  1. I have had the hiccups three times today. It's a nightmare.

  2. Welcome to MLP Forums, Emerald Princess! Since this is your first time here, please allow me to show you a few places you might like to check out given the interests you've laid out. Here we have a multitude of sections, including discussion of the show as well as general discussion, RolePlaying, and connections to Poniverse. You say that Rainbow Dash is your favorite pony, right? Why don't you check out her fanclub? Since you're also into artwork and music, you might want to stop by at Octavia's Hall as well. Please showcase your talents, too! Everypony here would love to see them! There's lots to do and so much to see, so please feel free to explore! If you have any questions, most of us would love to help you. We're all a happy and friendly community here, after all.
  3. There is no doubt in my mind that "gay" has been used to marginalize homosexuals before. The question is, where do we draw the line? "Gay" isn't the only word used for that purpose. "Moron", "idiot", "dumb", etc have all been used to marginalize those with mental disabilities. (Don't believe me, go look it up.) I doubt anyone who is using those words for those purposes nowadays are trying to marginalize any of those groups, but it definitely developed as a result of that, yet those are words we use all the time without a second thought. Heck, even the word Apple has been used as a slur. Context is super important and words by themselves don't hold power. The word "the" is the most commonly used word and yet when used alone it's nonsensical at best. While it is understandable that people are offended by these words, I do think you need to look at the bigger picture. It's not insulting when someone calls me "gay", but it is insulting when someone tells me that I will never amount to anything and that I'm not going to get anywhere with my life. Note the latter is not one word, but a bunch strung together. Words have multitudes of different meanings. Heck, "wear" can either mean something being degraded or clothes that you have on your back. It's not uncommon for those meanings to be completely different from each other. "Gay" itself used to mean happiness, and I don't even know when down the line it started being equated to homosexuals. My point here is that language evolves and the best way to cope with it is to evolve along with it; getting stuck in one place will leave you behind and muddy up your perceived intentions of others.
  4. Another thing to note as well is that what's more illogical about Rainbow Dash's performance in Sonic Rainboom isn't the fact that she made a Sonic Rainboom, but rather the instance in which she suddenly changes directions after she's grabbed the Wonderbolts and Rarity within that episode. As they say - "it's not the fall, but the sudden stop at the end". Normal bodies of organisms are not designed to be able to handle a sudden change or stop in direction like that. As your post says, it's the suddenness that puts people in danger. But of course, perhaps pegasi, and other ponies for that matter, have developed in such a way that the sudden stop doesn't bother their bodies or shift their organs. If this is true, then the same function that would protect them in that way would also protect them in the case that they suddenly accelerate as well, which renders the whole point in the first post completely moot. In other words, it is very much entirely possible that Rainbow flew that fast. It is not even considered unusual for pegasi to be fast in the first place, she's just exceptionally good at it.
  5. There are absolutely people who have had experiences with bronies to that kind of fashion, at conventions or otherwise, and had their opinion soured of the show because of that, so no one blames you for it, don't worry. You are most certainly welcome here and you don't need to apologize. Welcome to the forums!
  6. The doctor? You mean, like the hospital doctor? Sure, I know her. Why?
