It's Tirek....and apparently he's a fucking monkey. Yes. A monkey. No, I'm serious. Maybe he's powered down and reduced to a....monkey form? He sounds different in this clip than the trailer, and looks different too. So ya, I'm guessing that's the case.

Well you can only see the lower part of his jaw, and it does look pretty ape-like, but that could actually be the point...

 

After all, there are no humans as far as I can tell in Equestria, so perhaps they have a "apes instead of humans" thing going on and Tirek is a Centaur that is half pony and half ape?

 

Either way... I know I wasn't the only one that said it would be Tirek... BUT IT TOTALLY SAID THAT IT WOULD BE TIREK!
 

My hype levels just shot up one million times. Tirek was absolutely creepy in that clip, he's just stalking alley ways in his weakened form draining ponies of magic and saying weird cryptic spooky stuff, sounds legit to me!

So Discord, who's been recruited, will go up against Tirek and the later's magic stealing won't work or is believed to not work, seeing as Discord has no horn, no cutie mark, is not a pony, and has powers based on the fact that he's a primordial spirit. Huh.

 

"I have use for Discord's magic if it can be used for good, instead of evil."

 

INB4 Celestia knew Tirek would come one day and that's what she meant when she decided to seek out turning Discord neutral.

All right let me just say that that clip made me even MORE HYPED FOR THE FINALE. 

I mean the villain being Tirek like from G1 that's very clever reusing the past since it works in this case due to there being passed generations. 

 

Also stealing cutie marks huh? That is genuinely creepy and would scare the target audience. I like it.

"When I was just a filly, Granny Smith told me of an ancient legend. When Nightmare Moon was banished, not every last bit of her dark magic went with her. Granny used to say, when night falls on the castle, that magic takes the form of... the Pony of Shadows!"

 

The shadow pony has yellow eyes like Tirek in the trailer, and I assume the pony of shadows is relevant to this season. All things considered, Tirek is the remnants of Nightmare Moon's magic...meh.

This is all assuming that Tirek really is a remnant of Nightmare Moon's energy. Tirek could have been stalking around and ponies didn't know who he was so they made up that legend to explain what he was.

Well they have said that the comics are "as close to canon as possible" but that's not saying they're canon. Tho if he ain't the pony of shadows I assume they're waiting for S5 or later, or they're gonna pretend it doesn't even exist anymore. Or they'll forget.
