general media A character you thought was a different gender than what they were
ErBoi replied to ~Sugar Sprinkles~'s topic in Media Discussion
It's strange, Frieza never used to confuse me; I knew he was a guy from the start because he was referred to with masculine pronouns before, during, and obviously after his first appearance. I noticed the appearance and female voice was strange, but so were a ton of other things in the show. And yet, lately, I find myself occasionally misspeaking and using feminine pronouns when referring to him despite never actually having that confusion in the first place. This for me as well. Nothing about that appearance or voice seemed male to me. -
Nice. I must ask that you keep 1 thing in mind: Do not put active fireplaces in houses if they're mostly made of wool. I say that because I recently downloaded an Equestria map and very shortly after I started playing, 4 of the buildings in Ponyville were on fire. The Crystal Empire is looking awesome.

When I saw the first silhouette'd shots of Greninja in the Direct, I was honestly expecting it to be Mega Mewtwo Y. But hey, a new Pokémon works too. Not crazy about Zero Suit Samus's new design. The crazy stiletto rocket heels are particularly unusual (though a considerable improvement over the abominable platform heels she had in Other M). Overall, the game's shaping up nicely. Although, giving temporary bans to players who "relentless target a single opponent" or "self-destruct multiple times" is just...dumb. I hope that only applies for the "For Fun" online mode. A little disappointed we don't have specific release dates but at least we have a window now. Plus I already planned to own both version and with them releasing separately, I don't need to drop that much money all at once.

I hope I don't come across as harsh, dealing with critiques is something I've had to do on an almost daily basis for years now so I'm trying to word this in a way that I think would be the most helpful and direct if it were me asking for the critique. There's plenty that could use some work: -The pose is somewhat convoluted and, combined with the perspective, play a bit of a trick on the eye, it took a moment before I realized whether her body was pointed toward or away from the viewer. A good test to see if you have a strong pose is to put it in silhouette and see if it still clearly reads. -She's not proportionate to the show model, if that's what you were going for; otherwise, the proportions are OK except her front right leg is longer than her front left, if you imagine it straightened out, it would go below the ground, er, cloud, level. Also, her neck is just a tad too long, in my opinion. -The shading's too uniform all over. She seems to have almost the same amount of light hitting every part of her body, particularly the feathers. Keep in mind the shape of her features when you shade them, feathers are relatively flat so they won't have such a big, soft gradient. Also, I'm not sure if this is because of the foreground, but the shading on her raised hoof looks like the bottom of the hoof is supposed to be showing, but the contour of the leg matches better with how it would look if the bottom was facing away from the viewer. -The light seem to be coming in from just around the viewer's right, so I would say use less shading on her left wing and torso, and more on her right wing. Also, with the direction of the light, her left wing would cast a shadow over her back and not her belly. -Her tail and mane seem to be blowing in the wind in 2 different directions. If you're going for a look that she's just turning around, I'd put just one consistent curve through the tail, as opposed to the S curve you have; also curve her torso in a way that continues the tail's curve. If you are going for a blowing in the wind look, have her tail flowing the same direction as her mane. -Her head and body are both in perfect profile while facing opposite directions; she's practically breaking her neck to achieve that pose so I'd avoid that. -Her ear especially sticks out to me. It could really use more detailing in any case because as it is, it just doesn't really look much like an ear as much as just an odd shape jutting out of her head. -Trying to show definition in every strand of hair is fine, but it clashes with the simple look of her body. I'd either simplify the hair detailing, or complicate the body detailing (fur tufts, more feather definition, etc.). -And the background; the cloud in the upper right looks pretty nice, I'd try to apply the bluer colouring and fuller contour to the other clouds. Here's a quick sketch of my take on the concept (ignore the selection lines, GIMP froze on me before I could finish making a silhouette so I had to take a screenshot to save the image):

For me, Sean Schemmel's rendition Dragon Soul. Yeah, it's almost obnoxiously autotuned, but I just love that it's actually Goku singing: Runner-up, One Day, One Dream from InuYasha: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Crk1-C8u-zI I haven't really touched anime since high school (not counting Dragon Ball re-watches), but I still know the lyrics to this opening...even if I don't know what many of them mean.

So TMNT can have a worse DERPY but FiM cannot?
ErBoi replied to DiscordAnarchy's topic in Sugarcube Corner
I've been following (and absolutely loving) the new TMNT series and, yeah, this did occur to me when I saw this episode. But, different companies involved, different demographics, and different networks, so meh. My initial reaction was just wondering how long it'll take before April Derp gets edited. I gave this show a shot not long ago. I don't even know. I want to hate it just for how dumb it is...but that seems redundant since the stupidity is kind of the point. It's almost dada-esque in that way. It's the kind of thing that's like...I mean, objectively it's certainly creative...but...nnguwaah? -
Hmmm... I'm not really sure. I was prepared to say Mon Colle Knights because I had an apparently incorrect memory of it being something I watched in my earliest of early memories when I was like 3 or so but, having just checked, turns out the show came out in 2001. Probably Voltron then. I do have vague memories of watching the car Voltron series when I was really little. I don't know if Transformers should count or not since so much of it was animated in Japan, but it was headed by an American company. Pokémon hooked me early on. The '95 dub of Dragon Ball left very little impact on me, it wasn't until Dragon Ball Z was the only thing worth watching before school when I was 9 that I got hooked on the franchise.

What unproductive task do you waste your time on the most

Video games primarily. I've had Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze for only a little over a week now and I'm already very close to achieving 200% completion. -
What Detective Butler said. The shading in particular is a little all over. The light direction is different on some parts of the body than others. For instance, the shape and bulk of the shading on the front left leg almost makes it look concave. Hope you don't mind that I've scribbled all over your drawing, but I gave a shot at outlining how I would shade it: It's always good to consider how certain overlapping body parts will cast shadows as well, like the belly over the back right leg. Aside from that, I would say the most noticeable flaw I see is your back legs are a bit too thick.

Between my brother and I, we have at least 1 of every major Nintendo console/handheld except for the NES which was yardsale'd; he still has the SNES, N64 and Gamecube at his apartment, and our parents still have our Genesis. In my possession specifically, Game Boy Color, Advance, and Micro, DSi and lite (if that counts as old), and a Wii (ditto). I also have a Retro Duo which isn't all that old but it's purpose is to play old games (NES/SNES/FC/SFC). As for games (I'll only mention pre-GBA since including stuff like my DS collection will make this super long)... -Platoon (NES) -Ninja Gaiden (NES) -Pokémon Red (GB) -Shadowgate (GBC) -Final Fantasy Adventure (GB) -Zelda Link's Awakening DS and Oracle of Ages (GBC) -Mario All-Stars -Aladdin (SFC) -Dragon Ball Z Hyper Dimension and Super Butouden 2 (SFC) I'm sure I forgot something, but there it is.

Anyway, yeah, there were definitely a handful of youngsters at BronyCAN last year. I had a toddler and her father play a bit of Mario Party with me in the game room. I'm...really not good around kids though; I just have almost no concept of how to speak to them. It wasn't long before I politely excused myself to go check out panels. But that's just me. If the kid is OK with being around crowds of people older than her/him, you should be fine. -
WE DID IT! I checked in just in time to see Twitch defeat Blue. Congratulations everybody.

6'4". I actually don't have a scale at the moment, but last I checked, I was somewhere around 250-260lbs. Though I've definitely lost a very little bit of weight since.

Most-Illogical Arguments You've Ever Heard
ErBoi replied to Castle Bleck's topic in General Discussion
This is a great video and it's something that's come up once in a while for me. One of my 3D animation teachers fed us that nonsense and it immediately struck me as questionable since I had been looking at a lot of biology in my free time and had a decent grasp on how our eyes work. I sort of wish I spoke up, but oh well. Though the one thing I would say that's sort of against this video (not really but you'll see what I mean): In animation, traditional frame-by-frame in particular, adding more frames won't inherently make your animation better. If your animation principles, sense of timing and weight, squash-and-stretch, etc. are bad at 12FPS, they'll still be bad at 60FPS. When I told my brother (an avid fighting-game player) that most traditional animation on TV is done 'on 2s' (i.e. 24 frames-per-second, drawings held for 2 frames, effectively making the animation 12 frames-per-second) he responded with, "That's so bad.". That's just a mentality I don't want people to get into their heads too firmly. 12 drawings per second is effectively the bare minimum for a good representation of the animation principles and most of the time more than that is unmanageable for time and budget, as well as too much to ask of the animators themselves. Of course traditional animation is extremely rare now anyway and the nature of computer animation and Flash animation do allow for higher framerates without a staggering increase in workload. Anyway, when it comes to PC gaming though, or modern gaming in general really, yes, absolutely, crank up the framerate as much as you can. -
This has been an...interesting experiment to say the least. In a nutshell, this:

I have my pass. I bought it just slightly too late to get the early bird deal. :\ Ah well. I can hardly wait, last year was awesome.

Drawing on a computer isn't synonymous with drawing with a mouse. Have you ever tried using a drawing tablet? He's not the only one On principle, I'd advise people to try every medium they can. But I also don't even remember the last time I drew on paper. Cintiq at home, and Colors!3D on my 3DS when I'm out.