  7. I think you're entirely missing my point. Saying someone has a "lousy personality" is, in fact, a direct attack. There are no two ways about it. Every single shipping that I know of has fans who might make my eyes roll (including ones that I like!), and AppleDash is no different, but that doesn't mean that it's worth painting everyone who likes it with the same brush. Disliking a ship =/= disliking its fans. It's all right to think that a ship makes no sense, but once you start getting into assuming the lives of the people who like the ship or its dynamic, you're starting to cross a very delicate line. No two AppleDash lovers are going to be exactly the same. As with any group, really. It's not the brethren card, it's the "we're arguing about ponies, is it really such an important issue that we need to insult people about it" card. My point was not that we are all united, but rather that we all like something that, ultimately, doesn't matter and is completely fictional. That applies to the ships themselves as well. I see why people like AppleDash, because it's a rival ship and they've butt heads with each other. Of course what you're saying to me about how it wasn't really that close of interaction is a completely valid statement to make (and one that I agree with, as I don't like AppleDash myself), but that doesn't mean that other people's interpretation of the situation is completely incorrect either. You don't see it? Fine. But it doesn't mean that people who do, or think that it can make sense, are somehow lesser than you in some way, that they're lazy. Hell, maybe they don't even just like it because opposites attract; I have seen arguments in favor of liking it actually because they have similar interests and can keep up with each other. (That is, they like competition.) Also, just because it's less offensive doesn't change the fact it's still offensive. It's likely going to be more painful and damaging to you if I shot you in the chest as opposed to the shoulder, but damn, it's still gonna hurt. (And for the record, I don't agree with the criticisms toward those fanbases and don't believe that they're justified either. By criticism I mean the kind of completely insulting their characteristics. Again, no two people in a fanbase are exactly the same anyway so it's a moot point.)
  8. Yo, hey, no ship is worth insulting people over. People like AppleDash for a variety of reasons and painting them all with this certain color is not only doing a disservice to them, it's a direct attack on their character and, though I don't like AppleDash either because it doesn't interest me (mainly because I'm not that interested in Applejack as a character), I'm not going to go ahead and say that people like something for a "petty" reason. People like the rival dynamic and they have plenty enough screen time together to warrant liking them together. Don't claim moral superiority over other people just because you admit you don't have any serious, in depth reason for liking the ships that you do. This is a habit I've been noticing among people such as yourself and it really needs to stop. At the end of the day we all like ponies, no matter the reason. None of us are worse or better for it. (Also, there are plenty of AppleDash shippers who are in relationships, so I would not criticize them of not understanding what makes a good one.) I wouldn't say it's as bad as Twilight and Flash Sentry. For one, Soarin' actually has a personality, and for another, Soarin' and Rainbow Dash have interacted beyond just awkward shove-it-down-our-throats romantic tension.
  9. Touching horns is not a taboo within the show. Heck, I recall one instance of Rainbow Dash touching Twilight Sparkle's in order to keep her from using magic. (Note how Twilight isn't angry, just surprised. And that's because the action was rather sudden.) The whole 'touching horns is taboo' thing came from fanfiction and fanfiction only.
  10. Oh, boy! One of my favorite topics of discussion! First, I'll address what you were initially asking and then I'll address your latest reply. PathfinderCS stole most of the words right from my keyboard, but if I had to add anything, it would be that the reason that video games and entertainment of any sort gets that kind of backlash is because a lot of adults who didn't grow up with video games - in other words, it's from people who dislike change. They don't understand the appeal of video games and they use "it's childish" as a justification for that indifference. "It's not for me because I'm an adult." It's their absolute refusal to give something a chance by diminishing it to one, perceived to