mega thread Unpopular Music Related Opinions

It annoys me whenever someone says something isn't "real music" and makes up their own biased definition of it. Music is generally defined as a form of art that uses sound and silence as it's medium. As long as this applies to whatever you're hearing, you can't claim that it's not music (no matter how much you hate it >_>).

Have I mentioned that I actually like Skrillex?

Yes, thank you! Honestly, people need to just shut up...

It pisses me off when people generalize an entire genre of music and talk about it as if everything in it is the same... >.>

I've recently experienced the sad thing. I have another unpopular opinion. Wanna hear it? Well, I'll be blunt. Just for fun and because it will make epic contrast with the way I usually post xD

So... I don't care if musician is: homo/bisexual, black, white, purple, green or made of solid gold, I don't care if he/she is transexual or not, if that person is ugly or beautiful, if it's muslim, jew, christian or atheist, if I DON'T like that person's music I will say it. And no, blaming those aspects of that musician's appearance for my opinion is not right thing to do. In music I judge MUSIC, nothing else. Why do I mention it now? After being called few times "racist" for finding Conchita Wurst's (a'ka bearded woman's) performance mediocre at best. Why is it so hard to understand that my opinion is not based on being untolerant (I am fine with transsexual people), but on the fact that for me it was just more of uninspired mainstream pop music?

That does not mean of course that I am not harsh towards "stars" that act like spoiled kids (hello there, Bieber!) or opposite - I praise musicians who are nice for their fans (Porcupine Tree, I am sure fans of this band know what I am talking about). BUT their behaviour is other thing. I may not be a fan of musician's attitude but I may still like his music (Kerry King, ur a jerk!). Or I may dislike someone's music but yet I can love way they treat their fans (Lady GaGa actually treats her fans in great way for what she has my respect, overall it's great musician that just writes mediocre music, she REALLY can sing and write beautiful songs if she wants to, just check her old recordings).

But personality, behaviour, looks and music itself are things that I will always judge separately. So don't call me racist for disliking something. Neither You should call me homophobe because that is also just empty word without any meaning when used in this context. The end.

  • I Kissed A Girl by Katy Perry has the most obnoxious singing I've ever heard.

I'm a fan of both electronic and orchestral music!

Jazz is a great genre.

The Living Tombstone's remix of Discord is awful.

This popped up again? might as well put some more

Earl Sweatshirt can be on/over Eminem's level by the time it's all over.

There are some real gems in today's rap.

Nas > Biggie

the TRXYE EP is actually real good.

Drake is not in the top 10 of today's rappers.

Kill People, Burn Shit, Fuck School.

Woah, interesting topic.

I don't really like county, rock and metal. Same for pop, although there is almost no pop songs I dislike (even from Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga).

I generally prefer music without vocals.

Skrillex is my favorite dubstep (or brostep) artist.

Although my favorite music genre is electronic, I also like jazz and classic.

I will get so much hate for these.

Nickelback is not "the worst band ever," they have some decent songs, and that's more than a lot of bands can say.

Foo Fighters>Nirvana

Five Finger Death Punch (a band I don't particularly like) did a better version of "House of the Rising Sun" than The Animals (I still love both, like, a lot).

DragonForce did a better version of "Ring of Fire" than Johnny Cash. Period.

Oh God... I can already hear the mob....

Here are some unpopular opinions that I have.

All music is these days are either about Booty or just plain annoying.

Bruce Springsteen's earlier stuff from the album "Greetings from Ashbury Park" is better than his stuff from the 1980s or 1990s

I'm not a huge fan of a lot of 80's hard rock bands like AC/DC, Aerosmith or Guns N' Roses. They just feel sort of generic to me. I like 90's alternative and grunge a lot more.

Also. Modern music isn't THAT bad :wat:

Hmm, let's see.

-Lars Ulrich is an overrated douche. he's the reason why there's no bass on ... And justice for all.

-Charlie Benante is a very underrated drummer.

-Paul Bostaph is doing a fine job in Slayer.

-Exodus is the real first Thrash Band, not Metallica.

-Vinnie Paul is being immature to Phil Anselmo. Yes, Phil said derogatory things about DIme before Dime's death, and pretty much alienated the brothers, but Phil is trying to make things right and has been for years.

-Machine Heads Supercharger record is actually pretty kick ass. None of Machine Head's album can really be labeled as "bad"

-Anthrax tend to be pretty mean spirited towards their members. They kicked out their vocalist before bringing back Joey and lied about the reasons. They kicked out rob Caggiano. WTF man?

-Blaze Bayley was a good singer in Iron Maiden.

-I think Deathcore, Death metal & Black metal are more listenable, without the vocals.

-Trivium are a really good band.

-Bullet for my valentine have lost a few steps.

