You haven't lived until you've seen something like this.

50 planes flying over a NASCAR race sponsored by CNBC and small business in the Southwest to the national anthem. Can't get more 'murica than that.

Epic trumpet player. I guess I haven't lived yet! The most amount of planes I've seen in a fly by is 3 or 5 at a race or patriot's day football game.

On some days, I can see planes on approach to T. F. Green Airport from my college. Well, a lot of days, actually. I'll try getting a photo of it soon.

Eh, I think of flying as a mode of transportation; that's about it for me. Still, my house is in the "line of flight" from the local airport, so airplanes fly over my house almost every day. It's pretty cool to watch them!

I wouldn't mind that. It's kinda cool when you hear planes buzzing by your house. I've been on the flight tracker long enough to recognize which flights are flying by my house by the sound of the plane :P.

Oh... 239 people? Oh dear... this ain't good indeed.

Hopefully...I'm not sure what to say. Maybe a faulty radio? Always hope for the best and expect the worst, if that makes any sense.

Always wanted to be an air force pilot, I have always loved being around jets(hence Pegasus), but alas, they won't let me in on account of my poor vision. I want to go to school to be an aircraft mechanic, I have a tiny bit of experience...if building a gas turbine engine in a garage counts, it took me two months to build and another week and A half to get it to work properly (first few runs it only kicked on once out of the first seven tries) then it took another three months of tweaking to get it to self sustain, one of the proudest moments of my life was hearing the whine of the first successful start.

I know 1 person who's interested in flying and has planes as his background, but I can't even walk on a plane without worrying but then end up sleeping. xD

Sleeping on a jet is half art, half science.

Or something.

As a passenger, sometimes you get lucky, and the flight isn't very full.  If you can stretch out across five seats, you're golden.  Depending on the size of the crew and the length of the leg, the pilots sometimes take turns sleeping.  One flies, and the other rests.  Every organization has policies that limit the amount of time the crew members can sleep like that, but it happens (legally) all the time.

One extreme example is the B-2 crews who have flown combat missions in excess of 40 hours.  The crew is just two pilots, so they have to take turns sleeping (interspersed with 7 air refuelings and various combat engagement).

Yes. I typically play the American forces and can land everything but the B-25 Mitchell. For some reason it always explodes when its wheels touch the ground.

The B-25 has a tricycle landing gear configuration (unlike most aircraft of its era, especially fighters).  If you try to land it like a tail dragger, you'll break something.  In reality, you would simply over-stress and possibly collapse the nose gear (which *might* hurt/kill someone), but it wouldn't cause the whole damn thing to explode.

Usually I land it right (I know how to land a tricycle landing gear plane) but upon the main gear touching the ground, even at 73 knots, they instantly collapse, then the flaming wreck of my B-25 goes sliding across the ground before coming to a halt a few seconds later.

I tried recording it too, but it actually landed right on-camera. wtf.

I never tried bombers in that game, but here are some things to consider:

Does the game take the aircraft's current weight into account during takeoff and landing?  If so, some heavy aircraft can take off at a certain weight, but can't land until they've reduce that weight (whether through burning off fuel, dropping bombs/payload, etc).

Is your rate of descent within limits?  That is, even if your speed, configuration, etc. is correct, if you're hitting the ground in a 1,000 ft/min descent, you're gonna break something.

Usually, when flying a bomber, I drop the bombs before beginning my approach to reduce weight. As for my rate of descent, I am not 100% sure what it is, but I have it under good authority that it is well below 1000ft/min. I'll check later. Every other plane I have no problem landing, including some heavy bombers. It's just the Mitchell I can't land for whatever reason.

Yeah, but it feels better for me if I just don't overthink and sleep so I just can say to my self before I sleep that '' When you wake up, you'll be landing safely! '', so no worries since I tend to go on long flights that can be either 1 hour till 18 hours, though it varies each year.

Or when you wake up (if you wake up), you'll be plummeting to your death! A 1 hour flight is not very long!

About this crash... there's been great suspicion that foul play has occurred, but no one wants to say... Debris has also been found... RIP to the 239 passengers... :(

I think so too. Looks like we've got another incident similar to AF447 :7.

They have confirmed that 2 passports used to get on the plane had been reported as stolen.

Yeah, but come on the chances of crashing are lower than ending up in a car crash, I'll probably be okay till next time.  ;)

It just happened to me, Southwest flight from MDW to LAS, last year. That's the first time I ever fell asleep on an aircraft. I missed the damn Rocky Mountains because of it.
