I gotta admit....I do find the Idea of Grown up guys going to the teather where its supposed to be filled with little girls hilarious.

 

I little girl goes into the teather all exited about watching a my little pony movie, she buys her ticked and gets into the teather only to find the whole place filled with over 18 year old dudes, the girl looks at her dad and says "Daddy....are we in the right teather?" OOOOHHHhhh someone needs to record or take pictures of that.

Well it might be a bit odd, that is assuming any girls will end up going, I guess it'll happen.

 

I won't be attending it being a closet brony, but it could be a little strange I guess.

 

That said I don't think we should worry a whole lot.

I'm giving Cracked credit in this one that at least makes it clear that not all bronies are creeps and even painted us normal, harmless(if overexcited) fans in a sympathetic light, the author did everything but outright apologize to us for what we have to go through from vocal minority.

I think it has the chance to go really well and subsequently really viral. If Bronies begin exhibiting the traits that they should do and be in friendly spirits, you could have a really great atmosphere at the EqG premiere  A news story where genuine masses of grown men are actively enjoying a kid's show? Loads of hits, I'm predicting.

 

That is assuming that those pessimists looking on do not instantly start claiming "Pedophiles! Begone with you!"

I want to see the movie in the theater.  But I am not sure if I will, for the reasons that this article mention.  I don't want to be seen as some weird guy going to a little girl movie.

Funny thing is that EqG is supposed to be for *teenagers*, not little girls. At least according to Hasbro's own statements. This movie is not for the current demographic, but an attempt to expand the demographic.

Ok, Cracked was REALLY biased there. Sure go ahead and mention the guy who is going to marry Twilight Sparkle doll and the rule 34 stuff ( which is practically everywhere in every form) but not a mention of the lighter and productive side of the brony community.

 

Also it's just Twilight ( and Spike apparently) that go to the other universe. Everyone else seems to stay behind for some reason.

This^^ I remember reading some where that Hasbro said that Equestria Girls was targeted for an older audience (teenage girls).

I am glad that they try and point out that there are more than just the creepy bronies...but in the next breath, they talk about ONLY the creepy bronies. :/

 

Not exactly making us look good. And the movie is not aimed at little girls, it is aimed at teenage girls. Hasbro's own words. Not that it makes much difference in the overall point of the article...but still.

But all in the same, they wouldn't put PG13 stuff in there. Like everyone else is whining about, I can't help but agree that it does look like all of those Bratz spinoffs and high school girl shows that came from a doll franchise. And, of course, young girls get these dolls.

I don’t think it’s really such a big deal.

 

I can see why people might think it’s creepy, but for one thing, I’m sure any children there would have a parent or guardian with them possibly dads and maybe other bronys so it wont be just one guy,and nobody would have anytime to wonder about some guy whose watching a 'girls' film because they’d be too busy actually watching the film, and it's not likley you'd see any of them again.

 

But yeah I can see why people might think it seems weird

I disagree to an extent. It seemed like the author was going easy on us, but then out of nowhere the porn and the whole guy getting married to Twilight Sparkle thing comes up, and neither of those has anything to do with how awkward the experience is going to be. I don't even get why they were relevant to the whole thing, but I know this is Cracked and this is the norm from them. I have been reading Cracked for a long time so I kind of expect authors there to randomly dig up stuff to either get laughs or get hits, although I've stopped reading recently because their articles don't really interest me anymore.

 

Regardless, I'm probably not seeing this in theaters anyway, but I will say that any Brony who does go has guts, and lots of 'em.

If Hasbro really is serious about breaking into the teen demographic with the MLP franchise, they're going to have to do PG13 stuff eventually. The teen market is going to ignore anything less. 

 

I doubt Hasbro will, to be honest, because I don't think they *are* serious yet. Historically, Hasbro has been really bad at gauging the teen market; what few successes they have being pretty much accidental. And every time they do, they slide rapidly back into child marketing in what honestly appears to be panic and confusion. They've done pretty well with MLP so far, with their new licensing practices (Hot Topic, WeLoveFine), but EqG is going to be the big test. Did they stick to what they said, and aimed for the teen market, or have they played it safe for their existing pre-teen/young child markets?
