Do Pinkie's friends respect her?

Fractured

Recommended Posts

It's a big problem that I saw pop up most often in season 1. I'm not insinuating that they don't all love her, but there seems to be a lack of respect for Pinkie and her personal opinions that I find concerning. Among other things:
The entire fiasco with the parasprites.
Twilight treating her as a test subject and an animal in Feeling Pinkie Keen
Rarity spits in her face during Party of one
Twilight again during Baby Cakes

I'm sure I can find more, but I think I have enough. Is it an issue of Pinkie's friends having little or no respect for her, or is there something I missed?

Pinkie Pie was intended to be used for a lot of the gags.

Twilight was testing Pinkie Pie because Pinkie has this twitching ability, and she didn't understand it.

Rarity spit in Pinkie's face because Pinkie told her about how Gummy likes that punch, and she saw Gummy in the drink. (Would you drink something an alligator was sitting in?)

I don't remember Baby Cakes. It wasn't really an episode I liked.

I think the rest of the Mane Six see Pinkie Pie as immature, but she prove to be a genius. I think Twilight called Pinkie Pie a genius twice. Pinkie may not make sense, but she is very intelligent. I'm not sure if the other Mane Six actually respect her, though.

They mostly take her very much for granted.  However she has managed to gain some inroads over the years.

AJ never took her for granted and now she is a part of the family.

Rainbow Dash came around some in season 1 and even more so in season 3.  By the time of Too Many Pinkie Pies, she won her over.

Twilight mostly finds Pinkie unfathomable but I don't think she really respects Pinkie.

Fluttershy and Rarity have quite a ways to go.

Rarity spits in her face during Party of one

I don't think this was out of disrespect as much as is was out of shock...who knows where gummy has been

And at times, no, they don't.

I know they've displayed this same problem with Rarity before (RD and Pinkie in "Suited for Success?" Kind of insensitive. Kind of. Not like you ruined her whole lifeblood and passion or anything, ya twits.) and Fluttershy, and Applejack, and...yeahh. They don't always treat each other with respect. They do care about each other and would probably take a bullet for each other, but one of the best things about this show is that it isn't all tea parties and happiness all the time :D There's conflict, and some of what you said, barring the Rarity thing, sounded like good 'ol fashioned conflict to me :D

The entire fiasco with the parasprites.

Plot. :maud:

Twilight treating her as a test subject and an animal in Feeling Pinkie Keen

Pinkie went along with it,Twilight was curious and Pinkie was courteous enough to allow for some harmless experimentation.  :maud:

Rarity spits in her face during Party of one

Blatant gag-moment. Not to mention it was juice that had been in Rarity's mouth, for all i know it came out cleaner than it went it -- i wouldn't of personally have cared and Pinkie din't seem to give two shits either.  :maud:

Twilight again during Baby Cakes

Twilight was just trying to lend some help if i recall and Pinkie wanted to do things her own way. :maud:

Yes. Pinkie's friends do respect her,im not sure how they can be the Elements of Harmony if they are disrespecting each other constantly. :maud:

Of course they respect her, she has another way of thinking that most of the people don't understand, and sometimes she can be annoying and it is hard to take her seriously, so it is understandable that sometimes they're just mad at her, but in the end they are friends and move on, no friendship is perfect, sometimes they have conflicts, but their friendship remains.

Most of the people considered as geniuses are kinda "immature", those people have the ability to "think outside the box", so they see the world in a different way

Most likely they do respect her but most of the time, she doesn't make much sense.

  • With the parasprites, Pinkie's constant going on over musical instruments could have been seen as weird or pointless, if Pinkie would have plainly said what her plan was, her friends probably would have listened more,
  • Twilight didn't understand Pinkie Sense, and as a scientist, the first thing she did was test it out in a controlled environment such as a lab.
  • Who knows where Gummy has been? Rarity even started drinking again afterwards to not cause a scene or to possibly not hurt Pinkie's feelings.
  • Pinkie has never taken care of a baby before, let alone two, so Twilight most likely assumed that she would have needed help. All she saw was Pinkie having fun with the babies, not having to take care of them.

