Having been a disappointed Sonic fan since about 2009, I'm excited for a title for probably the first time. Not for the game, since I have no interest in a Wii U or 3DS, and I'm not buying a console for 1-2 games, but more for the show. Sonic X was decent, and I'm excited to see how Boom does, as it looks pretty cool right now.

 

 

As for the character models, I really like them. I think I like Tails' and Amy's upgrades the best out of anyone, and Knuckles model looks more like Knuckles should look like.

Whenever something is redesigned, I think there's always that belief that they're meant to look "newer and edgier". I don't quite see that with these guys - in fact, one huge problem I saw with previous iterations of Sonic was a complete lack of emotion other than a cocky "You're too slow!" face. The previous Sonic's appearance was all about looking incredibly super-cool, and having super-slanted eyes and a long "streak" of a face to match.

I think the addition of a number of the clothing pieces is meant to offset the amount of pure blue on him. That kind of appearance, for instance, goes very well with ponies because they're meant to look cute. If you look at a toddler's room, big swathes of bright colors are common. I'm not saying Sonic is really meant to look "super-srs", as they didn't exactly give him scars and an eyepatch, just that "cute" isn't quite the direction he should've been in. I can't really argue with the points people are making about the sheer *amount* of tape/bandages, but I didn't even really notice it at all until people pointed it out.

 

Finally, a blog on Kotaku actually pointed out that a lot of the reason for Knuckle's huge size is only noticable once you see him animated. When he was a short stumpy thing that looked like an odd red Sonic clone, his punches looked pathetic. When he climbed up a wall, he seemed like he was kinda cuddling it, and his climbing animation was always looking like it should have gone 1 foot a second, instead of 2 meters a second. His movements are very much based on his claws, and that needs a wide swing to look good.

I like Knuckles's design. The bandages make him look like a boxer, which fits his character.

The game looks pretty good to me actually, the new character designs are admittedly a bit weird though... but not terrible, imo anyway.

As long as the game's good, which is not always a guarantee with Sonic games but this has new developers so we'll have to see.

TBH one thing I'll never understand.. Why does Sonics stalker always get to be part of the games/shows?

no seriously.. Amy is his stalker and self proclaimed interest.. how is this character enjoyed? I mean, aside from the shorter than short skirt and easy up shots that japan loves, being her only real things besides stalking and a giant hammer..

 

Or has she evolved beyond the original annoyance she was? I really haven't paid much attention to her I must admit.

I actually kind of like tails' redesign, the idea of his goggles and toolbelt was a nice addition. But oh man, Knuckles, what the heck did they do to you!? That design is just... why?... I know what they're trying to achieve, but I feel that they really missed the mark.

My friend has been wigging out over this game. He can't decide if he loves or hates this game but he wont stop talking about it. He's by far the biggest sonic fan I know so it's always funny when a new game/tv series is announced from it. I get to hear every last detail!

Jesus, it's like they heard the fans complaints about how his legs are too tall now and thought it'd be funny if they stretched them out even more to fuck with them. It's never been a huge deal but I like his old stubby legs; the eyes I couldn't care less about but long legs just look weird on him. I guess it's not too big of a deal, though and that only leaves me with one last complaint of WHAT THE FUCK DID THEY DO TO KNUCKLES?!?!?!?!?!   You might read the all caps part as rage but it's really just very strong confusion, I really don't know what they where thinking.   

 

Also, can they please just call him Robotnik again? I think I did hear somewhere that it was a Princess Toadstool-type situation where they changed his name in America and changed it back to what it was supposed to be originally but I've always liked Robotnik better. It's not even nostalgia or anything, I never really liked Sonic as a kid and I think he was called Eggman most of my life anyway but, I just still think it's a dumb name and that Robotnik is cooler.

My very first thought upon seeing the artwork: "What's with all the bandages. They must be out in the dunes or something"; not too far off  . Amy and Tails look fine, Sonic's not too shabby either, but Knuckles... You know, I get that Knuckles is supposed to be the strong one and I might not have minded if Knuckles was originally this big, but right now he just looks very strange to me.

 

I'm not much of a Sonic fan, but I am kind of curious as to how the game and show will play out.

I'm going to try to be very calm when talking about Sonic Boom. I don't mind Amy, Tails, or even Robotnik's redesigns, but to me, it looks like Knuckles took an overdose of steroids and sonic uses this special spray that helps you grow hair on your arms. It could go nice without the bandages too. But the blue arms, man, that is going to take a while to get used to. I think they just did it to make animating easier. If any of you have seen the old sonic cartoons, they had issues with coloring his arms a lot of the time, and ended up making them blue in many scenes.
