What music did you find the saddest or most emotional in a video game. For me its almost the entire soundtrack of Journey. So beautiful. And bittersweet.

The song in Demon Souls that plays when you fight Maiden Astraea and Garl Vinland to retrieve Astraea's demon soul.

Very intense and very fitting of the somber mood that the fight establishes. After all, you start to question whether or not what you're doing is right during that fight, especially considering that the two of them were simply trying to help the downtrodden residents of The Valley of Defilement.

Good thread by the way.

One song that comes to mind was Variable X

It was pretty big for me in my childhood, and it manages to blend both sad and awesome pretty well, playing during Zero's Sacrifice

Also Enclosure from Metal Gear Solid, it's always playing at the best parts

Well, I can't remember all of the sad songs that I've heard throughout my gaming life but here are a couple of my favorites that I do remember.

A Song for Time - Final Fantasy XIII-2

Deepest Woods - Tales of Symphonia

The first one doesn't really sound that sad but I remember it playing during the more depressing scenes (or at least I think it did). Either way it's emotional...right?

I got 2:

Grey wolf Sif's theme from Dark Souls.

This comes due to the fact that after the fight, you learn more about its backstory.

The second one is Re-Stung from Blazblue:

This one comes from a certain scene in which this plays in Continuum Shift (Spoiler for being the true ending):

Continue to the next scene to see what happens next.

A lot of stuff from Final Fantasy.

How about this:

Or this:

Or then this from Mother 3:

(Would be so much better if I could actually find the music from the game, and not some dude playing a violin.) Also from the same game:

...if you haven't played this game yet, I very much encourage you to. Somehow. Heh.

You know, this song did bring a tear to my eye, but it wasn't because zomg the game is so sad. Rather, the game is beautiful because of how astonishingly childish and innocent it is without being babyish and dumb. Seriously even though this game had tons of mediocre moments, it also had points that were Miyamoto level brilliant; the soundtrack being one of those brilliant parts.

If you want something boohoo level sad though, then here have this

seriously the ending to this game was so well pulled off I contemplated my existence after playing.

Just editing my signature to say that my behavior on here was cringe. I don't regret the friends i made but man i was cringe here

It is raining. Your best friend is dying. You're running for her life, to try to save her. Nuff said.
Really, the only competetion is Enclosure from MGS1.

^^^^^^^^^^^

Saddest moment in gaming history right here.

The feeling I had after this... was amazing. It gives you that angsty feeling in the pit of your stomach.

The story is the reason Dead Space 2 is hands down my favorite game of this generation. Best internal struggle of a character EVER.

Never played a Dead Space game. I am going to start from the first one and work my way up. Also, as a notice to everyone on this thread, try not to leave open posts of spoilers. Hide it behind a spoiler tag

This song really made you feel sorry for Adrian Andrews in Phoenix Wright: Justice for All. Godot's theme can be really sad as well, but I'm not going to spoil anyhting about that for the people who haven't finished the series.

That is a very, very good question. After weighing out about twelve different games, I settled on this one as the most emotional. (spoilers ahoy)

Sonic Adventure 2: Battle

The perfect music to compliment an already outstanding story - a life form created from artifice, taught the ways of morality through restricted love; and sacrifice in united strength of will against Gerald Robotnik's world-threatening ARK.

Shadow the Hedgehog, who was created by Gerald Robotnik as a weapon for immortality, caused Gerald Robotnik's research space colony ARK to be stormed by militarised personnel deeming Shadow to be a danger. All researchers aboard the colony were killed, including Gerald Robotnik's granddaughter Maria - before Shadow was ejected from the colony in a space pod, he heard Maria give him her wishes to use his life to help humanity, rather than use the military dispatch as a means of hatred - and then she was killed.

Now, once Shadow was awoken a long time later, on Earth, by Ivo Robotnik (also known as Eggman) Shadow was torn between following the wishes of Gerald Robotnik whom he owed his existence to, and following the wishes of Maria whom he loved. Choosing to follow Robotnik's (it was thanks to Eggman that he was awake, plus he was angry at the humans for killing Maria) he worked with Eggman to gather Chaos Emeralds and activate Gerald Robotnik's vengeance weapon, the Eclipse Cannon (aboard the abandoned space colony ARK), which he made out of fury at the military for killing his granddaughter. Activating the cannon would potentially destroy Earth, leaving the one in its operation with complete control over the planet - but when they eventually managed to activate it, it turned out that Gerald Robotnik had set up its operator to send the ARK to impact, and destroy, Earth.

So as Shadow stayed on the ARK and watched it head closer to Earth, conversion attempts from Amy Rose (a member of the opposing team) suddenly reminded him of what Maria actually wanted him to do - help the humans, not exact revenge. He used his tremendous power to cease the ARK's collision course - but was knocked out from the exorbitant energy, falling to Earth and dying but ultimately happy that he could honour Maria's memory.

In short, Shadow defied his lifelong ethics and wishes for the greater good, sacrificing himself so that an inferior race may prosper. The music in the very last scene of the game is the most incredible testament to that. Sayonara, Shadow the Hedgehog!

And then they brought him back and gave him guns. Not saying Shadow the Hedgehog was a bad game, but it is interesting how they decided to go about Shadows return. He was suppose to only be in SA2 but the fans wanted more.

I do think Shadow the Hedgehog was a bad game. Personally speaking, they should have left everything to do with Shadow at SA2B. That ending was just perfect. I do love the other actual Sonic titles though - Sonic Unleashed was great fun, as was Generations. Gameplay wise.

Sonic games are usually good fun. And I did like the story of STH, but the only reason Shadow was brought back was because of popular audience demand. That's how much people liked the character.
