In other news, I learned how to play a Slayer riff. I feel so proud of myself.

Tell me which one. Then I'll tell you how proud of yourself you should be.

...J/K. But seriously, which one? The one I have the most fun playing is Angel of Death, but my picking arm outright drops dead when I'm finally through with the song. Fucking tremolo picking.

Speaking of shit that kills your picking arm:

Moog, this metalcore enough for you?

Aside from shit production, these guys have been growing on me. They're going in the right direction, at least.

And I see all of this thrash getting so much praise, but never enough Lich, Three Inches of Blood, or Sodom god damnit.

They're alright, not too bad, heard better, heard worse.

And since we've now shifted over to Thrash, I might as well leave the only Thrash band that I have a huge liking for

Postmortem. I fucking suck at tremolo, though I've been getting better at it.

holy shit guys why is the metal thread endless reposts now It's never "here's a new band to discuss" it's <stupid bickering="" about="" a7x="" or="" some="" other="" band="" rd92="" likes="" followed="" by="" moog="" posting="" how="" much="" he="" loves="" converge="" metalcore="" and="" then="" dawn="" flavor="" of="" the="" month="" that="" everyone's="" already="" heard=""> with occasional input from other people. I swear, "I'll just leave this here" is just an excuse to make a bad post music related.

I literally showed you bongzilla a couple days ago this is the exact kind of stuff I'm talking about :V

Something new to discuss, how about Ayreon. So many guest musicians, your head will seriously explode. From Devin Townsend, to James LaBrie, to Hansi Kursch.

I dunno features always seem weird in metal. I like them in hip-hop, but I feel like in bands each member has something unique to the band and bringing a guy for one song just disrupts everything.

I HAD TO FALL TO LOSE IT ALL BUT IN THE END IT DOESN'T EVEN MATTER /WRISTS

It tends to go by album, Ayreon is a so-called rock opera. Each album is different, and the same singer will appear on multiple songs on the same album.

Ugh I keep trying to get more into Wrath by Lamb of God but I just really like Ashes of the Wake a lot better. I find Wrath to be a bit boring actually :/

This is probably my favorite song though:

Amen brutha, preach.

Fenriz also has a 3 song trad/doom E.P. he put out as a split with Nattefrost (for some strange reason). It's pretty chillin.

Somebody other than me posting Ayreon?! ohmy.png

And thanks for notifying me, Scael. I'd hate to miss any Ayreon posting :)

Anyway, I'm sure all who care have seen this:

(I may have posted it in here before, actually tongue.png)

I love that room. All the keyboards and guitars and amps everywhere and random candelabras and shit. And I love how he changes his clothes depending on what instrument/style he's playing. It never really hit me until I saw that room, how awesome it is that he does all the music himself (except drums), and then just gets guest singers. And the music he was playing sounded pretty awesome, so I think we can expect another fantastic Ayreon album.

Can not fucking wait. SO excited biggrin.png

Also, wooooooot

I got pulled into Ayreon in 2008 when Hansi made guest appearances on 01011001. I started listening to them for that, and I really liked the rest of the music. Into the Electric Castle is probably my 2nd favorite album by Ayreon.

Gotta git dat endurance mang. But yeah, that sounds like it'd be pretty painful.

I mean, I'm an ultra-shitty excuse for a guitarist and I get tired just by playing Gojira - Backbone.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mi-w6mGn7U0

It's got triplets too, which are honestly the worse than the tremolo riffs themselves, since you're starting and stopping again. Also, the triplets are played across two strings. Only one break in the whole song, and it just has to be near the end.

But you're a bassist right? So I'd guess it's much harder with them thicker strings.

I play guitar as well, it's just that I've chosen to make bass my main role in my band. But it's actually kind of alarming how often I'll pick up my guitar as opposed to my bass. It's like I'm becoming a fairly competent rhythm guitarist, but my bass chops are slipping away as a result. Totally not cool...but dammit if guitar isn't more fun to play. wacko.png

There used to be a time when I could play through (most of) this song on bass without much problem:

Tried it recently, though, and...my God, are my skills slipping. blush.png  Need to spend MOAR time on the 6-string and less on the 7-string...

How about some good ol' Vader? I love that intro:

And some good (not so ol') Machine Head:

I play guitar too. I'm not much of a shredder, to be honest I can't play any decent solo (perhaps because I'm too lazy to sit down and learn something properly, lol). At the moment I'm trying to learn this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwTQBYFwwO0 It's not too difficult, I'm probably gonna nail it in a couple of days.

I can't shred either. Speed picking is some hard shit to learn. And I've tried doing "Kerry King style" solos and they sound really dumb lol.

French black metal.

Don't tell me what to do.

Joking aside, there has been a lot of similar content lately.  It happens, but we all seem to have pretty preset grooves we all fall back on.

Either way.  Have some more of that Deafheaven I posted a few days ago.  Preorders are still up if anyone's interested.
