Badges have arrived!

Hello, everypony! Nico here, to announce the release of MLP Forum's official 'Rank Badges'! If you'll take notice of the left side of posts, there are now these colorful little pictures underneath everypony's avatar displaying your current 'rank' on the forums!

 

Ranging from Blank Flank medals to Ponies themselves, there are many badges for you to discover with your time here on MLP Forums, and we hope that it'll be exciting for everyone to see their rank slowly evolve over time. I won't be listing all of the ranks here on the thread, as I feel it's just another great sense of discovery to figure out the hierarchy of them on your own.

 

As for these badges being created, the actual badge titles were thought up by Feld0, with it being my duty to design each of them. Special thanks to Grendo, as well, for having contributed a particular badge based on one of Fluttershy's woodland friends, the Squirrel.

 

I personally hope that you enjoy this new addition to the forums, and look forward to your feedback!

Badges aren't technically 'important', so I won't be putting together a chart on when you get them and what they all are, because I feel that it kind of defeats part of their purpose if you know what all of them are and when you'll get them just from a list.

I'm a unicorn! Yes! In all honesty, I really love this update. Nice to see your continuing to do amazing artistic stuff on the forums! I remember when you were starting on the winter theme, and teaching me how to make signatures and use Photoshop. You're one of the nicest people I've ever met and one of the prime examples I used to introduce my dad on the subject of why I joined the brony community. Really. Thanks for all you've done.

Hmm, then by personnal analysis, I'll either have to try rocketing up my postcount when I reach 700, or just make a new account.

 

Now then, these badges are pretty neat. I guess I'll keep a eye on mine for the rare times I post somewhere it's affected.

 

Speaking of effect, I'm curious, do the badges also get affected by the posts in cloudsdale colloseum and similar areas?

 

Aand, for the people that really want to know when they get a badge upgrade, why don't you guys just look at all the other users badges and post counts?

To answer a few questions you guys are asking:

 

We will not publish the list of badges or their associated post counts. The badges are only a fun extra feature of the site that we hope you'll enjoy discovering for yourself over the next few months. You're welcome to start a topic to try and work together to figure the system out.

 

Posts in Cloudsdale Colosseum, RP World, and Welcoming Plaza do not count towards your badge rank.

 

All badges are set automatically. They play out like this:

• Blank Flanks get the Blank Flank badge, which is replaced once they reach 5 posts and become a "full" member.
• The badges of standard and donor members are set based on their post count.
• Moderators and super moderators get the Royal Guard badge.
• Admins get the Alicorn badge. I'm the only admin, so you shouldn't see too many alicorns wandering the forums.

Finally, in the interest of keeping the forums' interface clean and legible, I've removed the YouTube/deviantART/Steam links and your usergroup's name from the mini-profile that is shown beside your posts. The links on your profiles remain unaffected, and you can figure out someone's usergroup by their badge. Alternatively, hover over their username and a hovercard will appear displaying their usergroup as well as some other information.

These are some really neat badges. They're quite interesting, and well drawn as well. Although I was confused at first when I saw I was a bird.

Normally I'd object to having a hierarchy system such as badges, if they were so freaking amazing looking!

 

Shame I won't get to go through the earlier badges myself, I guess being new has its perks

 

Haven't seen anyone with my rank yet which makes me happy (ranks don't matter too much if we see everypony with the same rank).
