Would It Have Been So Bad For Dashie To Join The Cloudsdale Team?

As has been said in prior responses, it would really rely in the episode being done differently.

In Rainbow Falls, the Wonderbolts were shown as absolute flankholes. No matter what Rainbow had done to handle things, given their portrayal in the episode, it would've automatically felt unpleasant for them to get their way. They didn't DESERVE Dash. Honestly, they didn't deserve Soarin.

But that aside, there's practical analysis to go through.

It would definitely depend on how she went through with it.

The way she was cutting practice to train with the Wonderbolts without at all informing her friends about anything, THAT was not the way to go. If she went with that all the way and chose to completely abandon them with little informing of what had been going on prior, no, it would not have been acceptable.

The thing is, I really don't think Fluttershy even wanted to be in the games, and Bulk wasn't cut out for it in the first place. If Rainbow had come clean and said she was unsure at some point prior, I bet they would've gladly given up the games to let her go for the Wonderbolts. I mean, even if Bulk DID want it, he doesn't seem like the guy to take it too hard.

What they did with the episode wasn't the best to begin with, and resolving what they did with Rainbow joining the team would have been downright DESPICABLE.

The series has defined the Wonderbolts as the best of the Pegasus. To be the best would normally require a specific mindset which generally is focused on self above the rest and things that conflict with the goal of being the best is seen as obstacles/inhibitions.

In the end, only Rainbow Dash has to make Rainbow Dash join the Wonderbolts. Her friends can't help her acheive her dream except short of cheering. It would cheapen her dream if someone else like Celestia put her in.

I think it would have been fine for the mane 6. Fluttershy and Bulk Biceps understood that they were only qualifying because of Dash, and wouldn't hold it against her if she wanted to go for the win with her life-long heroes. Twilight guilt tripping Dash toward staying gets more irksome the more I think about it. Sure the others would be out of their support team jobs, but is that really so bad? Don't they have lives of their own?

What makes the conflict interesting is that it wasn't really about Dash being loyal to her friends, it was about Dash teaching Spitfire and Fleetfoot to be loyal to Soarin. He was pretty upset about being ditched, so yes, I think it would have been pretty crappy for Dash to take his spot after she found out he was fine.

I'm with the it wouldn't have been bad. I think flutters and bulk would have been alright with it. I actually think the only one who would have been upset would have been Twilight

From what I've seen from the Wonderbolts in the episode with Spitfire and Fleetfoot being out of character and trying to woo Rainbow into joining them into flying for Cloudsdale since they tried to keep Soarin in bed-rest fro his recovered sprained wing, it would've been downhill for Rainbow because while she is loyal to her friends, her overwhelming desire to fly with the Wonderbolts, in MY mind, would've been nasty.

I mean, what happened to Rainbow and the Wonderbolts lately? They've been in and out of character during the whole episode and at season 3 with Wonderbolts Academy even though it's Merriweather Williams' best episode and I'm starting to question their character as well as Rainbow's loyalty. For me, it's a win-lose situation for Rainbow, she would fly for Cloudsdale alongside her idols but that meant abandoning her friends for her own wants and needs.

Rainbow Dash can be loyal to herself, she can be loyal to her friends, or she can be loyal to the Wonderbolts. The episode was wagging the finger at her for trying to appease all three loyalties at once.

Loyalty is showing to be the most restrictive and demanding out of the 6 elements while her character is naturally meant to be free.

Beautiful post. Thank you.

Twilight Sparkle played the guilt card on Rainbow Dash before leaving the decision up to her. She just goes off on the list of names with the aim of influencing Dash through guilt into sticking with Ponyville.

I think it would've been better if Rainbow Dash reacted more negativity against Bulk Bicep and Fluttershy's easy going since they weren't being serious.

I don't think making them lolly gag is the only good reason to back up Dash's decision to go to the Wonderbolts team seem more understandable.

I just don't think Rainbow Dash can say "We're here to represent Ponyville" and then consider joining the Cloudsdale team afterwards. Instead Rainbow Dash could've just been more rough on Bulk Biceps and Fluttershy to be more serious about it since it meant so much to her. It would've gave a good reason for Rainbow Dash to be so rash because meant so much to her.

Had it been an ordinary pegasus pony team from Cloudsdale, as I first thought and hope for, then no, but with the Wonderbolts representing Cloudsdale, then yes it would be an awkward predicament. Loyalty can be hard element to have, as some who has moved away many times, I can sympathize with Rainbow Dash, various regions and organizations would lobby hard to keep my father or me, everyone would like to have the best on there team, particularly sports teams or businesses, anywhere when competition can be fierce, the Wonderbolts didn't have to be in "Rainbow Falls" the writers did drop the ball on this one, it should have been a completely different Equestria Games team, and that would have made the story more believable, relatable and with a realistic conflict, despite this we must wait and see the pay off in the Equestria Games.

This would have been a better time to introduce other Cloudsdale RD associates. This show is really going to keep putting every outsider character who is associated with RD into a negative light. It's really in bad taste to have Rainbow Dash clashing with her supposed future dream co-workers.

Yes, it would have been bad and would have been out of character. Her element is loyalty. And plus it would be an even bigger accomplishment if she could pull out a win on the Ponyville team.

Probably already stated in other comments and videos but yeah the whole point of denying joining the wonderbolts was to show she not so focused on just being a winner anymore.
