Oh yeah there are, of course, no official obligations in The Alliance, but most AJ fans have Rarity is a second and most Rarebear fans have Applejack as a second.... So the voting will happen naturally until they meet up in the finals,

Welcome back to the party that is the 2014 MLPF World Cup, here with BSPN! I'm your host, Sterling Crimson! Today, we are witnessing three lopsided matches in Groups D and E. Not surprising given that you have tough competition featuring the Sun Princess, Element of Generosity, and the Queen of Derp! At this rate though, there will be another three characters who will be eliminated in the Group Stages: the losers of today's matches!

 

Well, enough of that. We're hoping for some tighter matchups tonight as the competitors of Group F and G get set to play their second matches tonight! Both Granny Smith and Twilight Sparkle have a chance to qualify for the Round of 16 if results go their way with regards to the other game, Vinyl Scratch and Soarin!  A lot is at stake in Group F, and the situationals can vary a lot depending on the result! Who will utilize this open chance to take a hold of Group F? 

 

As for Group G, we will get to see whether the human pony Lyra will bounce back against the Lord of Chaos. After a tough, tight loss to Big Mac in her first game, Lyra  is looking forward to bounce back with a much needed win. Otherwise, well... let's say Lyra's World Cup life will be on the line if that happens.

Looks like I'm going with the popular opinion again in today's matchups, as I voted for Princess Celestia, Rarity and Derpy.

The only matchup that I actually had to think about was Derpy vs. Spitfire, as I do like both characters. It's tough to vote against Derpy though, even if she's stuck in a more reduced role than I (and I'm sure many others) would like.

As for the rest of the competition, Rarity over Sunset Shimmer is a no brainer, as is Princess Celestia over Bulk Biceps.  Derpy should clinch a spot in the Round of 16 after today, but nothing's guaranteed until it's all said and done, so get out there and keep voting for Derpy everypony!!!

My initial reactions to tonight's matches:

 

Twilight v Granny Smith? Blowout in favor of the Friendship Princess.

 

Soarin v Vinyl Scratch? Blowout in favor of the Wub Wonder.

 

Lyra v Discord? Tug-of-War.

 

As I think about what has passed so far, Granny had a strong show of support from Apple Family fans, but barely nudged out the Wonderbolt. Twilight has a lot going for her though and I expect her to take a substantial number of the votes.

 

Soarin put up a great fight against the Apple clan leader. He may just have a surprise for us in this round, but Vinyl has a lot more fan-made material that I've seen floating around the interwebs. This is a little surprising for me because many have used character development on-screen as a means of determining their votes: Soarin has had speaking roles and has influence with Rainbow Dash etc, but Vinyl has only made cameos and has not said a single word, yet she's the one with the following. Fandoms are interesting things indeed!

 

My personal feeling is that Discord would just dominate, but that's because he has been my favorite Villain, Anti-Hero, Antagonist, whatever you want to call him. But that's pure bias. Lyra, like Vinyl, seems to have a strong connection to the fans so that will play in her favor!

I just don't care for any shipping at all. That one has always made sense to me though.  -_- Poor Champ! haha At least he doesn't have to deal with the 60 notifications/hour as has happened to me a few times when you Rarity and AJ fanatics get going!

Were they ALL from just the WC? I had actually turned off all my notifications temporarily for the fan clubs and other threads I follow so I was only getting them from here! One of those days I had 66 in one hour while I organized the welcome! (I think it was during the Celestia v Scootaloo bout)
