So. I have a confession that I was gonna post in Unpopular Opinions, and then the comics thread, and then decided to make a thread about it.

.

..

..

I like the comics a lot better than the actual show.

Don't get me wrong, I really LOVE the show.

It just gets away with so many things that the show couldn't and fleshes out the beloved universe we hold so dear to our hearts in a way that couldn't possibly fit in a 22-minute episode, or even a full-hour event (like exploring more on Queen Chrysalis' personality and what happened to her after A Canterlot Wedding). It's magnificently-written, it's clever, the characters stay truer to themselves than the show ever could (it's kinda wonky in FIM sometimes), the arcs are epic, there's actual continuity, and best of all, you can't even tell that the damn thing's source material is a toy line for little girls on account of how dark it gets oftentimes.

I also really love the art style of it. It's so unique to it and adds a whole different level of endearing to the franchise. I like how their tongues kinda stick out when talking sometimes. x)

A lot of people think it panders to the fans...well, yeah.

I am the fan they're pandering to, and I love every second of reading it. It's highly improbable (but not impossible) that the target demographic would read the comics.

All the little references, the fanon winks, the obscene amounts of Derpy...it was MADE for me!

One can almost conclude that that the comics were made by bronies, FOR bronies

At this stage in my Bronyism, when I first read the comics, I felt a joy and excitement similar to week-1 brony stage, and I'm curmudgeony as f*ck.

Friends, I implore you...

If, even for a split second, you ever considered reading the comics, do so. Now.

Here's a link where you can read them all, if even until you buy them physically.

If you're dirt poor like me or live in an area that the comics aren't available, even better.

Now you have no excuse.

Here's the god-send that is ChronoShenron, the person doing this out of the kindness of his heart.

Just look for the playlist that contains the comics.

You know I've heard about them and I've heard about them, but never read em.

But if it's anything as good as the Archie Sonic Comics are compared to the old Sonic the Hedgehog shows, then I'll give it a shot.

Yea, and not only that, but man, the ponies expressions also look so much deeper in the comics as well, when a pony is pissed they LOOK PISSED! :yay:

I have considered reading the comics, but I'm too impatient. I have tried to read many books and just one I've finished. Nope, reading is not my thing. Moving pictures is more mah thing.

They're even BETTER, and those things were great.

Then again, I may be biased, as I like MLP more than I will ever like SOnic. x)

>implying I don't just read the comics mainly, and just watch the show as a fun 22 minute commercial.

and best of all, you can't even tell that the damn thing's source material is a toy line for little girls on account of how dark it gets oftentimes.

Did you read that?

Both aren't commerical to me, I was talking abouyt how dark the comics can get.

I was referring to the fact that the show exists soully for the purpose of selling toys, and the comics I find more enjoyable due to their increased maturity compared to the show.

Ah. 'Spose.

I would like to see just ONE arc turned into an episode...but that will most likely never happen.

It's for the best, I guess.

I would love to see the nightmare rarity arc turned into an episode. But I do not think hasbro ever wants one of the mane six to loose their holy purity on screen lol.

Or a certain Rarity fan around here, for that matter. xD

DONT MENTION HIS NAME

THAT CAN ONLY LEAD TO AN INFLUX OF RARITY

I only love you platonically.

I am just gonna pretend it doesn't exist because I hate comics the chronological order is hard to follow when they go deep into a series.

I love the comics!!

  • The main series has some seriously awesome arcs, and artwork.
  • Friendship forever gives us some nice character interaction.
  • The Micro series gives us some great one shot character stories.

Don't get me wrong, the show is awesome. But the comics..the comics are amazing! :D

There's basically only two lines though:

The main comic series and the Micro Series/Friends Forever. The first one is serialized and the other one is just stand alone stories.

This is only the start but watch it will get sprawled all over and those who have been reading from the start will have a idea of read order all comic books do this all of them.

I have to say I'm a long time comic book reader and Andy Price is just an amazing artist. Everything he touches is gold. The other artists are pretty amazing as well and those storylines for the most part have a lot of good content going on. I too REALLY recommend them.

I have made brony music since 2011. I like all kinds of music and genres. I'm sure you'll like some of it..

I don't think liking a comic book series better than a show/movie is all that surprising or shocking. Take for instance any movie about superheros, you're never going to get the amount of story in a 2 hour movie that you can in a comic book that has been running for many many years.

I don't think people liking the comics better is all that new to MLP either.

It would probably surprise some people that G1 of My Little Pony had a comic book series as well. Unfortunately the comic series was not sold in the USA, the first time I heard of them was from a UK MLP collector. The stories from the G1 comic series that have been described to me are interesting and different from what was on the cartoon, where the ponies have much more in depth stories, history, etc. I just wish they had sold them in the USA.
