How do bronies compare to other fandoms?

Furries, that is about as low as it goes... I been one for almost nine years and I don't regret for a single second switching to the pony side of things. Its just drama and elitist keyboard warrior jerks who contribute nothing to society in general.

I was so hoping to see a thread like this would go without mentioning the furry fandom. Sighs

Well, there's: Beliebers, Directioners, and the Miley Cyrus fan base. And I do have one more, but I'll put it in a spoiler. If you can't take opinions, don't open it.

 

The Sonic fan base. Good God, even my best friend, Geek0zoid, says this fanbase is cruel. They do nothing but complain about who is the best character, rage on and on how they didn't like the last game, they give their I out, and when game designers add the fandoms ideas, they still aren't satisfied. I'm all for fans of Sonic, no offense to them, but God dang, some of the fans can be utterly annoying.

I would hope those of the Brony Fandom would have better sense and tack not to lump the Furry Fandom into the 'worse fanbases'. I happen to be apart of a number of fanbases myself: I am a Brony, a Furry, a Whovian, an... anime/manga fan, I haven't really had a chance to become an Otaku, a Roleplayer (D&D, Pathfinder, Warhammer 40k, World of Darkness, to name a few), a Disney fan, exc.

 

It is largely because of this I have seen the best and worse of the Furry Fandom and know as a whole it is not as bad as it is made out to be. At least not from what I have seen or been a part of.

Might get a lot of flack for this one, but Nostalgia Critic fans. The man himself is alright, even if I don't agree with some of his reviews, but his fanbase! By God they are an annoying bunch. "NC's always right and he's only out to make a joke except when I use his opinion as a legitimate arguments then NC is completely dead serious in what he has to say!" The hypocrisy makes my brain hurt.

Hetalia fans can be pretty annoying. Don't me wrong, I freaking love the anime/comics for Hetalia, however the fans themselves leave much to be desired.

 

I walked into a Hetalia panel at an anime convention last year and I was like the only guy in the room. It was just a bunch of girls (dressed up as the countries) swearing, and yelling loudly. Basically the panel hosts were all dressed up as countries, right? They were arguing, making out (for the shippers), and ect. It wasn't that fun of a panel. 

 

(Not saying ALL hetalia fans are like this. Just the few that I happened to see in that small, cramped panel room. Also, I don't care that the room was full of girls. I couldn't care less what gender the fans are. It was just a random thing about the experience that I pointed out.)

You mean the adult and sexual stuff? I would actually argue very much the Brony fandom has it worse, not only sexualizing a show whose target demegraphic is little girls, but shipping, the more the Grimdark stuff. Sweet Celestia, the Grimdark!

 

I believe the Furry Fandom cannot compare when it comes to the troubles many fandoms face involving shipping wars or conflicts, or the frustrating of seeing characters twisted into that which they should not be, and are not, anything like they are shown. Grimdark can get pretty nasty, and really I don't have as much of an issue with the sexual side of the fandom as I understand the truth of Rule 34.

 

My only problem is when fans try to make the characters overly 'realistic', take for example fans insisting the sexual parts of MLP characters are realistic to that of horses and ponies. Or make unreasonable or unbelievable shipping/clop fictions. There is also the Naruto fandom which a friend of my left because of its problems.

That and really if we get right down to it the Brony fandom could be considered a branch off from the furry fandom even if many would deny it and point out that not all Bronies are Furries and not all Furries are Bronies.

As a furry, I would have agreed with you until I found a freakin' cub porn comic won awards within one of the fandoms major award thingies(don't ask, because I don't even remember how I found out at this point). We need to all get our collective shit together and boot the creeps.

I do believe I may have an idea of what comic you mean but I have a MLP fanfiction that tops anything I have seen anywhere else as horrible. What makes this worse is there was a nugget of astonishing pure gold buried in the disturbing filth involving the royal sisters and balance.

 

Starting with the fanfiction Rarity's Garden, the series Tarnished Silver by HamGravy continues with others though I believe the one I read through was Twisted: Four Little Foals

 

The description of the series as written by the author himself?

A thousand year old secret society, a kingdom built on lies, a misguided but deeply felt love, and the lives of four little foals. All of them will collide and change Equestria forever. And it will all happen with one little word. (Also, there will be lots of sex. Some of it gets kind of weird.)

 

It involves abuse and slavery of foals for the sick pleasure of a group calling themselves the Inner Circle, with Celestia allowing this group to exist, and Rarity who is driving the story by first taking Silver Spoon away from family, friends, and school so as to turn the foal into her personal sex slave. Then she takes Silver Spoon, Twist, Sweetie Belle (yes her own sister), and Pipsqueak to meet the Inner Order.

Sonic. Sonic The Hedgehog is one of the worst fanbases I've ever been a part of, and that's little more than saying "I like Sonic". They are so filled with hate for everything Sega tries, their OC's are somehow even worse than the pony ones. They're split into two factions from what I've seen: Genesis and Newer Games. The Genesis game fandom is pretty closed minded on a lot of things, including later video games. I joined a forum for Genesis collectors only to be met with hostility on the topic of Sonic Boom because I was excited to see what would happen to the series when Sonic Team wasn't involved (also because I'm not in my mid 20's to mid 30's). The people who are big on the newer games... I have little experience with them, but my base points still apply to them.

Yes, but at least it wasn't awarded by Bronycon(it's the only equivalent I think of) as best fanfic. That's what I'm yelling about, the fact it not only existed but was given awards by the fandom.

If you really read my posts, then you would be aware of the stereotypes, it is the furries that bring said stereotypes among themselves. I'm sorry but people don't just pull that shit out of thin air on a internet subculture, most people who dislike them experience family members fursuiting constantly and that tends to get out fast on the web.

 

Bronies are in no way connected to or part of furries, that is like stating Ford and American Motors are the same car company or Sealand making a colony out of the Soviet Union; while both fanbases share the same foundation, we have completely different skyscrapers that stand atop them. The only thing we have in common is the passion we display for anthro art, but even those who dwell on that are furries who transcended to the Brony community. Bronydom is a massive cultural empire a bit too complex to explain, while Furrydom is comprised mainly of imageboard sites that houses nothing but (borderline) porn and crappy fan fictions based on the Road Rovers franchise, and if you think Derpibooru is bad, you obviously never heard of VCL and Furribooru.

 

Do I also need to mention that bronies don't normally engage in acts of zoophilia? Unlike many furs who openly admit it on too many cases.