Her friends respect her plenty and don't see her as stupid, they just find some of the things she does to be odd, or to her just 'being Pinkie Pie'.

This doesn't really have a thing to do with their friendship, it's mostly about how much respect they give her. They don't seem to value her opinions all that highly, and they treat her like a child at times. Filli Vanilli is a primary example; instead of having a conversation with her explaining what she did wrong or asking Pinkie why she said what she did, Rarity smacks her with a rolled up newspaper and moves on. It's the kind of thing that wouldn't really pass if it was done to any of the other Mane Six.

I made a thread similar to this a long while ago.

http://mlpforums.com/topic/94186-am-i-the-only-one-that-feels-the-mane-6-sort-of-neglect-pinkie-pie/

I only bring this up because there are some points in it you might find interesting for this discussion.

But yes, the Mane 6 and the amount of respect they give Pinkie, and how seriously they don't take her, is something I've pondered time and again. They do respect her, but I honestly don't feel they respect her as much as she deserves.

It's hard though with Hasbro's latest writing of her. Has anyone else noticed she screams like half of her lines now?

A thing to note is that many of the episodes the OP mentioned were in season one.  I think that when they first met her, they were more like "We love you, but you're ummm a bit crazy."

Now they're like, "We don't get you all the time, but we love you anyway!"

Neither position has 100% the respect Pinkie deserves, but the second is as much as most people/ponies get anyway.

Twily really listened to Pinkie in Trade Ya.

Actually there are a lot of later episodes with Twily following Pinkie somewhat like AJ might follow Granny Smith.   [she may be crazy with this but why not] (cheering for RD, accepting her statement that she was OK with Wierd Cheese taking over the Birthaversary, etc.,)

Rainbow Dash also developed from running away from the hyper antics to inviting her to swim.

Fluttershy went from nearly "how dare you patronize me, I'm a year older!"  to Filli Vanilli level effect from Pinkie.

So, the respect for Pinkie seems to be evolving.

I'm sure they respect Pinkie. Yes she isn't very serious but that's her character and I like her the way she is.

I agree with this post.   Personally, I believe Pinkie Pie respects her friends to an extent.

They might find her a bit of a ditz at times, but they all know that they can always count on the pink cannonball when they need her. The respect Pinkie earned from her friends is much deeper and intrinsic than superficial gestures.

Didn't she said that, when Pinkie disrespected her before?

Pretty close to that it wasn't so strong and wasn't so directed, but that's not a statement of "I really value your opinion."

Whereas I don't think Fluttershy would have been as crushed if it were from somepony she didn't respect.  [What if it had happened just after Bridle Gossip?  I don't think Flutters would have been that crushed, more like ok you're being crazy ridiculous without any rhyme or reason.]

Well. to express equality amongst the cast, yes, i'd say they respect her.

It's not so much the casts ideas as what you observe. IIt's an issue when the writers idea's get in the way of what you see in the show,, and i'm not perfectly set on that idea.

Anyways... hehehhh...

If Pinkie's friends didn't respect her, I'm pretty sure Pinkie would show it.

Besides... Think about the Maud episode.  In the end, what was it they said to Maud?

Oh yah - that what they all had in common was...

That they all loved Pinkie Pie!!!

Eeyup.

I think the better question is, does Pinkie Pie respect her friends?

Breaking into your friends house and stalking them really begs the question.

Pinkie Pie's idea of what is normal is not ours, nor the Mane 5's, but they understand that she's trying her best.

Additionally breaking into ponies' houses seems to be no big deal.

See Rarity stealing dress episodes [1 Suited for Success, 2 Simple Ways, 3 Maybe that's it?]  Or when her parents break into her Kitchen in Sisterhooves.

Heck see the pilot, and Ticket master for Twily!

  • 10 months later...

Pinkie's friends don't always take her seriously, like in the song "Everybody Loves a Clown" by Gary Lewis

Yes, I'm a clown

But, I don't want to be.

Why can't you see

the other side of me?  I'd put in a link but either myself or my computer seems to lack the ability.

I know from personal experience that if you joke around MOST of the time, folks assume you are kidding ALL the time.  A better question would be "Why didn't Celestia take Twilight's warning seriously in Canterlot Wedding?"
