What do you think of the Oculus Rift? Do you think it'll be the next revolution of gaming, or is it just a novelty? I think it's a neat device with a lot of possibilities. A lot of people say it would be great for survival horror games, but I think it could also work for platformers.

I think it's just a novelty for gamers who just wanna play with a screen close up, not much else. Though I will admit, it is an impressive piece of work, it's probably not going to do too well in the gaming industry unless it has some major refinements.

Also, I came to this thread thinking of Kassidan from League of Legends.

Personally, I love it. You have to keep in mind that it is one of the first of its kind. When you view it from that prospect, it's really well made. I believe it will only do great for survival horror games as you stated, simply because it puts you right in the game. You don't have the ability to turn your head and look away from the screen. If you do, your character just turns his head, making it even more real. Here's an example of how it could work. Markiplier has one and horror games are his game of choice. This is how I think the Oculus Rift should be used.

Oculus Rift? It may be hard to make it popular. I did not have pleasure (or torture) to use it, but I'm sure gaming experience is entirely different. I'm not sure if I'd like it though, I did not even manage to "jump" on console, I was just awful at playing with pad. But enough, I am doing a bit off topic post here now. So- I think it's just sort of novelty. it won't become very popular, because as much as it can probably be great when playing a horror game (Outlast with this thing... ) it isn't good for any other games in its current form.

On it's own it may not seem like much, just a silly way to display things right? But you add a omnidirectional treadmill (Can walk in any direction without physically moving, virtrix omni) and some motion senstive controllers...(Razer Hydra and it's sucessor, six sense stem) and you have full on virual realty. YOU are moving. YOU are shooting the gun. YOU are jumping. YOU are reaching out for that box on the table, not your character, YOU. I'm super hyped to do all this!

I think it's probably hard to sell people on it until they've tried using it. From what I understand, they've made a big leap forward in terms of what people have previously done with VR gaming. Playing things like Portal, with lots of leaping about, can feel like a real thrill.