-Metallica's Black album did as much damage to metal music as Nirvana's Nevermind

-Metal fans are narrow & closed minded. If it's mainstream, if it isn't European, if it isn't old, if it isn't technical, if it doesn't have enough screaming, than it sucks.

That's all I've got for now

That's funny.  Last I knew, Nirvana never had any metal albums.

Ohh, right.  They don't, because they're grunge.

;)

---

My unpopular music opinions...

Hmmm...

  • Nirvana's best album is Bleach, their first album.
  • Linkin Park's new albums are not as good as their first 2 or 3 albums, because they changed genre.
  • Korn on the other hand never changed their sound, and their new albums are still as good as their old ones.
  • Adema was able to make their newer albums sound as good as their old ones even after switching vocalists.
  • Some remakes are better than their originals; some originals are better than their remakes.
  • Some covers sound better than the original, some don't.
  • Closed subwoofer boxes are better than ported/vented boxes for use in vehicles.
  • New music does not suck, you're just listening to the wrong genres for your tastes.

And, one last bullet for now...

  • Not everyone hears the same way, so using your own personal equalizer settings to change the amplification of certain frequency bands does not ruin "the original sound" of the music because what you hear with no EQ and what I hear with no EQ may not be the same.

That's all for now, folks.

Most night core sucks ether because they did a bad job remixing the song or it wasn't a good song to turn into night core in the first place.

  • 1 year later...

  • The Beatles are undeniably overrated. If you validly point out just ONE believable flaw about the Beatles they're fans will start raging at you. I'm swear there are people who worship those guys like they're jesus or something.
  • Dubstep IS music. I don't know why people say it isn't.
  • Repetitive music helps me focus on work.
  • Today's music DOESN'T suck. I'm sick of people who glorify past music to the point they become insane and go out on their way to bash others who don't have the same taste in music as they do. Honestly if people would just go deeper underground they'll find great modern music. There is more to today's music than Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj. Also, there was horrible music in the past too.
  • Everyone on the internet is talking about an EDM artist called Savant yet when I search him up on YouTube his songs are under 100k views. What? I was expecting him to be super popular since everyone mentions him. I listened to a few of his songs and they're OKAY, not the best.
  • I hate Folk music.
  • Anyone who says that EDM is talentless, tell me if you know how to do this:

I'm gonna spoiler this one.

The "classic rock" fanbase is by far the worst music fanbase. They trash anything electronic and anything with harsh vocals, and then they refer to it as "just noise" or "this doesn't have real instrument". They refuse to listen to anything made after 1990, as if that's just the cut off year for good music. They're always whining about how "bad music is today", and they say stupid things like "Am I weird because I like AC/DC instead of Lady Gaga?" I mean, don't they ever just shut up?

YES! YES! This is exactly what I mean! :D

Savant's heralded as one of the most amazing producers simply because he's done every - single - genre, from metal to EDM, to rap and so on. He's extremely skilled and is poorly underrated. Even though you may hear many people talk about him, it's actually not that much. When compared with other EDM artists he's not nearly as talked of as much, he's underrated as evidenced by the views on his YouTube videos.

He's also an extremely efficient producer, pumping out albums left, right and centre with no degradation in quality. He's found a perfect balance between quantity and quality. This, accompanied with his ability to make every sound on the face of the Earth establishes him literally as a Savant of EDM.

- I think Metallica's new single is boring, overrated and Lars's drumset once again has crappy tone (I won't rant on his drumming skills, but they too need some polishing)

- Musicians should not discuss politics. Most often their opinions are nothing, but a cringefest and they always cause unnecesarry fights.

- I judge album by its cover, not only its content.

- I think guitarists like Michael Angelo Batio are boring and so is their playing style. Playing a guitar is not a race. It's an art.

- Remastered CDs are dreadful (with few exceptions)

- Ozzy Osbourne is definitely not some kind of metal superstar. The only good thing about him are musicians he is surrounded by.

- Metal music suffers from one of the worst fanbases. Especially black metal.

- 90% of "keyboard solos" are ridiculous.

- While some of Dream Theater's music is great some of their instrumental passages are pointless and silly.

- Opeth didn't lose anything by dropping their metal roots and harsh vocals.

- Anette Olzon or Floor Jansen did just as good job with Nightwish as Tarja. Different =/= worse.

- Band doesn't have to do something new to be good. Taking a road someone has taken before is better than trying something new just for the sake of being innovative.

- Autotune isn't a sin when it's not overused (translation: when a person can actually sing or when it's used for artistic purpose)

- There's nothing wrong with extended scale guitars in metal (8, 9 or even 10 strings). Nobody tells You to listen to them. For me 8 strings are enough, but I don't complain about people who have more.

- Lyrics about sex, parties and being "cool and trendy" should be burned along with people who wrote those.

- It's better to specialize in one specific musical style than learn all of them and be average in all of them due to lack of focus.

And many, many more
