Should the CMC actually get cutie marks?

No. Not on my watch. I sort of like the fact that they work hard for cutie marks. I like the suspense that they build up with their cutie marks. It's a good mystery, better left unsolved. And if they ever get cutie marks, atleast save it for the series finale. Discuss.

I say no. At least not until the series finale. Their characters revolve around them trying to get their cutie marks, and after they get them, what then?

Who know's everypony maybe someday they will have an episode where they do get their cutie marks after all maybe Applebloom will do some special talent where her cutie mark can sense when the vampire fruit bats will come back or spy on flutterbat and Scootaloo special talent could be a meteorologist for the wonder bolts weather forcast and last Sweetie belle talent would be making pony cosplay costumes for everypony instead of a fashion show like Rarity or could be both you never know what Equestria may bring you in each of your happy pony hearts !

They have to get it eventually. After 4 seasons of them trying to get it, its starting to feel a little drawn out (in my opinion, of course). My best case scenario is that they get their cutie marks, but we continue to get CMC episodes.

The little fellas are going to have to get them eventually. I mean, it'd be a huge insult to them as beneficial members of Ponyville's society if they just never got them. Why? Well, every pony in the show that is grown up to any extent has a cutie mark (which is their special talent, right) so if they CMC never got their cutie marks, they'd look like they don't contribute to society in any special way at all.

Why would we want them to not find who they are as a person/pony so they can benefit themselves and the society they live in. But of course, it's just a TV show and they have to play out what they can to draw in people's attention. I'm saying if it was a actual situation that effected a main character in the show, then yes obviously get them their cutie marks as soon as they find out who they are. Because think about it, if Applejack was still searching for her cutie mark, how could she be a beneficial character other than the constant search for her cutie mark?

I'm not saying the CMC are bad, I'm just saying you can only play out something so long before it gets old. (Fluttershy is a great example of that...)

Yeah, it's okay now that they are still searching, but once they grow older they should probably have found out who they are. (Mostly because the show makes it seem every pony knows what they are when they grow older. That's the reasoning behind that remark.)

When it comes down to it, let them search now, jack around with it, but when it gets to the point where the ideas run down, just get them their cutie marks one by one. Not all at one time.

While I feel that the searching for cutie marks thing is getting overdone, I also fear the implications behind them getting their cutie marks.

If handled well it could mark a new era within the show.

If handled poorly it's the shark and it will have been jumped.

If handled when I would handle it, we won't see them get their marks until last season.

In almost any other show I'd say that it's going to be the shark, but FiM has some solid writers, so they may actually be able to avoid that shark (>50%)  And they may be able to keep from beating that dead horse (Flutters is an example showing that they may not be able to avoid the horse, but later CMC episodes have mostly avoided the flank issue [or at least severely skirted around the issue]..

Well, that depends. I enjoy CMC episodes and the work they invest in gaining a cutie-mark. It's because they show growth and expansion as characters, which is something i really like. But i don't know how long can this be dragged on without them having their cutie-marks.

Soon .....

^ My general feelings

Same for Fluttershy, but different topic.

I honestly would prefer to see them get their cutie marks, soon. Because it's getting so long an drawn out, (not entirely stale, because I agree with @@paradoxical,  they've managed to skirt the issue for a while, not so well with Fluttershy though)  I mean, maybe in the fifth or sixth season, reasonably (or slightly later depending on how they write it out).

I do want to see these fillies actually grow, mature and deal with changes. It would mark a substantial change, but that happens in life and it's to be expected as you get older.  And frankly, everything else in the show is actually moving in relatively reasonable pace. (Twilight's ascension, Rainbow Dash getting closer to being in the Wonderbolts, etc).

I'd love to see them get their cutie marks.  I fail to see how closing that story arch would end them as characters.  It's like saying that there's no other pursuit left for them after that.  That's absurd.  They'll always have fears and desires beyond that.  They are not so one-dimentional.

I'm sure we all know whenever Hasbro decides a final season, that is when they'll get their marks. Until then, NOOOO!!! I don't want any of them to get their marks by themselves. Then they wouldn't have anything to crusade

Either this:

Or they get them in the last season(s) of the show.

I hope they get their cutie marks this season, because I feel that arc has been dragged out for too long, and is getting repetitive. So, yes, please DHX, just give them their marks already. Not to mention, it would make for some good character development. You have no idea how much I was hoping for at least one of them to get theirs this season, but nope >_>

I think it I would prefer it if they get their cutie marks near the series finale. Or perhaps in the last few seasons, one of them gets their cutie mark and then another in the next 20 episodes or something. While it would make good character development for the CMC if they get their cutie marks earlier, I don't know what writers would do with them after it happens. On a related note, the writers are getting better with writing with the CMC as shown in Season 4, where they tend to focus on more than finding their true talents.

IMO, it has to happen eventually. You can only drag on this one motivation for so long before it just feels so tired and worn. I mean what's wrong with having the CMC get their cutie marks and potentially further evolve as characters?

I mean heack, the CMC had some of the best episodes of season 4 and they developed as characters in a GREAT sense; and keep in mind these episodes were largely NOT about the CMC finding their cutie marks so we know they have some great potential!

In the end, what keeps the Mane 6 fresh is the variety of situations we see them in, and the CMC showed great benefit from a similar treatment in season 4.

It's basically the same as asking "should spongebob ever get his driver license"? I say they should. It would be another step taken towards their character development, is something a reviewer might say :P. If they can make Twilight an alicorn, they can give the CMCs their cutie marks.

I don't think them remaining blank-flanks forever will work, but if they do get their marks that doesn't mean the end of the CMC. I could picture them going on to carry the tradition and rallying up new crusaders, mentoring them and what not, for instance.

And besides, getting your cutie-mark doesn't make you an adult - they'll still be kids who are learning trying to figure out their place in the world and how they fit in their society, and they'll probably be getting in lots of troubles and causing all sorts of chaos. They'll just have a bit clearer of a path towards they'll be leaning.

On one hand, it's getting old. Even the writers seemed to be getting tired of it, as there seems to less and less crusading.

But on the other hand...once they get their marks, just what can the writers DO with them?

Episodes like Hearts and Hooves Day: this one wasn't about them trying to get them cutie marks. :smug:
