Yikes! I've never even HEARD of anything like this before. Not even in the crazy/über-religious homes. Are you going/have you been to college? I trust that would be a better experience for you, yeesh! My family, apparently didn't get the memo of those generalizations! http://mlpforums.com/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.png But you are totally right in saying the education system here sucks. The entire system is centered around not working together for a common goal (no cheating, majority of assignments are solitary), doing large amounts of useless homework and an us vs. them attitude (30 people vs. one, much older person with absolute authority, who might not always inspire a feeling of trust in the students). I won't blame the teachers, though; most of them are spectacular. The curriculum and school boards, on the other hand...what a joke! Hopefully we, as a country, can give the system an overhaul in the future.

Hot Pocket! Constructive criticism? Pausing the music for dramatic effect? Changing music, wantonly? I don't know, Jim, I'm a musician, not a video editor!

Wear a pony shirt in public! But, seriously, take some risks. I'm lucky enough to have fairly open-minded friends that really know what I'm normally into (martial arts, shred guitar, dark aesthetic, etc.), and they know when I'm really being serious about something. All it took for me to convince some of my friends is to get them to watch the Discord episodes. Being Star Trek fans, they loved the fact that Q was in it and had to know more about this crazy show we all love. But yeah, take risks; it's the only way to discover your next brony friend, but please don't blame me if it all crashes down!

To those of you who think that you do not get social interaction when home-schooled, think again. In home-schooling, unlike public or private school, you mostly deal with grown ups, and, I must say, it made it MUCH easier for me to deal with people in and after college (the "working world," if you will). How many PUBLIC high schoolers would do well in a chamber of commerce meeting? Home-schooling definitely taught me how to act in uncomfortable situations. To be fair, I was never a sociable person when I was in elementary school (kindergarten through sixth grade), but finally meeting like-minded people in college changed that quite a bit...along with a lot of soul-searching. And if you're still not convinced, meet my wife, the embodiment of the super-ADHD, Pinkie Pie spirit! Here's the main point: if you grow up in a household of people who are afraid of everything and have no friends outside of a small circle, THAT is where you'll get terrible social skills. If you want to throw in some serious abuse and neglect in there, as well, go for it! I'm sure those are awesome for building great social skills as well. /sarcasm TL,DR: It's all about with whom you spend most of your time. Crazy, paranoid, strict parents? Well-connected, tenacious, independent parents? Your peers and teachers? How many different types of people do you call friends? And hey, it's awesome that this community has open discussions about this kind of stuff. I wish other people I've met were more open-minded.

Well, thank you! Maybe I'll do some more relaxing music, soon. Next is Luna, though; I came up with the idea a while back...

mega thread What game are you playing right now?
Warbalist replied to Mint Petal's topic in Media Discussion
Just finished Darkness II. Short and sweet, like a good dessert, but not very similar to the first one. -
Hey all! I couldn't resist making this one and getting it up online as soon as possible. It was just too much fun to make, no matter how many takes of bass and lead guitar I took! Hope you all like dancing, 'cause that's what you're gonna get! http://soundcloud.com/warbalist/pinkie-pies-funk-floor http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?w11a7jn5wxwt19c

Like the little league episode! Or CREME FRAICHE! YOU JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND, SHARON!!! It's true. They go overboard trying to be insulting sometimes.

Being relatively new to the community, I seem to have come in at an interesting time (right before Derpygate). Here is my perspective: If the fandom has been wild and crazy as of late, then, wow! I'd say love and tolerate is still going strong. This community is still head and shoulders above any other online community of which I've been a part (especially other guitarists; you wanna see flame wars...). Nearly every brony I've talked to is really into the whole "treating people with dignity" thing. You even have fairly open and non-judgemental conversations about religion and the like, ON THIS VERY FORUM! Also, if a bunch of people in bad states of mind and situations are flooding into the fandom, isn't that a good thing? Didn't some of you come to the show for the same reasons? They closer they are and the more we stand by our values, the more we can gain some influence in their lives. So let's be compassionate, listen to what they have to say and be as helpful as possible. TL,DR: Fandom still good. Treat noobs with respect and care.

What do you do when you get a song stuck in your head?
Warbalist replied to dar tunsh's topic in General Discussion
I tend to listen to it once to try to jostle it loose, then play a whole bunch of something else to replace it. Maybe play a bunch of guitar. In the case of the most recent song stuck in my head, however, I've just kept looping it over, and over... -

gaming Mario or Sonic the Hedgehog?
Warbalist replied to ~Sugar Sprinkles~'s topic in Media Discussion
*Creaking bones while getting into rocking chair* I remember waaaaay back when Sonic first came out. I already had my genesis, but Sega didn't have a good mascot. And then, the speedy hedgehog with attitude arrived (perfect timing for such an aggressive decade). I still have all my in-the-game-box posters! Never looked at Mario the same way again, no matter how many hours of Mario Kart I played... -
Things society tells you "YOU SHOULD FEEL ASHAMED FOR LIKING THAT!"
Warbalist replied to Lillia's topic in General Discussion
Good going. I don't touch the stuff, either, considering it reminds me of menthol...blerg! It's tough, too, because so many people (at least in music) won't want to do business with you if you don't drink. They think you're hiding something. -
An American Tail (though, I could pick almost any Don Bluth...) Neverending Story Wayne's World Robocop Alien (trilogy) Terminator 2.... .... what drugs were my parents on!?
-
Keep going, Phony! It's all about the long tail. The longer you're around and about the community ---> the more people will grow accustomed to you ---> the more people will listen ---> more people may like and subscribe. Sometimes it can take years to find the right fanbase, for any musician. Just never stop, and throw as much love, care and attention to detail into your songs and pieces as you can. You seem to be doing well so far (heck, I subscribed to you), just keep it up and keep growing as a musician. We're all one, big, freaky family, here!
