Ponies "Perfect"?

(edited)

I see some Bronies claiming Ponies are "perfect" and are better than any race in existence like us Humans.

Really, there is no such thing as the perfect race.

Maybe Pony their lives are happier than ours.

An extreme example of a race who they think they are perfect: The Reapers from Mass Effect.

Reaper: We are the harbingers of your perfection!

Are the Ponies as successful and old as something as the Reapers?

Reapers aren't perfect either, sure they are near perfect killing machines, but they a bunch of unreasonable, egotistical, non negotiable, merciless, lunatics that have been committing galactic genocide on all sapient races across the Milky Way Galaxy for the last billion years in what they call 'the harvest'.

Not the most friendly race to have a conversation with.

Canon Ponies (non fan fiction) wouldn't stand a chance against something as powerful as the Reapers.

And neither would we.

Unless we stand united with Pony, Human, Zoidberg, ManBearPig and other Aliens, we may have a chance to defeat something like the Reapers, if we come up with a few good ideas before they kill us all.

Truly you know what your talking about if perfection is almost non-existent.

It is true ponies aren't perfect, but all time fans will shout that out because of how much they love them.

There's also many examples left to explore like the ones you mentioned, but overall, nothing is beyond perfect.

Ponies aren't perfect, it's a cartoon for Christ's sake, I don't really see a point in getting out of my way to say that they're perfect, it's a cartoon, not a religion. I don't see the big deal about it.

Perfection, true, absolute perfection is impossible. But I would agree that the ponies are probably better than Homo Sapiens Sapiens. They don;t seem to suffer from many of the problems we do.

Pefection is subjective. There is no objective perfection.

I see it this way:

To admire something, you have to be able to relate to it. And the most relatable things are flaws because they make things more natural. That's why we all here like the ponies. In some way they remind us of ourselves or have characteristics we'd like to have. They are not flawless.

Just like ourselves, but the way they are flawed is something that appears to be less flawed than our reality. When someone says they are flawless... Well, actually I've never read something here that stated that. All I read were posts that simply said that the ponies are less, or at least in a more "comfortable" way, flawed then many humans are.

So, if someone says they are at least more perfect than we are, that their society is more perfect than ours, they simply found something that matched their subjective concept of perfection. Things are not perfect on their own. They are perfect from our point of view.

I think the perfection of ponies depends of if you're talking about the society or the ponies themselves. The society seems pretty utopian, but the ponies themselves have issues just like humans. Characters like King Sombra prove that. ((Thinking into this too much...))

Is that a quiet jab at John Silver from Treasure Planet? *suspicious*

Also, as for ponies being perfect, I think they largely get this reputation due to Celestia. But we have seen ponies capable of nastiness and general meanness, if not outright cruelty and hatred. So I wouldn't think they're perfect at all. :D

Theres no such thing as perfection, for in every episode the Ponies learn a new lesson. whoever thinks this really needs to get their head out of the clouds.

.....Unless they can draw a perfect circle, freehanded. Then they can be the perfect race

Pefection is subjective. There is no objective perfection.

There are a lot of things that are subjective, perfection is not one of those things. To be perfect is to be flawless.

People just use it incorrectly.

Now this guy's right, phrased it differently then I would though. When someone claims that the MLP ponies are just little balls of perfection, they're wrong. They're as far as perfect as you can get. They're still fallible, this show is based around the idea of learning lessons to better yourself. And if you need to better yourself, then you're not perfect, are you?

@@Mzukiller, But nothing is flawless from an objective point of view. Therefore perfection would be a logical paradox. What someone considers as perfect in the true meaning of the word is simply impossible.

I don't think their perfect, and i think alot of people probaly don't either.

That said, their world and the ponies in general seem to be nicer then a good bit of society, plus their adorable, which is probably why people want to be ponies or be in equestria.

Perfect is kinda a subjective word in a way, and a perfect race or society is technically impossible with all different people having a different ideal as to what that is.

Besides, a perfect society would be really boring kinda :P, as weird as that sounds.

I don't think that the reapers are a good example. They are powerful, but ME3's ending made them sound like broken machines to me.

In the end it's about what do you want them to do. Do you want them to destroy everything because it's the only thing they know how to do, then yes, the reapers are better. Do you want friends? Your chances are better with the ponies.

Of course I, myself, never said that ponies are perfect. Just that I'd rather live with them than with humans. This is biased by my own experience with other humans and how I perceive the ponies... Besides the fact that they don't really exist and I can't live with them anyway. But then again, neither do the reapers.

And by the way, we are not sure that the ponies would be so easy a prey for the reapers. The reapers are based in our own world with the added element of the future and mass effect technology. We don't know how magic interacts with any of that.

For dumb, self-important fics about mythology, ponies and fascist griffons that can't figure friendship out.

And I'm just getting started.

Even the idealized version of the ponies that we see in the show are far from perfect. We saw racism in Bridle Gossip, numerous examples of bullying from Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon. The CMC spread rumors about the entire town in Ponyville Confidential and everypony enjoying the gossip until they themselves became the targets. We see imperfection even among the mane 6, Twilight has severe OCD and is often extremely anal retentive and can in some cases be very close minded and miss the big picture entirely. Applejack often lets her pride get in her way and can be extremely stubborn and set in her ways. Rainbow Dash is often brash, arrogant and boastful. Pinkie Pie does know the meaning of the term "personal space", Rarity can sometimes be very shallow and vain and Fluttershy has trouble even retaining the lessons she learned in the first place.

Ponies are, by no stretch of the meaning, "perfect." Really, nothing is. They too have flaws too, namely Rainbow Dash's ego and Twilight Sparkle's paranoia, and frequently make mistakes too. But of course, "perfect" to you is subjective; what you find "perfect", someone else might find to be less-than-stellar.

Equestria is hardly the kind of society that can be deemed perfect by any standards. While the society depicted in the show is what I believe the ultimate ideal, I believe it is so because it actually encompasses the imperfections any particular individual may or may not have. In some way, each episode covers real life issues people encounter when dealing with friendships. If Equestria was perfect, such problems wouldn't even arise. Perfection in and of itself is already boring to start with. One can emulate perfection but not without making mistakes and learning from them, which I believe is the whole point of the show.

How the hell are they perfect? If they were perfect they wouldn't need to learn any lessons, they wouldn't have any internal problems (which they clearly do, just not as bad as ours), and to be honest, no one would like the show. I mean, who would want to watch a show about a world entirely populated by Mary Sues?

The reason MLP is so popular is because it is relatable.  No matter which way you put it, Ponies are just like humans on the inside. They have human emotions, they have human problems and they have human solutions. Sure, their society and their general mindset might be better than ours, but I'm going to hazard a guess that's more to do with their culture than their own psychological makeup.

Do you seriously think humanity would be in the 'mess' it is now if we'd been ruled solely by Gandhi for the past 2000 years?

The perfect world would be fictional as it doesn't exist. -me

I mean the only reason they are "perfect" is the fact they are fictional living in a fictional world. If you'd bring ponies to our world then watch as they adapt to be same as us and even their world without the binds of fictional writing would eventually have their own crimes and other things not to mention to quote the Joker "they're only as good as the world allows them to be" their world being perfect fictional world allows them to be perfect yet our world is different from theirs. Therefore they'd only be as perfect as our world allows them to be and you know before you know it the prisons would become stables haha.
