What are your camping Experiences? (I'm a first time camper next week)

I've been camping several times before and honestly, I didn't have much fun. Sure, it was nice to get out and away from the house but mud kept getting into the tent and we'd always got rained on. Plus my Mom was super protective and it just made things less fun because I wasn't allowed to bike around or swim on my own. 

 

Not to mention, the lake near our camp site was so sandy and I ended up ruining my shoes in the sand but that was parshly my fault. The bathrooms are also gross and on the first night, I had to go outside because I couldn't find the one that was open during night time.

 

Then one time when I was in the lake, I got rained on and had to run to the locker room quickly. Turned out my Mom was washing all our other clothes and the pants I had brought with me didn't fit. Sooo.. I had to bike back to the tent with pants only half up and people stared at me.
