I thought he might have done, but a few seconds isn't much proof really. Also, I have a hard time doing songs on Guitar hero on expert and as it is, playing a guitar is a lot more different and complicated. Personally my instrument of choice is the violin; I would love to be able to play one of those.

That short was spectacular! The animation was among the best I've seen for the show, the song's message was powerful, and the song itself was just all around fantastic.

 

Sunset is such a great character, with so much character development. This almost brought a tear to my eye to see her like this, I just loved it.

Why has Sunny disappeared for.........whatever the heck that is suppose to be. Also, that video is awesome and I believe I would be acting different to all the others and speak to her, because it is clear she has changed.

I do like the new turqouise-centered outfit, the short, skinny boots especially are a nice break from the massive, clunky knee-high boots almost every female in EQ wears, but I think I'll always prefer the old black-and-fuchsia fiery look she had going on before. Maybe that's because I'm more used to it, but it's probably also because that's what was designed for her older appearance and personality.

 

Also, the jacket could be just a touch longer; about as long as it was when she threw it into the air after taking it off, with the length of the body about equal to the length of the sleeves. (And yes, the jacket did magically get longer just for that one clip, it's not too obvious but if you've got an eye for detail...)

A leather jacket that short seems like it'd be a struggle to get into and out of without pulling any stitching, and you definitely couldn't whip it off in a single stroke like she did, but I digress since I'm criticizing the inherent artistic license with physics that it has because it's a cartoon.

Of course, that's ignoring the fact she's paired a leather jacket with a somewhat frilly blouse and what I can only assume are pantyhose, yoga pants, or tights of some description, which is certainly a...daring statement, though she does manage to make it work. Somehow.

 

...Ahem, you'll have to excuse me for a moment, darlings. My inner Rarity appears to be showing. 

 

I could get more into how her radically different and much lighter-toned outfit reflects her new beginning as a person-I mean, pony-I mean, pony-person, (Relevant: "RRRIIISE LIKE A PHOENIX!~", not that I'm implying Sunset is trans) and her desire to distance herself from her aggressive styling and the extremely negative personality and image associated with it (a desire explicitly expressed both in RR and in the new short), but I don't really think I need to, to be honest.

 

Here's a comedic, watered-down version, you'll get the gist.

Phase 1,   Power-Mad B  Shimmer, a stereotypical "that's [so-and-so], she owns the school" bully archetype all-too-common in HS dramas except this time she's secretly a magical talking pony from an alternate dimension, which sounds patently ridiculous sans-context and only slightly less ridiculous in-context.

Phase 2, reforming Shimmer to the side of good by fulfilling her values through friendship and ponies.

Phase 3, ????

Phase 4, PRO-I mean,   Reformed Shimmer.

Actually, I would like to disagree with the song My Past is Not Today somewhat... with the line 'my past does not define me'.

Our past defines each of us, to some degree or another, even if it does so by the person turn away from having such a past. We are defined by our experiences, our conversations, our friends and family, by all that is good and bad in out lives. Every detail, especially when we are allowed the chance to reflect on our past, can come into play in leading us to consider our choices later. Our past mistakes, our past desires, our past hopes and dreams all define us but perhaps by us deciding we want nothing to do with it. Thus, in that we feel Sunset Shimmer is without a doubt defined by her past and that it shapes her future.

Still a nice song, though I wish Sunset's development wouldn't have taken place 'off camera' and shown only in in one movie with the other showing who she had once been. That has always been mostly my only complain, as there is a difference between 4 seasons of character development and 2 or 1 and a half movies.
