  1. Guys think that maybe a lot of those ponies in Glimmer's town chose to be there because they have had negative experiences? How many Diamond Tiara's are there to mock ponies with "bad" cutie marks? This whole equal town may be reactionary to elitism that might be found in some other places, in which case Glimmer had good goals but went about it in the wrong way, and mistakenly believed that removing individuality was the best way to go.
  2. Before this comic, Sombra was almost not even a character. This is one of the comics that makes the show better. Like Shining armor and Cadance having no backstory what-so-ever in the show, but an awesome comic exists that gives them a story. And a book gives a reason why Cadance is an Alicorn Princess (she was originally a Pegasus).
  3. The elements of harmony were an instant win device if they were all togethor, so in order to make defeating villains interesting they had to keep finding ways to to get around the EoH, ie, having them locked up so they can't use them against Chrysalis, or having discord take them, and etc. Infact, they didn't even use the elements to defeat Sombra and Chrysalis. So it just makes a lot of good sense from a story telling perspective to write the elements out of the story for good, because the EoH just get in the way of telling a story at this point.
  4. I really hate the "you look just like a Princess" line too.
  5. @@TailsIsNotAlone, I may add that 'non-canon' can also mean something that was once officially considered canon but is no longer considered such. Then there are alternate canons, different lines of official continuity, when there are more than one official canon lines. DC and Marvel have those for example. Or how about when there were 2 different sonic cartoons at the same time in the 90s that shared no canon whatsoever.
  6. I'm going to have to watch me some 80s transformers and other such cartoons, they have a certain appeal to them. And of coarse, 80s Pony.
  7. I had a Genesis, then a 64, the games for those systems were a part of my childhood, the commercials were great.
  8. Sounds like a rumor if you ask me. The canon-ness of the comics have always been a bit fuzzy, I doubt we will ever get a real answer on that.
  9. Don't forget that just because Faust said it, doesn't make it canon.
  10. I loved this issue, it was great. I would be surprised if this storyline isn't continued, is there a possibility that there will be future Fiendship is magic issues after the current set?
  11. Hmm. Did Starlight actually have to result to overtly brainwashing the other Townsponies? Seemed to me she simply convinced them.
  12. I wonder if the next gen will be so friendship focussed like the current gen is? Just because the current gen is 'Friendship is magic' doesn't mean the next gen will be. I hope there are some male mane characters too next series, MLP Tales had 3 main male characters who were just as much main characters as the girls, its a little weird that MLP went backwards in one way since the 90s. (I blame G3, that had no male ponies what-so-ever, not even background male ponies)
  13. As far as I know, there isn't much of a controversy actually going on. From what i have seen this "controversy" is almost entierly some people on the internet going 'lol communism' and other people being all like 'its not communism, you know that right?' And for the record, yes, Starlight glimmer is not a communist, and the episode is not anti-communist.
  14. I liked Fluttershy a lot in this episode, it shows she is willing to give ponies a chance and doesn't rush to judgments. I agree with you, I dislike bats because of Fluttershy's position being depicted as the right one. Mostly because the show itself doesn't do a very good job at convincing us that Fluttershy is right, and the imagery of the episode backs up Applejacks position. You see the bats eating way too many apples, and actually hurting the trees in the episode, disproving Fluttershy, but somehow Fluttershy was right at the end.
  15. As I was born in the 90s, I completely missed the 80s. But... I think a Nostalgia thread for those that were in the 80s should exist. So here is a thread for you 80s folks to talk about movies and fashion and TV and overall other 80s stuff. Here is the 90s Nostalgia thread. https://mlpforums.com/topic/125795-the-90s-nostalgia-thread/ And the 2000s thread. https://mlpforums.com/topic/131568-the-2000s-nostalgia-thread/ In any-case, I now like some things from the 80s, like transformers and movies so I guess there are things younger people can talk about even if it wouldn't be nostalgia for us. As for me, am planning an 80s themed week, where I listen to 80s music, play 80s video games, and wear 80s fashion. Watching 'Back to the Future' is totally on my list. So any-ponies here have any suggestions for 80s week? go ahead and share some ideas please!
  16. I grew up in the 90s and so are a lot of the other people on this site, and I was thinking about how fun it could be if there was a thread were we can discuss the 1990s, talk about TV, fashion, Music, trends, that kind of stuff. I was more of a late 90s/early 00s person, having been born in the real early 90s, teenager 90s things weren't targeted at me, unlike my older siblings. For example my sister had a whole bunch of those Grateful dead stuffed bears (at least that's what I think that's what they were), as well as had a bunch of rock and roll stuff like posters and things in her room, so that's what I think about when I think about stuff for teenagers in the 90s from my perspective as a kid at the time. (that and I may have secretly watched an episode or two of things that I was not allowed to watch, like South park and Beevis and Butthead, and Celebrity Death Match). I made threads about the 80s and 2000s too. https://mlpforums.com/topic/125797-the-80s-nostalgia-thread/ https://mlpforums.com/topic/131568-the-2000s-nostalgia-thread/
  17. Who are you? Oh wait... the OP. Sorry, this discussion became about communism and we forgot about you, there was something about Satan in your post? That was weird.
  18. @@Honsou, I spoiled this thread for a reason, you know.
  19. Is it so hard to belive that a normal unicorn can become powerful like Glimmer did? It seems to me that Glimmer invented this magic, it might have taken her years to come up with it. It seems you can't know everything when it comes to magic, and you can't be equally talented in everything. Even celestia was beaten by magic and she has been around for ages.
  20. It would suddenly destroy the 'Equestria Girls is not canon" idea.
  21. How much did the town ponies hate having the same cutiemark? Because I don't think its a straightforward answer, sure they had those weird smiles on most of the time and they missed their cutiemarks, but the way those few who talked to the mane 6 in private seemed to me that they genuinely liked their current situation in ways too, those looks in their faces as they described loosing their marks looked genuine to me.
  22. Random thought here, but (If I am not mistaken) countries where they have a different perspective on smiling like in some Asian countries and some eastern European countries, like Russia, where they don't smile at strangers because they only smile at people they have personal connections with, would make Miss Pie feel a bit weird. So yeah, if there is such a place like that in Equestria, that could potentially weird out our heroes, who dole out smiles like nothing. Probably not going to happen though. edit- but then again... she had no problem understanding Maud's feelings, so maybe she would have no problem in Russia or China after-all. Hmmm...
  23. Its superficially connected to communism, but that's about it. I mean, all those houses that look exactly the same in a row reminds me as much of the Soviet housing blocks as the american suburbs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_2lGkEU4Xs But yeah, you can say the equal village could be representations of lots of things. You could say this a satire of Communism, or conservatism, or liberalism, or religion/humanism, or japan, etc. But its really none of those things.
  24. I really don't see how American schools discourage individuality, at least not compared to other countries schools. We can't get rid of class rooms. There isn't uniforms here, we can wear our interests on our sleeves. Seriously, there were some students from my school that wore Naruto headbands to school. And then in the working world we have to conform to the expectations of our bosses (on work time).
