Aww, I don't want to pick just one. :<

My favourite gaming genres are 3D platformers, sandbox and art gallery. 3D platfomers bring fun memories while both sandbox and art gallery games can expand on many creative ideas, since I'm a rather creative person... :P

Moba (Only if they are complex, so Dota 2 is supperior to all the ones I know of in the genre.)

Story based games. (I dunno where to put them, like Home, Lone survivor and all those things.)

(Really cool signature)

Well, I just made a new "Fighting Game" option. Or you could do Sandbox since in GTA you can do anything you want.

RPG's are really good, amazing, Fallout 3 is one of the best games i've played.

But I prefer horror games and stuff actually, and most of the ones I play are FPS. I don't know if Amnesia and them ones count as FPS as you don't shoot people or anything, or am I being a bit thick there?

We already have at least one other topic about favorite genres but whatever.

My favorites are definitely RPGs, Fighting and Hack'n'Slash.

Ironically, I don't like RPGs for the roleplaying. Almost every game in existence has you playing a role whether you're the one who creates it or they give you a role to play so that's not something unique to RPGs. The thing I love about RPGs is the micromanagement of skills and stats. Sure, you get that in other games, but RPGs have the smallest details under management usually. I also prefer Japanese-made RPGs more since they have so much more style than any Western-made RPG I've ever played, if a little too much tropeyness.

I love Fighting games that are both highly technical and full of flash. I'm not particularly fond of games like Virtua Fighter which don't have much flash and are more about the technicality. Games like BlazBlue are my favorite Fighting games due to their very good balance of the two.

I like Hack'n'Slash for much of the same reasons I like Fighting games and they have a wider range of movement as well. I swear, if they made a Hack'n'Slash or Platformer with Fighting game mechanics it would be the best game ever. This is why I wanna try games like Bloodrayne: Betrayal, Dust: An Elysian Tale and Muramasa: The Demon Blade. They look to be something like what I'm looking for, though probably more Hack'n'Slash than Fighting.

Runner-up genres are easily Action-Adventure like Darksiders and Collect-A-Thons like Banjo Tooie.

Yep, super ancient. I'm sure it will get buried again soon enough (after I'm done necro'n, of course).

My favorites would be:

RPG

Fighting

... and that's it. Yep, those are the top of the top of my list. Even if I am currently obsessed with an mmo  :derp:

p.s. It's too bad the poll seems to have vanished from the original thread. I don't think the OP will be around anytime soon to remake it.

Action-RPGs. Combining the best of both worlds, you get the freedom to explore and immerse yourself into your character, and still feel the rush of a dynamic world around you. Games like Fallout 3/ New Vegas, Elder scrolls V: Skyrim, etc.

Well, there is not one genre that is greater than another. They all have potential for the greatest games of all times: platformers, FPS, RPG, action-adventure, sandbox, what have you!

For me personally, there is one genre that stands out above the rest when it comes to multiple factors: Western RPGs.

For me when it comes to important factors like storytelling, characters, and gameplay, it just seems to me that this genre has the best quality out there. For me, games like Skyrim, Dragon Age: Origins, The Witcher 2, Kingdoms of Amalur, Dragon's Dogma, and even some that I have started but not finished like Divinity II feel like this.

The action-adventure genre comes closest, IMO.

I would rate my favorite games as Portal or Portal 2, however I don't think first person puzzle games would be my favorite simply because I can't see any other games in that genre living up to the Portal franchise. I would say my favorite would have to be RPG then, especially open-world post apocalyptic or horror.

I have an odd knack for indie games such as Soundodger+, Geometry Dash, Super Hexagon, etc.

Other than that I'm a pretty big fan of games like World of Warcraft and League/Dota.

Where is the option for Turn-Based strategy in this poll?  Civilization V, Alpha Centauri, Master of Magic, Master of Orion 2, Heroes of Might and Magic, X-Com; do these games not merit their own category?  They are only some of the best games of all time.
