Dealing with Haters

I've been wondering: How exactly does one deal with haters? I mean, I know that haters in general are pretty easy to get rid of... but what if the hater is someone you've known for a while?

 

~ Long story short ~

 

So my friend and I were Skype calling (we've been close friends since we were three. Our parents knew eachother), and I linked him a beast song by Vinyl Scratch. After around ten seconds, he closed the link, made fun on Vinyl Scratch, and started hating on the herd. As a brony I feel that one does not simply mess with the herd. So we had a little fight about the matter and he, of course, found out I was a brony. 

 

Now everything is all awkward and he can't get over the fact that I "actually watch that s**t". 

 

Big Question: What do I do? I can't let the fact that I watch MLP get in the way of a 13 year old friendship. I mean, friendship IS magic, right?

Maybe try seeing if he'll like MLP FIM, or if you don't feel confident enough to do that (which btw I wouldn't if someone I knew was dissing on me for liking it) I'd recommend not making a big thing about it, and just keep bronies and ponies a subject you two don't discuss and keep on other subject and intrests that you two do enjoy. If you two just don't agree over MLP then that's ashame but how it goes sometimes, it would be ashame to break up a 13 year friendship over a cartoon

Yeah a 13 year friendship is obviously more important than a cartoon. I'll probably end up trying to show him some select episodes and hope that he'll either like it or not be too hard on me for liking the show. A lot

Well.. I don't mean to brag but.. .

 

Naw but there are some pretty knowledgeable people here, and people with experience so I guess there's people who can give advice on all kinds of stuff, not to mention everyponies pretty nice so their normally pretty happy to give it .

 

You don't have to convert him or anything, don't force it upon him, because not only will he dislike the show more mostlikely, but it may harm your friendship further.

In my opinion for an episode would have to be Wonderbolts Academy because of roid rage. Hurricane Fluttershy because of raid rage again and Return of Harmony parts 1 and 2. Because discord is just so awesome.

I recommend showing him fan videos before showing him the show.

 

Assure him that the most girly thing in the show is the theme song, then show him the Discord episodes, Bridle Gossip, Wonderbolt Academy, and/or Sonic Rainboom.

 

Then, show him A Canterlot Wedding. He should watch that as his second or third episode, due to the fact that it starts off kinda girly, but it becomes epic in part 2.

 

Show him the fan music, which is amazing and ranges from pop to metal and everything in between.

 

If he refuses to watch the show, tell him that he shouldn't judge something that he knows nothing about. He either stops mocking you for it, or he watches it. If he still doesn't like it, that's fine. But he should still respect your interests.

Well, considering I am the same age as you and the fact that I've been severely bullied over the course of my educational life.

But, over the past year, I have finally learned to take things lightly and not care as much about life. So, try and not care what people say to you, it will make you feel better as a person. And whatever you do, if he's really that against the show, don't try and convert him into a brony.

After reading this topic, I have realized that I have done all of these ideas with one of my haters friends and it did not work.

       

If this guy really is your friend he will be like mine and accept you the way you are. You don't need to convert him to a brony to be friends with someone. Good luck whether you decide to continue trying to convert him or you allow him to do his own thing.
