 Yeah, 3 text wall posts really says how dedicated some people can be. This is an MLP board, so I will be posting my most recent thoughts on the fandom here and the only other thing I can say about your original post is that I knew there would be people using memes to take potshots at me. The replies I'm getting are the exact replies I expected.

Well to be honest mate, every single one of your issues with this fandom, can be found in humanity at large, and every sub group of people. So while your post may be correct, it is also both impossible to fix, and a near waste of time at complaining at others lack of effort on a fruitless endeavor.

Why does everybody take this show so seriously?

 

Why not? People take movies, video games, etc. seriously. Why not ponies?

 

 

 

I understand fandom and popularity but a 90 page statistical report on freaking bronies? and a 2 hour documentary? Then we get our own con - fine, that's great but there's a limit to this insanity. People are actually worshiping this show and wanting to make a pony religion. This is where I draw the line. This is proof of people seriously needing to be cut off from technology and getting lives. Of course there are several creepers who think they're married to ponies and go around threatening people about it, just of course.

 

Gaining new information is somehow bad? The brony fandom has grown at a tremendous rate and a documentary was needed to help explain what's going on to those who don't understand. And since when are people worshiping ponies? Even if this is true, the number of bronies who "worship" the show or the characters would have to be 0.000001% of the brony population.

It doesn't stop there either, there are plushies made specifically for boning the ponies and there are MLP fleshlights. This means that there are enough people out there who demand these products and they are selling well enough for them to continue to be sold. It's not just a matter of clopping to your pony porn that floods the internet anymore.

 

Rule 34. Look it up. It isn't only an MLP thing. It isn't only bronies doing stuff like this. And why do you care anyway? What people do in their private lives is of no concern to you if it isn't hurting them or others.

 

 

 

It's clear bronies don't understand copyright either because otherwise, they wouldn't be making such a big deal out of things being taken down. I'm sick of explaining this, I really, really am. If Hasboro were such a big, evil company wanting money as you say, why do you think they would remove something promoting them? That's right, obviously they had no choice or they'd lose their license to MLP permanently and we'd have no more FIM. However, I think that's what you guys want, as you send them death threats all the time. They have plenty of money to afford to just cancel the show. 

 

It isn't as simple as that. And once again, anyone "sending death threats" over a copyright violation is insane and isn't representative of even 0.01% of the community as a whole.

 

 

 

Then there's the whole social justice that bronies keep bringing up, how it's changing how the world views gender roles and such. Yeah, maybe it is but why does that mean people can't think you're a piece of crap fandom? You guys have your own social justice warrior bull going on and get irrationally mad at haters. Most people who don't like bronies or MLP are hated by bronies, it's very evidential with all the hater threads on this forum. 

 

People are free to have their opinions, but if you're being attacked for what you stand for, aren't you going to respond instead of just accepting the hate?

 

 

 

Furthermore, I have to view the newest MLP episodes the day it comes out or else I'll be bombarded with spoilers, so that's fun. Also, the fact that everybody hates the other gens is annoying. *Rolls eyes* I'm sure this'll just be locked and I'll be hated or banned for it. That would be the typical brony response. Bring on the memes, poorly constructed potshots, and video games references. 

 

Of course there will be spoilers on the newest episodes on MLPForums, the largest brony forum on the internet. Don't want spoilers? Watch the show as it airs or don't come here until you've seen the episode if it's that important. It's impossible to keep all members from not posting spoilers.

I agree with you on several points, especially the Hasbro copyright thing. I'm not that happy about it, but I understand Hasbro's side of the story.

 

As for the rediculous attention the Brony fandom gets, that's just because it's a little different from other fandoms and the media hypes up everything to rediculous proportions. Our time in the spotlight will fade.

Did you just ignore all the examples I gave? There has never been 90 pages of statistics, a 2 hour documentary, fleshlights, sex plushies. a dating site, or a whole language for one fandom. 

Except the furry and anime fandoms, just off the top of my head.  (And apparently Star Trek, according to Something Floaty.)

 

To be perfectly honest, your complaints seem to describe *the internet in general*.  People are going to be messed up in all kinds of ways regardless of what fandom they choose to associate with.  The only thing that seems to vary that much is how much attention is given to what parts of the fandom.

This isn't just in the brony community, yes it's stupid but its not just us.

Every fandom has a good and bad side. The best way to deal with this is to realize the fandom's flaws and work on fixing them rather than defending the flaws.

Simply put every fandom goes threw this. 20 years ago if you were super into Mario Sonic and comics people portrayed you as a sweaty pimply faced nerd. Now its ponys. Every fandom goes threw this and this one just seems so out of hand because of how fast it took off. The religion thing is wierd but again every fandom has their weirdo's simply put dont attack the whole thing when just a toe looks funky

Because you're not going to accomplish anything by waving your finger at us for doing things differently than you except irritate people. Let people do as they please. If it bothers you so much, let it go. Nothing good will come out of this sort of thing, only stuff that's bad.

The problem here is that you're assuming you're right. Why should we have to meet halfway when we disagree? And it seems like the majority is in disagreement with you here, mate.

With all due respect, I see from your profile that you are young, so this may be the first time you have seen a fandom as large, as passionate and as multifaceted as the one for MLP.

 

I am... not so young. And this is not my first time doing this. Not by a long shot. All the points you could bring up about MLP fandom - good and bad - have been done through the fandoms of many other television and movie and novel series' fandoms that get a large enough fanbase going. And yes, most of them have their fair share of different terminologies for sex and lonely guys hoping to get some from a pretty girl who shares the same interest. About the only thing that I can say makes the fandom for MLP unique compared to others that I have been in is that this one is the first truly large-scale fandom to have the benefit of the instant-communication era of the internet for dissemination of information on a rapid scale.

 

In short, judging bronies by whatever you perceive to be the worst of bronies is like judging the human race based on your opinion of the mafia. In any large grouping you are going to get a diverse range of opinion and interests, even when bound by a common interest, and the larger that grouping gets, the more likely you are to see others of like minds, whether you like where their minds are or not.

1.) I posted something in the "unpopular opinions thread" that very night, bashing anime and it's fans, saying I'm getting a bit irritated with how there's so much anime being posted on MLP forums.

2.) A spectacle was made out of it and I ended up writing an apology letter to someone.

 

3.) You got very sarcastic with me, even admitting so on the status.

 

4.) You constantly sport an anime avatar, saying that you watch anime. Given I said there should be less of it and it should be moved to an anime-based forum if it's going to be such a constant source of discussion, I most likely offended you.

 

Now, can you prove that you weren't aware of what I was talking about? A huge spectacle was made out of it. I find it hard to believe you didn't know, especially since you were on at the time, given you commented on my status.

Oh man.  Remember what I said about how the only major difference between fandoms is how much attention is focused on which parts of them?  All that stuff is there in the other fandoms.  Has been for years.  The fact you don't know about it shows that the spotlights are apparently ignoring those areas outside of the brony fandom right now.
