Thoughts on Spike x Rarity (Sparity)

Its just a little crush, anyways their not even the same species. If anything I dont like it because it gets annoying to hear about.

 

Yeah, it's never going to happen in this show

 

to me it's just a silly crush a young boy has on a much older girl

Given the existence of mules in the show, interspecies relations probably aren't strictly taboo in Equestria as they would be in real life. That being said, Spike is a kid and Rarity is ...not a kid, so that relationship isn't going to work out. If you want to look at it realistically, by the time Spike reaches maturity, his puppy love would certainly have worn off and he probably won't be crushing on her anymore.

I still think someday Spike is going to make a huge mistake and give up his dragonhood for love. Kind of like a little mermaid theme where He gives up something major to be a Pony instead of a dragon and then it just doesnt work out with Rarity.

@Hiron: Indeed, I do hope we learn more about Dragons, especially Spike as the series progresses

 

@Silvadel: Maybe Unicorns are just naturally more drawn to romance then other types of ponies, must be that ancestral Unicornia bloodline, lol. And yes I agree as adorkable as Twilight is, she would probably either completely freakout or melt in a romantic situation.

 

In fact that would probably make for a pretty fun episode, Twilight commenting on how Spike's crush on Rarity is hindering his efficiency of his work or some such then later in the episodes falling for some colt or some such herself. Ahh the comedic possibilities... but ahh yeah i'm rambling.

 

Any who I just look forward to seeing how the writers develop Spike and the others as the series progresses, again I doubt outside of a series finale we would ever actually see Spike & Rarity hook-up but that doesn't mean the two can't share some heartwarming moments once in a blue moon during the shows run.

If you ask me Rarity see's him as just a little kid who has a small crush on her. If Spike does tell her how he feels about her, Rarity well just tell him that they are 2 different and it would not work well out well. I just don't see them ending up with each other.

None of the fans or the VAs found it creepy during SDCC 2012. In fact, most casual fans think its cute. No one ever questions Kermit and Ms Piggy or Roger and Jessica Rabbit. They're just fictional characters living in a magical world.

 

This I agree with, people like to overanalyze the wrong things when it comes to cartoons & fictional works in general IMO. In the end saying something can or can't work in a form of fictitious media, especially an animation is overall a rather silly thing IMO.

 

Given its part of human nature to over think things at times, I still don't see how Jessica Rabbit can stand up straight with those giant things on the front of her body, lol. Or how A Donky could have kids with a female dragon 50X his size, yeah its not even the dragon thing that makes me go wut? its the size, lol. But yeah, animations only limitation is the writer(s) imagination, *and for all ages shows standards & practices, lol* And it shouldn't be any other way.

 

Anywho BOT, yeah I support Sparity, because I like rooting for underdog characters like Spike.

Seeing as relational operands in the pony universe are MAGIC, physical limitations don't really preclude or limit anything unless the relationship is central or heavily dependent on physical interaction, such as sexual intimacy.

It is entirely possible that they could get into a platonic relationship for a very long time if they so desired, but the biggest counter-argument about its unfeasibility would be "cartoon logic".

 

I'm not a shipper but I do see the mindset behind the show-creators and their perspective on the matter.

I'm not really into that 'shipping' kind of thing, but when it comes to Spike and Rarity, they're just so cute together! I doubt that they'll be in a relationship together but I see it more of a little kid having his first crush.

It may not really work out, but it's possible.

 

Dragons have a MUCH longer lifespan. Well, I believe they do. Dragons ALWAYS have a long lifespan in shows and video games.

Spike has lived with Twilight ever since she was a filly, and yet he's still considered a "Baby" dragon.

So he has a LONG time to go. Rarity will be dead, and he will be the Hachiko of Equestria.

Age-wise, I don't know. Age is just a number, but it looks like they won't really marry if they really do get together.

 

We also don't know what's going on in Rarity's head.

Also, we don't know what's going on in Spike's head, too.

 

I don't think Spike's done anything flirty or self-less to a huge extent for Rarity for a while, now that I think of it. Especially after Secret of My Excess.

I don't really think it's weird or anything. Look at it this way.

You, or someone you may've known, as a younger kid, may have had a crush on a teacher or something. It's not like it gets serious, but you've also seen (I assume) other cartoons where a younger kid has a crush on an older person, such as a teacher or celebrity. Rarity is a celebrity to Spike, that's basically how he views her. He's her biggest fan.

 

Now, Spike is a dragon . . . by the time Rarity is like 80, he'd be 13 or 14 in dragon years, possibly. I assume this due to the fact that he's younger than Twilight since she hatched him; she was anywhere between 5 and 8, I'm assuming, at that time. We can guess that she's roughly anywhere between 17 and 21 now, and Spike is still a baby dragon. Not a young or toddler dragon, a baby. So 60 years from now, he may not even be a teenage dragon. . . A heartbreaking situation, holding onto love for such a short time. Assuming it's been approximately 10 -12 years since Spike was hatched, and he may only be a "year" old in dragon years.

 

If a dragon and a pony (a unicorn at that) were ever able to reproduce, the results would be interesting, but sterile. Like a mule.

They're called Half-Dragons. It has happened before in alot of fantasy settings. In fact, D&D has a handbook about them that is 2cm thick.

 

I don't think it WILL happen, given the target audience. But at the same time, I wouldn't really be all that shocked if it did.

I would think given the target audience that would INCREASE the chance of the two ending up together, little kids probably root for spike just as much as some of we bronies/pegasisters do. And I'm sure a little girl doesn't question it as much as we cynical teens and adults do, lol.

 

I mean I would think a show as positive & sincere as MLP would want happy endings for its characters, but hey thats just me.

 

But hey i'm a non-lineaer thinker, so yeah.

I was thinking about how it would be if a relationship between Spike and Rarity were to actually form in the show, and then I realized something. Wouldn't it be really weird for them to be in a relationship, considering Spike is a baby dragon and Rarity is an adult pony? I mean not only are they completely different species, but they are at completely different levels of maturity. Wouldn't it be a bit strange for these two to be together? What do you guys think?

It has always struck me as fairly bizarre due to the age/maturity difference. I suppose you could argue that dragons mature at a different rate and when they are both older it could work. I'm not the hugest fan of shipping Spike in general, although I have read some good Spike shipfics by Mallajong1. I guess if I had to ship Spike with anyone I'd ship him with Sweetie Belle.

If they do end up together he actually would eat her just in slightly more rule 34 way if you know what I mean. It is very unlikely it will happen but if it does since Spike is a dragon and dragons live much longer than ponies do Rarity could pass away before Spike even reaches puberty for all we know.

Ok, I can't see Spike ever eating Rarity, regardless of how old/big he became. He's a dragon, not a monster. And can we try to support or detract from the ship with evidence from their personalities rather than trying to discuss the specifics of Dragon/Equine reproduction? Barf.
