Derpy Hooves vs. Ditzy Doo

Okay, we all raged about the censoring of our lovable cross-eyed Pegasus in "The Last Roundup". Her voice and eyes were changed completely. What I wanna know is, which name do YOU prefer? Derpy Hooves, Ditzy Doo, or Buttercup (Another name for people who think the first two are offensive)?I personally like Derpy Hooves. It's different from the other ponies, not just a cutesy name. Ditzy Doo I'll allow. But I can't stand Buttercup. Seems like too much.

I'm very much a fan of Derpy Hooves. The character was fine as she was, and the change was done for a terrible reason.

Buttercup? That's a new one. I thought we should call her Dreamy like in Pinkie Pie Solutions. At least, that's what I'd go with if she needed a new name. Ditzy Doo should be her real name, and Derpy just be a nickname, like people have in stories. That way, most people could be happy. I actually found her first voice a little offensive. I don't like the new voice either. I really wish people wouldn't be so upset about it. The old voice just feels wrong.

Personally I like Ditzy Doo, it just sounds like a pony name to me, more so than Derpy Whooves. (I also never cared much for the word "derp" iteself.) but I don't mind it being her nickname. I don't care for either voice, they both sound a little offensive (Offensive isn't the right word, but I can't think of the correct word to express my opinion on the matter correctly. So it will have to do) to me. I always thought her voice should be alot more feminine.

i think it sucks that you have this character who was essentially an animation error who the fanbase than makes absolutely explode in popularity,and so as a nod to the brony community they include her in the last roundup with a speaking role and finally make her character canon, is i think the ultimate gift for the community. then they decide to change her because she is "offensive". this isn't a community where we mock the characters for being "girly". we seriously enjoy this show, the ideas and the moral. i believe that them changing the character was offensive, i think it showed that when someone is different and "offensive" we must change them. this is a show about friendship and essentially acceptance. although you cant blame hasbro. i think you have to blame the trigger happy moms who will call and complain about anything slighty upsetting to them.

Wow I didn't know she got censored! That's silly. As someone with an eye condition though I can see why people would find her offensive as she's portrayed as stupid... but still... they need to grow up and get over it lol

 

Now on the subject of names... I like both Derpy Hooves and Ditzy Doo. I'm happy with either... but buttercup??? No thank you...leave that name for the powerpuff girls.

tough i would have to say derpy hooves but i still sometimes refer to her as ditzy when me and my freind are talking about whooves and assistant. i like both the name ditzy doo is adorable.

Personally, I prefer the name Derpy Whooves. It just seems more natural. But then again, this may sound stupid, but I wouldn't mind Ditzy Doo if they made it like she is a sister to Daring Doo, which would be awesome.

I never liked the name Derpy Hooves anyway, and no, it has nothing to do with "derp". I just happen to like Ditzy Doo much, much more as a name and have always seen her like that.

 

I'd like Derpy as a nickname though, just not as her real name.

I prefer Ditzy Do mainly because Derpy feels more like an insult to the character , especially after the last round up were bronie jumped to the conclusion that it was an attack on the mentally challenged and that why it was changed, when in truth she just has a lazy eye ad bronies just made it worse and continue to do so

 

here are the reasons for the changes

1. Rainbowdashes attitude towards Ditzy

2.they some what made her a bit to clumsy that some one with lazy eye should be so the eye were change to make her appear as just a clumsy character

3. the voice was re-done because the first on was kinda a mistake the voice actor though she was voicing a male character

4. the name was the main reason because Derpy is slang for stupid making appear as is RD was insulting Ditzy

 

1,2 and 4 were what i complained about when i sent my email concerning the issue (it wasn't just soccermom's who complained)

Well they were calling her Ditzy Doo before that episode had even aired (see Winter Wrap-Up), so I don't see the problem with sticking with that name. In fact, the name Derpy Hooves was just made up by some guy on 4chan, although I wouldn't mind that name either. However, Buttercup, is a big no for me. It sounds too out of character for her, has nothing really to do with her personality.

Both names sound fine to me. They both mean the same thing, but I think I like the name Derpy Hooves more. When I first was getting into the show and learning about the charters, when this one came up they called her Derpy. So that was the name I went with.

Derpy Hooves is by far the best name there is for that character. Us bronies created Derpy from the start. I for one was overjoyed when they added the uncensored derpy in "The Last Roundup". When they censored it I was really offended. People these days are way to sensitive, The name may mean retarded but you don't have to get all whiny because of mentally disabled people. Society is way to sensitive and the world should ignore these annoyances. No offence but it makes me angry when you have to walk on eggshells to avoid hurting someones feelings. Sorry for being so blunt but it sets off my fuse.

I don't care all that much about the character, or the background ponies in general, but Ditzy Doo sounds much more like an actual pony name. "Derpy" seems more like a nickname. I'm kind of glad they're not trying that again, to be honest...the backlash was just absolutely absurd and kind of a pain to deal with.

Ditzy Doo was a keyblade wielder. One day, she had to remove her Heart from her body (not the organ kind) thus causing her to form her Heartless, which is Buttercup. It was then restored by none other than Celestia.

 

Regardless, by doing so, she had created her Nobody, which was none other than Derpy Whooves. Derpy Whooves learned her silly voice by a friend of hers, but later her friend was revealed to be a part of her, and sadly died. When this happened, she was erased from her memory, thus causing her voice to suddenly change and everybody else's memories altered as well.

Regardless, I always preferred Derpy Whooves. It was quite saddening when her voice was changed, to be honest. I had thought society was more mature.

Derpy Hooves could have been a really well developed and realistic character, but instead they had to change her voice and underp her because some anti brony trolls wrote fake emails saying that they are parents and that the character is "offensive". Not only did they turn Derpy Hooves into a bland background pony with no character developed at all, but they also made Rainbow Dash sound way to calm and less natural.

Okay, I gotta say, I adore the old Derpy from the Last Roundup. In my opinion, the voice was spot on (could've been higher-pitched, but it was fine just like that too). And I think her unaligned eyes are really cute. Derpy was a massive nod to the Brony community and I really appreciated it.

 

However, even though 99% of Bronies aren't going to find Derpy offensive, there's still a small percentage of people, especially parents, who may find it offensive, just because of their personal experiences and their own interpretation of it (which is not necessarily correct). With that said, I believe that Hasbro made a difficult choice, but for good reason. In order for MLP to continue its route as one of the most popular and well-loved cartoons for both kids and Bronies alike, it has to maintain a positive, tolerant image for the audience as a whole. If parents who were genuinely offended had their complaints land on deaf ears, it would've been very bad for the series' reputation, and that could in the long run mean big problems for the show.

 

I would do anything to get the old Derpy back, but I also support Hasbro's move. They want to be careful not to offend anyone with their show, even if it seems to most that there is no reason to be offended. MLP has an absolutely wonderful undertone of tolerance and kindness to it, and upholding that is extremely important, even when it's tough.

 

I love you, Derpy Hooves, and even if your name is changed to Ditzy, Buttercup, or anything else, I'll still love you and MLP all the way. <3

Idk why... But in school before MLP FiM... People when they drop something or do something stupid... Instead of saying: Sh**, A**, or F***, they would just go "Derp"

Want to go by ditzy just because of a cople of hate mail... That's there choice...

 

Derp is a word that is used when people do something dumb or stupid... It dosnt mean "retarded"...