be negative trait. One thing you need to note, though: there is a difference between something being child-like and childish. Child-like: What games can be. A sort of innocence and naivety within the game's design, without the nitty-gritty. Childish: Retaining the negative traits of a child, e.g. a lack of responsibility and whimsicality that comes with not being able to take care of one's self. Video games are able to have both of these traits, although games like Spyro the Dragon are more child-like than they are childish. The game is not "immature", it's simply bright and colorful and simple. Games like The Simpsons game, on the other hand, are more childish as they have a streak of immaturity to them. The problem is that people reduce other people to their interests, that if you like this thing then you are a part of this thing, and that simply isn't true. I may like games in which I'm shooting people up, but that doesn't mean I want to go out and shoot people. I like Spyro the Dragon, but it doesn't mean I'm naive. Your interests don't always reflect your personal traits, and that is something that your brother probably doesn't understand. If I liked things that were exactly like me in every way, then I wouldn't be roleplaying as protagonists who are shy and gentle (which I am most certainly not). So are certain games child-like/childish? Yes. Some are even unashamedly so. Is it a bad thing to like games like this? Absolutely not. Especially a game as brilliant as ORAS, your brother is off his rocker if he thinks that game is bad for you. Please. Go buy it right now. But reasonably, anything can be an addiction to you. Reading. Watching TV. Doing exercise. Yes, video games are considerably addictive in nature, but that doesn't mean it's impossible to curb that addiction. What you need is time management. You need to learn to balance your hobby time with playing video games with your time with doing schoolwork. Don't worry; a lot of people have this problem. Heck, I do, and I'm not even in high school anymore.
  11. SCS, if you don't win this, I'm gonna - be very disappointed.
  12. I'd say I like the positive atmosphere that the show gives off and how relateable the characters are. But to be real with you? It's just plain fun for me to watch, and I like SoL type shows as long as the characters within them are dynamic. Nobody is going to convince you to like the show even with the most convincing of arguments. You're not going to think that the characters are great just because I said so, and there's a chance that you won't think so when you actually watch it. The episode that hooked me into the show personally was Sonic Rainboom because of the fact that it made a character that up until then was pretty flat, Rainbow Dash, into a rather dynamic, three-dimensional character and showed she had legitimate insecurities and fears herself. But a lot of episodes you can just pick up at and start with. I actually do not recommend starting with Season Finale episodes or the Return of Harmony, though, mainly because those tie up a story arc and they're more potent if you already know the characters (in Return of Harmony's case, mainly the latter). There's absolutely nothing wrong with a show being 'cutesy'. I feel no shame in saying that part of the reason I like this show is because it's cute and girly.
  13. In my opinion, the most naive is Pinkie Pie. While she does have some wisdom of her own, it's usually the childish brand (which is what naive means - child-like). On the other hand, AJ is the most "adult" of the mane cast, so I would say that she is, therefore, the least naive. Rainbow Dash is pretty genre savvy too, though.
  14. This is probably the biggest issue with them having an overarching villain (or any epic, not-subtle plot that lasts for more than two episodes). The SoL episodes would have to be delegated to "breather episodes" in order for it to work - and MLP is not a show of action, but SoL on the side. It's SoL, but with action on the side. Of course, a television show can take a genre shift, but MLP is not one of the shows that needs it, nor would I think would be suitable for such a thing.
  15. I sleep with a werehog Sonic plushie. Kind of reminds me of my girlfriend since she likes the werehog so much.
  16. ALAS, POOR YORICK. I KNEW HIM HORATIO.

