Billy Joel has like 33 top 40 hits, which are great songs, but not on that list is "Shades of Grey" which is my favorite of his songs. really great sound, really great theme, a big earworm for me.

Philosophically, I very much agree with you. But there is a big difference between vapor and the stereotypical enabler, who cannot be dissuaded. Vapor, when confronted, could eventually be convinced to come clean, and to fix the broken relationship and find a healthy way to relate to her friend. I'd have found this episode very painful if she had dug in her heals, and had had not grown. However, the willingness of the show to portray something very wrong, but then fix it, is satisfying and interesting to me. Similarly, I found the hazing of rainbow dash at the academy very hard to watch, but if they had addressed and fixed it, i'd have been fine with it.

oh, wow, very cool. Sky and vapor's relationship was unequal, and broken, and had a lot of relatable elements. the fact that one was keeping such a major secret from the other, and that Sky's confidence was based on a lie was a very interesting dynamic. Also, the tension between rainbow's and twilight's strategies felt very real as well. They did a fine job of handling the relationships in a realistic way, and to see their confidence and ability afterwards warmed my heart. Strong episode. I love that they can make a story about something silly like pegasus flight training, but it brings back lots of memories in my own life.

Does anypony wear sunglasses while driving?
weesh replied to LED Dasher's topic in General Discussion
Indeed. though I read that as "99% of the time when its daytime" I had skin cancer when i was 18, so melanoma of the eye is a serious concern for me. I own four pairs of sunglasses that are at home, work, car, and a bonus pair in case one gets moved. I never want to be without. -
science Your thoughts on transhumanism. Good or evil?
weesh replied to SunsetBaconDrive's topic in General Discussion
I think the exact same modification to a body can be both for good and bad purposes. For instance, If your goal is to advance the science to the point that good and effective mods can be applied to all people who need them at an affordable cost, than your motives are excellent. But if you are creating mods that can only benefit the billionaires of the world, and will further their wealth and power, then you are better off solving other problems. obviously, real life will fall somewhere between these two extremes. -

I am in agreement with this at the theoretical level. however, I've heard to many anecdotes about this argument being used as a cover for a community which has members for which it absolutely is sexual. For instance, if a bunch of adults want to be naked around each other, they are old enough to make that choice. But once kids are born of the members, they often aren't given a choice, or are pressured to remove their clothes. So while I appreciate the sentiment, it's hard for me to buy it in actuality. A theoretical community where kids wore clothes until they were old enough to make their own decision, and were never pressured to be nudists seems better. Also, if the separation between nudity and sexuality is already present in a culture, it probably does not make sense to fight that.

Does anyone else think Season 6 has been a dud so far?
weesh replied to heavens-champion's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
people seem to be answering two very different but related questions: 1) is this the worst season? 2) has this season been worthless? Logically, this could be the worst season, and still be worthwhile/acceptable/whatever. There are some absolute gems from my perspective, including the premier, gauntlet of fire, flutter brother, spice up your life, and the times they are a changeling. It clearly isn't a complete waste of a season. But more specifically, by average quality, and by best episodes, this season was better than seasons 3 and 4, and could spike over season 5 depending on the last three episodes. (for the sake of comparison, I pretended a theoretical season 3 part 2 was as good as the first half) Granted, I like slice of life more than high adventure, and appreciate Starlight's arc, so if neither of those apply to you, I could imagine you not being thrilled with this season. -
a silly but very relatable fear.

Do people hold too high of a standard for MLP?
weesh replied to Limestone-Pie's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I think any level of standard/expectation for media you consume is fine, up to any including standards so high that there are only 1-2 series that you are interested in seeing in a particular season. However, if your standards get higher, or you feel MLP has dipped below the level you are happy with, the correct course of action is probably to leave before you get frustrated/angry/pessimistic/etc. I want the people around me to be happy. And I don't achieve that by complaining about things that i could just abandon and replace. my life is too busy to contain something that I don't care about. Now, if MLP transcends into a hatedom for you, go find some like minded people and enjoy tearing the series apart. I'm 100% behind you, so long as you aren't actively bringing down regular fans that are on a fandom website. HOWEVER: If you have high standards that you believe MLP generally exceeds, your disappointment over a failing is justified, and your standards are not to high just because you give voice to those standards.- 48 replies

no. any episode that brings AJ's parents into it will over-shadow everything else that happens. For the story they were trying to tell, bringing the parents in would have been a huge distraction. now, if this had been a story centered around the parents, and designed to use that material, and not really at all about AJ lying, it could have been effective, and I wouldn't mind seeing what the writers could do with that. I am also agreed with you that AJ accidentally killing her parents would be a terrible idea on how to handle that episode.

I've always assumed that she was the main driver of season 6, and that the material with her will go WAY down after season 6. however, I like her, and would be fine if we got more of her. that said, the best solution to the character would be for her to finish a learning arc with twilight, and then to be sent out on her own, just like twilight was sent out from Celestia. it would bring finality, and closure to the arc, and still leave open the possibility for seeing her in the future, without the high level of attention that current starlight demands. I feel that predictions could be radically altered after the finale, since I'm expecting to see her play a major role in it to close out the season.

I'd argue that this is a less compelling description, while also swinging it from misleading to deceptive. AJ didn't really have the power to lose the business as granny was the one in charge. The business was not that fragile. Sure, it doesn't give anything away, but it loses a lot of the excitement of the original description.
