The show and the merch is surely popular enough to warrant a couple more seasons? Why would they want to move on to "gen 5" already? This generation was an attempt to revitalize the MLP brand, and it was quite successful at that, right? For the shows own sake, it should probably end after a couple more seasons. After that, I hope for a gen 4.5, with the same design, and perhaps a few of the same characters.

I'm just asking to see how much longer do you think the FIM is going to run? I think maybe to season 5 or 6 but I can be wrong. I'm not sure how much longer they will keep this show going, but I hope it lasts for as long as it can.

Your topic, 'How many more seasons will run of MLP/FIM?' has been merged with 'How many seasons are slated for MLP?', as they both ask how many more seasons/total seasons you think the show will have :3

It's been confirmed for a fourth season, but I personally think that they'll stop at a fifth or sixth season. Anything beyond that would be asking for it to be run into the ground.

I think it will go on for as long as we keep on supporting it. All you closet bronies need to step out and buy merchandise which will then proceed towards the show!

Looking at it realistically, I would say there's a good chance at this point in time there will be at least another season or two after the fourth. The programme's popularity and its merchandise sales are certainly high enough to warrant more new episodes for some time to come.

Whether it will pretty much go on forever in the same vain as say The Simpsons, well, that would of course be great, but of course only as long as the story ideas didn't become stale, which in turn as a comparison, is just what happened to The Simpsons in fact for many years (only somewhat improving in more recent years).

Either way, there is still so much untapped potential in MLP's characters and world, so the optimistic side of me says it very well could go on literally forever! :)

Honestly, as long as the quality remains this high I'm game for this series to last however long.

However, if the quality begins to degrade I would want this show to stop.

  • 5 weeks later...

Do you think MLP:FiM has the same staying-power to last as long as SpongeBob and The Simpsons have, and truly become a television staple? Would you want it to last that long?

I want it to last as long as it can without significantly decreasing in quality. It most certainly is possible for it to continue for a long time, as three seasons have proven to me the ingenuity of the writers. I hope that MLP will go on for years and years, for as long as it possibly can. Yet, I do not want quality to be sacrificed for longevity. I would rather the show end with less seasons that were all of great quality, than to drag out for season after season that eventually declined substantially in quality.

I hope not I like the show and everything, but it needs to end before I die. Also 20 years it would get so stale, Imo both the simpsons, and spongebob have lost quality after a while.

I sure hope not.

I don't want to be drawn out, and have Hasbro milk the series. It should end when the story has no where else to go, and all the characters have finished their stories. If they draw it out longer than it has to, it will start to decrease in quality and no one wants that.

However, it will most likely return with a G5 which could be nice.

If it did achieve the long running time of the Simpsons, the quality would start to decrease in each episode. The Simpsons needs to die as quickly as possible, since the jokes aren't funny and the plots make no sense. I don't want it to stay on for too long, it would either get the audience bored or the writers would stop trying or caring. As for Spongebob, no offense to any of the Spongebob fans but the show is dying and the writers just aren't trying anymore. The plots are terrible, and the episodes are horrendous. Just like Fairy Oddparents and Johnny Test.

Probably.

I mean, as long as it keeps recycling in generations like it is, it'll probably last quite a long time.

Also, the only reason we have the show is so Hasbro can sell toys. Remember that.

Hope not, the shows have to grow, mature and then fade while they are still goods The Simpsons is now like a the rotten corpse of a very loved dissected dog. No one wants its there but no one its willing to throw it away.

I hope MLP would make a run up to a 7th even 8th year taking all the potential and side stories to the fullest

I doubt it'll achieve the same amount of longevity BUT that doesn't mean it won't be with us for a very long time. There's quite a bit of content they can revisit/recycle from previous pony generations (if they chose of course) and I'm sure the writers will come up with entirely new races.

Ya know what'd be funny but amazing? If at first it continues as the innocent show it is but as the years go by the series matures along with its targeted audience. Before you ask, yes I have been watching ReBoot again thank you!

I say "All good things come to an end."

That doesn't mean that I don't want it to run as long as possible, but I think that every TV-show has something like the optimal lifespan.

That is somewhat between six and seven seasons, usually. The best TV-shows mostly don't have more. At some point the writers will simply run out of good new ideas for the concept as it is then. Look at the Simpsons. You can't compare the new episodes to the old ones, it changed a lot in terms of pacing and many jokes feel forced. That's at least my opinion.

And Spongebob also changed. Not for the good as many think. And I have to agree.

So, before FIM simply isn't the same show anymore, I think it not just cannot (my subjective perspective), but also shouldn't run that long.

But that also shouldn't mean that it has to end completely. How about a "sequel" like it was with Star Trek? New characters and maybe even a slightly altered concept, but still the same universe and basic ideas. That would possibly be better than to force the original show to run as long as possible only to keep it alive.

Generation 4.5.

I'll actually say yes here.

But much like Blue Moon mentioned - I would want it to go into G5.

Most of the generations have been different from one another. But what I would think is a good idea is if the show took a hiatus for awhile and then went onto a G5 to showcase a new set of ponies. I would love it if they kept the same writing and cartoon style - just with new adventures, all new charaters and a new central storyline.

But to keep going with G4 would get so exhauting and overplayed. Every year I keep hearing that The Simpsons is still airing I am more and more suprised.

I hope it evolves into G5 so it can continue the franchise.  Until then I'm hoping for another 3 or 4 seasons.  Simpsons is a tired show that should just end.

Hopefully not.  Almost no show can stay good for 20 years, and as much as I love MLP, I don't believe it has the ability to do it.  The Simpsons got bad around season 11, as that's way later than most shows get bad (for SpongeBob I'd say it was around season 4 or so).

I love you.

There certainly is potential for the show to last quite some time, so long as they continue to have such a talented team working on it.  But the question of 'should it last' is another matter.  As far as I am aware, shows similar to FiM can, on average, last from 5 to 7 season before ending (do not quote me on that!), most on a decline well before their end.  Or, for all we know, it could have a similar story to the Arthur cartoon that is currently on its 13th season with about 190 episodes.

At the end of the say, so long as the DHX can continue to maintain good quality control on their stories, characters and the world they are continually building for the series, I would love for it to continue.  Otherwise, I hope they end the series on a high note and that G5 will be just as enthralling and well-executed.

Pokémon's tie-in animé became bad in 2005 (Pikachu exploding because it was exposed to a magnet, really? As if the show being nothing more than the same thing over and over again didn't get boring, now we got bullshit that isn't even part of the official Pokémon canon mixed in) and from what I've heard from friends of mine that still watch it, it's become worse. As others have said, Spongebob and The Simpsons can't be compared to what they used to be. If Freakazoid, my favorite show of all time, were to still be continuing today, it'd be an insult to what makes me like Freakazoid so much.

Simply put, no. MLP shouldn't have the longevity of the Simpsons or Spongebob. There is only so long something can remain good before becoming bad.

I doubt it.  And I think that's a good thing.  Personally I'd rather see it end after 5 or 6 seasons on a high note rather than go on interminably long and overstay their welcome like some series.

And another reason why it won't is that unlike Spongebob or Simpsons, it's beholden to the toys.  If G4 toy sales peter out and Hasbro wants to start G5, well there goes the show.

Oh, I hope not. The Simpsons managed only 9 or 10 good seasons before becoming a weak parody of itself, and even that was an exceptionally long boom period for a TV show; most are only good for half that long.

I think five seasons is a reasonable life for MLP. We may want to see more, but the question is can it go much longer than that without running out of ideas?
