike the disabled wheelchair pony in Trade Ya.

I don't think so, and I have autism. A person with autism doesn't become obsessive of any particular field. It's mostly on the person's inner self and rarely shown to any person.

No, she seems to be very well receptive of social interactions. OCD doesn't mean autism. I don't think the writers ever had that idea in any of the Twilight episodes. I just don't see it at all, really.
