Brony criticizes Dave Polsky at a Con

Well, people are going to complain. It is just a natural phenominon. The question did come off as rather crass, but poksly did a great job in dealing with it.

I just hope people realize that this occurs regularly in all fandoms, and that we don't need to make anouther derpygate outa it.

The problem here is not that the guy voiced his "problem" with the episode, but the way he did it. It's different talking to people who have nothing to do with the subject in an internet forum than talking to the writer of an episode in person.

I sure would like to hear Meghan McCarthy talking about Celestia's plan in the final episode though.

It would be interesting. As for that last part, I'm pretty sure Celestia was out of plans so she did it out of desperation

This actually isn't as bad as I was expecting it to be, but you should know no one's really going to take you seriously if you talk like this to anyone about the show, let alone a show staffer.

Really, this is a time to talk constructively, about the creative process of the show, recent events, and the future of the show. You can't make this into a forum to air your relatively minor personal grievances about an episode.

And really, cut Polsky some slack, please? His writing has definitely been improving throughout Season 4. If there's a writer you really should be grilling, it should be

Scott Sonneborn.  :comeatus:

I agree on this. Also Scott's episodes so far were mediocre at best. I would certainly not yell at him for writing in my opinion one bad episode and one mediocre episode

Well EQD has the vid posted. I'm not quite sure about posting the vid, but I did liked Dave Polsky's response as it was evident the critic had put him in a spot he can't really answer well immediatly, so he made a good point of how he wouldn't be able to change his mind if he's convinced the episode is bad with one question, so he chose to not answer it.

Also, the critic really should've been more tactful with his words as he really does come across as a bit crass to my liking to a DHX staff writer.

As for what I thought about the episode, I thought it was good, may not be as good as Polsky's 'Rarity takes Manehattan' or 'For Whom the Belle Toil's' episodes, but I thought it was a good episode.

I wouldn't even call him a critic – (good) critics write reviews and try to say how it could be improved from an objective standpoint.  He was just whining.

Eh, regardless if his point was nitpicking (having a hard time understanding him, but it had something to do with CC's hanging out with Diamond Tiara because of Twilight?), he offered a point he thought made the episode bad for him, even if he's making a big deal out something that wasn't even really bad.

Oh my lord....rubs temples in aggravation... I know some people in our fandom have a hard time understanding what is socially acceptable behavior but what the flipping hay.

Even if you have a problem with a specific episode you do not attack one of the writers of your favorite show in front of everyone... or at all for that matter. I believe Stan Lee said something to the effect of "we deliver good stories enough where you owe us to buy a bad comic every now and then." same applies here.

I agree with you. But I think that what you did is part of the problem. A good enough answer to that would have been that Celestia is just dumb and did expect Twilight to hide her powers... Forever. Or that Celestia actually expected Twilight to open the chest and that whatever was inside would beat Tirek. Or that Twilight would defeat Tirek. Or that Celestia expected Tirek to never realize there was another princess and Discord wouldn't tell him. The way it came out it seemed like it was just an excuse to have Twilight fight Tirek in an ''awesome" magic fight.

Wow... just... wow.

I mean, seriously.  If you are such a fan to go to BUCK or any other event in the like, yet, at the same time, you have such an unnecessary, childish hatred of certain parts of the show... I'm sorry, but that guy needs to go to the doctor and get prescribed some "stop being a whiny ass negative Nancy" pills.

I myself have never gone to any kind of MLP convention.  If I did, I would leave if something like this happened whilst I was there.  Not that I have anything at all against the fandom, or the show in general... it's just that, specifically, those people who act 1/4 of their age, and ask sore questions for the rise, are nothing better than a mere troll in the comments of a YouTube video.

Personally, I have no problem with anyone who dislikes something with the show, as long as they speak their mind in a civilized, adult manner, and don't bash it like a child --- and that is even though I pretty much don't have any negative thoughts toward anything in the show; I still don't mind those that do, if they can be down to earth and mature when they represent why they don't like something.

Sorry for being blunt; guess that's why I'm so similar to Applejack, and her element of Honesty.

Polsky is actually one of my favorite writers on staff.

If I were there and had the opportunity to respond to this guy, I would've also pointed out how he wrote "Rarity Takes Manehattan" and "For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils" which are both considered to be among the best of the season. This fellow was intent on bashing the fellow, who does seem to have some inconsistencies as a writer. He is not a bad writer (read: He's not Corey Powell) and while he's not perfect, he's pretty gr8. This fellow was nitpicking and I can perceive him as going up to the podium assuming he'd look intelligent, but in the end, I think he needed to learn that forcefulness only makes you look worse instead of better, especially when people film this stuff and put it all over ze interwebz.

This is one of the major reasons I have my doubts about attending NMND when it comes to Addison :derp: Fear that I'll lose it and do something like this to the writer person who wrote the NMR :please:

I'll be honest in saying that "Twilight Time" was one of the worst episodes of the series; that being my own opinion as it was just hard to watch it without squirming. Everything just felt so awkward; which is weird as the CMC were among the most developed characters in season 4.

Saying that, while I don't mind that questioner having some criticisms, he really could've worded them MUCH better and much calmer. Really, I don't a dedicated staffer and writer of the show really deserved that attitude, and I appreciate the crowd applauding Polsky's answer.

My hats off to Polsky; he handled that brilliantly!

He is talking about the episode like it is worst thing ever, it is not the greatest episode ever but it wasn't that bad. With that said though Polsky handled it fairly well. The questioner could have worded things way better than he did, it just sounded like "this episode sucks because it sucks" which isn't constructive criticism but mere whining.
