technology Issue with Certain Buttons [Chromebook Problem]

Recommended Posts

I have been having an issue lately, not just with the site, but everywhere. I just don't know what to do...

You see certain buttons don't work for me. Some of those button on this site include the font, the size, the color, the increase indent button, the smiley button, the bold, italic, underline, and strikethrough buttons, just to name a few.

I honestly just have no clue what to do at this point, 'cause it has been going on for days now.

If I'm not being specific enough, please don't hesitate to ask me any and all question you feel are necessary to help me.

EDIT: I will add new things as I think of them.

I also have issues with clicking on links in general. No matter if it is MLPForums or Facebook, links just don't work for me.

What browser are you using? Have you tried using a different browser?
If you haven't tried using  different browser, try it, and see if it helps. If it does, then tell me what browser is having the issues. If that doesn't help, try downloading CCleaner and clearing your history, cookies... and everything else really. If that doesn't help, try updating Adobe Flash Player, and Java, as they both are used on a lot of different sites and such.

In addition to the possibility of using a different browser, can you clarify what you mean? You're saying you're having an issue, not really with the site as a sole item, but many places as well?

I use google chrome on a chromebook, so I cannot download any other browsers.

Yes, for certain things like what I mentioned above, they don't work. Sometimes I can get past it by right-clicking, like clicking on a picture on a Tumblr post, but other times I just can't do anything!

DJ Shy, what model chromebook are you using if you don't mind my asking? Also, can you estimate the length of time this has been occurring? When was the last browser update pushed to you chromebook?

Sorry if it isn't much help, but all I know is that it is an Acer Chromebook.

Also, I think it has been happening for about 2 weeks now. I think the last update was a month ago, but I have no way of knowing for sure.

I also have a Chromebook and have noticed that there are a few setting that you could check, first got to settings which is on the right of your screen by your time, click on it and then click "settings" which should open up a settings panel in Chrome, go down to where it says Device and click touchpad settings, make sure that the following Touchpad settings are enabled.

Enable Tap-to-click (Check)

Traditional scrolling (Check)

Australian scrolling (Unchecked)

If everything there seems to check out you could also try resetting your browser settings, to do so scroll down to the bottom of the setting page and click on the blue "Show advanced setting..."  button, from there once again scroll down to the very bottom and you should see an option that says "Reset browser settings" Click it and it should prompt you to reset, click "reset".

I am not sure if this has anything to do with your issue or not but it is well worth a shot, also be aware that resetting browser settings also clears all your browser data, so you will have to re log into any sites that you were previously logged into.

I'm afraid I can't do that. I donno if it is the same for you, but it said I'd have to get rid of all my bookmarks, undo all my extensions, etc. I just can't get myself to undo all my hard work.

Is there anything else it could be?

Yea, that could be a bit of a downer, here is something else you could try, remember how I told you to make sure all your touchpad setting were set correctly, try going back to Settings>Touchpad settings, and then uncheck the following, and click "ok".

Enable tap-to-click (uncheck)

Traditional scrolling (Check)

Australian Scrolling (uncheck)

now if you do that you won't be able to just tap your touchpad, you will have to actually click your touchpad in order for it to register.

Also I have been researching the issue a bit further and have noticed that a lot of chromebook users have been having some of the same issues as you describe, so I guess try the above and tell me if there is any change in your issues. :)

I tried unchecking it, and now my screen lags my typing and my issue still isn't fixed.

Also, the difference between them and me is that my mousepad is working fine. It is javascript that is being a pain.

Just a hunch, but, have you clicked the button in the upper left corner called "BBCode Mode"?

That is one of the buttons that don't work for me.

Wait, just for the sake of clarification, you are saying that your actual touchpad on your chromebook is working fine, it's your mouse you are having issues with?

I don't use a mouse. I use the touchpad. And I could be wrong, but I don't think it is the pad.

, considering the issue no longer appears to be related to MLP Forums or Poniverse I'm going to go ahead and move it to Everfree Forest. has been extremely helpful in trying to troubleshoot the Chromebook issue you are having, and he is free to continue to help you there with out either of you waiting on approval from staff to make your posts visible.

That said, at this point I personally recommend that you contact the Google Chromebook Help Center or Forum for specialized assistance to your issue.

Good luck!

Hm, so we have at the very least established that it more than likely has something to do with Javascrip, but to be honest I am astounded by the lake of useful information on the web about the issue and think that it probably would be best if you made a topic describing your issue in the "Chromebook Central Help Forum" that Jeric linked, those guys will more than likely be much more knowledgeable then myself about the issue, and it will more than likely save you some time as well. :)

In case anyone is still reading, the problem was fixed.

As it turns out, it was two of my extensions that were causing the problem with javascript.

Edit: it was Adblock Plus

maybe it was all three extensions.

Awesome, good for you, I honestly did not expect it to be an issue with any of you extensions, but in any case cheers! :yay:

That's awesome . I appreciate you letting us know it was all handled. And again thanks for your assistance earlier. Chromebooks are not something I am as familiar with.