  17. She has experienced what we know to be the "Luigi effect". Like Luigi in Super Mario Bros., Princess Luna is the younger sibling, the underdog, and also the character with the most obvious flaws (not to say that Celestia doesn't have any, but they're not on display like the insecurity that Luna represents). As a result, this makes her more likable as people either relate more directly to her or they're used to being the older sibling helping the underdog out. That doesn't mean Celestia isn't likable, or that Celestia is any worse than Luna is - just the way that Luna's character is written makes her easier for people to lean toward whether it is to protect her or to relate to her.
  18. God. I feel absolutely horrible.

I haven't interacted with you much, but I wouldn't say you're annoying at all. You contribute well to threads and you write well thought-out posts & such. From what I can tell people really do appreciate yah.

This probably won't help you by itself, but know that there are people here who care. ^_^

Don't know how much it means coming from me, but I've never thought so and am having trouble imagining anybody else finding you annoying either. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

I can say that i dont find you annoying at all and no one is easily replaceable because every person has those unique elements and aspects that cannot be replaced. =)

  19. The reaction to Twilicorn was pretty ridiculous, in my opinion. Nobody even knew what Twilicorn even meant and yet people accused the show of jumping shark or just not knowing what they're doing, even though Twilicorn was something that Hasbro put down on the show and the writer and director had very little to do with it. I don't want the writers on the show to be afraid of making characters change over time just because of all that, and at the end of the day they're not appealing to those people anyway; they're appealing to children, and most children probably thought Twilicorn was beautiful as a princess. Their role on the show often times boils down to funny antics and Cutie Marks, yes, but that isn't their only role. They have shown their individual struggles (Sweetie Belle's often involve her relationship with Rarity, Applebloom with her own family, and Scootaloo with Rainbow Dash) and they also can provide a sort of audience substitute for the children out there who are around their approximate age, to teach lessons to kids that most of us would already get at this point. Because of the fact they're fillies and they don't even fully know what to do with their lives yet, they have even more potential to grow than the Mane Six do, because at least with the Mane Six they are either where they want to be or they're on the path to it, and the CMC are neither. As for whether or not they'll get their Cutie Marks in season 5, we'll have to see, but the evidence that the first post provides, while not conclusive, strongly suggests that even if they don't get their Cutie Marks then, it's very, very likely we'll at least get more episodes developing them as characters.
  20. How are they not? There have been plenty of episodes that don't focus on their Cutie Marks, and they're usually considered the best CMC episodes. Sisterhooves Social and Sleepless in Ponyville are two rather obvious examples. If anything, them getting their Cutie Marks can make for some great conflict that they aren't able to have without getting the Cutie Mark. I can think of three right off the bat: One pony gets a Cutie Mark before the others. Should she still be considered part of the CMC? What if two got it instead - what if the third pony felt left out? Them getting their talents, and then realizing that without it, they wouldn't have the CMC. Could they have to diverge paths...or would they find a way to make a new group to ban their talents together? After all, one of them is a singer, one of them is good at construction, and one of them is a good dancer. Them not being happy with the Cutie Mark that they received or, alternatively, them not being sure of their actual talent in that area and not being certain how to apply it. Once those plots are reached, they can be developed further as characters after that. They might have entirely new lives from that point on and need to cope with it. It will also make it easier to focus on development of them individually, which Scootaloo especially sorely needs at this point. If you don't want to talk about it, stay out of a thread about it. There are other threads on these forums, other topics that you can address. People are allowed to talk about this if they want to, and until they actually have their Cutie Marks, of course it's still going to have speculation.
  21. Hey, c'mon, you can't expect me to know everything. Huh. I didn't know she had a coltfriend. Congrats, I guess? I just said I wouldn't tell ya even if I had one! Uh...sure? I like her cupcakes too. ...Thanks? I don't even know what this is...
  22. ... What's that supposed to mean? Hey, maybe I can get a Cutie Mark in chasing cats away! Consider yourself helped!
  23. Ooh, that's tough. I want to say Wreck-it Ralph, but I've watched some other movies that I've liked, too. I'm not very picky when it comes to movies; I pretty much like anything that I see when I watch it in theaters (except perhaps for Frozen, which to me came off as a very arrogant movie and it just put me off). I remember when I was little I used to watch Snow White and the Seven Dwarves a lot, though I doubt I'd have the same opinion of it now than I did then. Also, I'm a pretty big fan of How to Train Your Dragon (both movies). Because she's a chicken.
  24. Hello, friends! I saw that some other ponies were making threads like these, so I thought it would be suitable if I made my own! Before we begin, here's some ground rules that I'd like to make: I won't answer every question directed to me. I will do the best I can, but some questions may be too personal, or I may not know the answer to them. Sorry about that. I would prefer it if you were polite when you ask me. Any derogatory questions are likely to be ignored. Let's all be civil ponies here. Make sure you read through the entire thread before asking your question; there may be a chance I've answered it already! I don't mind repeat questions, but it might take away from the time I have to answer newer ones. Follow up questions are fine, so long as I know what you're talking about. If you see anyone else going by the name 'Twilight Sparkle', they may be me or they may be someone pretending to be me. Please don't flag them down; we're all here to have fun, right? So go ahead, my friends, ask away!
